Times Of Israel: Scientists find new interstellar object racing through Solar System
Astronomers have confirmed the discovery of an interstellar object, designated 3I/Atlas, the largest yet detected, classified as a comet. It is speeding through the Solar System at over 60 kilometers per second and poses no threat to Earth, set to pass just inside Mars' orbit.
This marks only the third interstellar object identified, following Oumuamua in 2017 and 2I/Borisov in 2019. Scientists estimate there could be around 10,000 such objects in the Solar System, providing a unique opportunity for research into the origins of life and cosmic phenomena.
