Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th president of the United States, died in 1885 after a complex upbringing and time in the White House. He graduated from West Point and became a successful Army leader. Grant played a significant role in the Civil War and was known for his strategic planning. He was elected president in 1868 and served two terms. Grant made efforts to bring the country together during the Reconstruction era and implemented important legislation, including the 15th amendment which granted voting rights to Black men. He died at the age of 63 from throat cancer and is buried in the largest mausoleum in North America.
