GB News: Home Office blasted for failing to 'get a grip' on those overstaying their UK visas: 'An island of the unknown!'
The Home Office has faced criticism for its lack of oversight on visa overstayers in Britain, with a new report revealing it does not track how many skilled worker visa holders have remained in the country beyond their permits. Human Rights Lawyer David Haigh emphasized the concerning absence of data on who is currently residing in the UK.
Haigh pointed out that the UK's immigration system is notably lax compared to other countries, which typically check travelers upon entry and exit. He warned that this could lead to the UK becoming an "island of the unknown," as the government fails to adequately monitor visa compliance. A Home Office spokesperson attributed the issue to previous government policies that eased visa controls, resulting in a significant rise in net migration.
