GB News: Labour’s electric car plan falls short as millions face accessibility issues - 'Put off buying'
A study by the Electric Vehicle Association England reveals that over half of disabled motorists find public charging cables difficult to manage, with only 2.3% of the UK's 80,000 charging points meeting accessibility standards. As the charging network expands, 1.35 million disabled drivers are expected to rely on public chargers by 2035.
The research highlights significant disparities in accessibility, particularly with ultra-rapid chargers, which are heavier and more challenging for disabled users. Experts are calling for amendments to the Planning and Infrastructure Bill to enforce accessibility requirements for charging infrastructure.
