The night holds a fire. The Perseids rise, peak Aug 12–13, up to 75 per hour in dark skies. A Moon 84% lit will wash out the faint meteors; best before Aug 13 and after Aug 15. The radiant lies in Perseus; look northeast. For photos, use a wide lens, a tripod, 30 seconds, ISO 800–1600.

At Sizewell C, a Suffolk dumper driver on a tea break found a nearly 60,000-year-old handaxe. Archaeologists call it a “blinder.” The artefact weighs 166 g, is 11 cm tall and 8 cm wide, with a cloudy cream patina and a blue hint. A prehistoric Swiss Army knife for chopping, butchering and digging.
