Forbes: Here’s Why Trump Is Being Indicted In Florida—And Why It Matters
Here’s Why Trump Is Being Indicted In Florida—And Why It Matters
Former President Donald Trump is expected to surrender to authorities Tuesday in Miami after being indicted on federal charges stemming from him retaining White House documents at Mar-A-Lago, as the DOJ decided to bring charges against Trump in Florida rather than Washington, D.C.—a decision that could speed up the legal proceedings, but also be a friendlier venue for the ex-president.

Prosecutors decided to bring Trump’s case in the Southern District of Florida because much of the conduct at issue—Trump storing documents at his Mar-A-Lago club in Palm Beach and his various dealings with keeping them and turning them over to federal authorities—happened there, according to sources cited by the Washington Post. Bringing the charges immediately in Florida could help speed up the legal process.

The Economist: Donald Trump is in his most serious legal trouble yet
Donald Trump is in his most serious legal trouble yet
Donald Trump, former US President, has been charged with mishandling classified documents after an investigation by the Department of Justice. The documents were found in various locations around his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, including a shower stall and a ballroom stage, despite Trump's lawyers claiming they were all held in a storage room. The charges outlined in the 37-count indictment, which include keeping classified documents without authorisation, carrying significant prison sentences. Trump will be arraigned in court on June 13th and is expected to plead not guilty.

The Republican Party appears to be uniting to defend Trump, who has faced multiple legal inquiries in the past, with some even vying against him for the presidential nomination in 2024. Despite the extraordinary spectacle of a former president being dragged into a federal courtroom, legal proceedings may help Trump secure the nomination, rather than hurt him. The criminal trial is expected to overshadow the first two months of the presidential primary season and may imperil his chances of recapturing the White House.

Indicted Trump Aide Walt Nauta Is a Navy Vet ‘Willing to Do Whatever’ for Former President
Former White House valet Waltine Nauta, who worked as a personal aide to Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago after the 2020 election, is facing six charges as part of a DOJ investigation of Trump's handling of classified documents. He is accused of withholding and concealing documents, among other charges. Nauta initially denied moving boxes of documents to evade a subpoena, but later claimed Trump had ordered him to do so. Trump offered a defense of Nauta, whom he described as a "great patriot," on his social media platform Truth Social.

Trump Allies Respond to Indictment, Say It Will Increase His Support Among Voters
Former President Donald Trump has been indicted on 37 felony charges related to handling of records at Mar-a-Lago. This has triggered a divided political response, with Republican allies rushing to defend him and Democrats stating that "no one is above the law". Some Republicans have suggested that the indictment is politically motivated and part of the "weaponization of federal powers" by the Department of Justice.

The Corner: Florida Is Somehow Both ‘Unsafe’ for the LGBT Community and a Popular Destination for Pride Events
Equality Florida, the NAACP Board of Directors, and the Human Rights Campaign have issued warnings against travel to Florida due to the state's hostile environment for LGBTQ+ individuals, people of color, and other marginalized groups. Despite the warnings, Florida is currently hosting Pride events with thousands of attendees who emerge unscathed in their revealing, glittery outfits, prompting LGBTQ+ Americans to both avoid the state and book flights to protest Governor DeSantis's policies.

U.S. To Spend Millions To Push Green Energy Transition In Caribbean
The US is set to spend millions to transition Caribbean countries to renewable energy and address climate change impacts, with $20 million provided through USAID to form a "green bank" and support energy efficiency. The initiative includes business development services and funding for companies under the Caribbean Climate Investment Program, and an additional $1.5 million committed to the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre. The support for renewable energy abroad reflects the Biden administration's move away from traditional energy resources like coal and fossil fuels and comes as climate-related provisions in Biden's Inflation Reduction Act could cost taxpayers over $1 trillion.

Vice President Kamala Harris announced a proposed $100 million in aid to the Bahamas, including $20 million for renewable energy transition. The initiative includes working with Congress and companies to provide funding and assistance through the Caribbean Climate Investment Program and forming a "green bank" to finance climate resilient housing, renewable energy, and other projects. In addition to supporting the transition to renewable energy, Harris also discussed efforts to crack down on gun trafficking in the Caribbean region.

The Epoch Times: Wisconsin Congressman Gallagher Chooses House Over Senate Bid in 2024
Wisconsin Congressman Gallagher Chooses House Over Senate Bid in 2024
Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis) is seeking reelection to the House and will not challenge Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) for the U.S. Senate in 2024. This leaves the GOP field in the swing state open. Several Republicans are mulling a run against Sen. Baldwin, however, none have made an official announcement. Gallagher's focus is on "help[ing] restore American strength, prevent war in the Pacific, and defend our basic freedoms from communist aggression." He is determined to counter the Chinese Communist Party's influence in the United States. Gallagher questions whether American leadership is up to the task of competing with China economically and militarily. Republicans now face the possibility of another close party primary.

Saudis Say They're Moving Ahead With Nuclear Program, With or Without US
Saudi Arabia's foreign minister confirmed their nuclear development program will proceed even without the U.S. Amidst ongoing discussions for normalization with Israel, Faisal bin Farhan stated that Saudi Arabia is developing their civilian nuclear program and would prefer to have the U.S. involved but will continue with others who bid on the project. Reports reveal that the Arab nation's agreement with the U.S. could be dependent on boosted defense sales and approval for a Saudi nuclear program. Despite U.S. efforts to mend relations with the Arab country, Saudi leaders have shown a lack of interest in aligning with U.S. policies in the region.

Australian Wine Producers Set to Tap into India’s $24 Billion Market
Australian wine producers are being encouraged to export their wine to India, which is estimated to be worth $24 billion. This follows successful talks between Australian and Indian wine sector representatives, and the signing of the Australia-India Economic Cooperation Trade Agreement, which will give Australia preferential access to India’s wine market by removing tariffs from Australian exports. The 150 percent tariff for bottles arriving in the Indian market at $15 per bottle has already fallen to 70 percent, with further phased annual reductions expected to result in a 25 percent tariff by Jan. 1, 2032. Tariffs on wine priced between $5 and $15 have already been reduced to 95 percent, with a phased annual reduction resulting in a tariff of 50 percent by Jan. 1, 2032.

South Korea’s Big Tech Companies to Attend Economic Forum in Vietnam, Expand Trade
Korean and Vietnamese companies expect to sign a memorandum of understanding and hold trade-related talks at this month's Korea-Vietnam Economic Forum in Hanoi, as well as discussing expanding bilateral economic cooperation. It is believed many of the largest South Korean electronics firms such as Samsung, LG and Hyundai have been investigating Vietnam's production and distribution facilities to reduce the impact of the US-China trade war, which has led some foreign companies to choose Vietnam as an alternative location for manufacturing. Experts warn Vietnam cannot alone replace the "world's factory" as part of the Asian supply chain, which stretches from northern Japan to north-western India, operating as an alternative supply chain amid the US-China divide.

Washington Free Beacon: Biden Let America Get Bullied by Saudis, Leaked Docs Show
Biden Let America Get Bullied by Saudis, Leaked Docs Show
Leaked documents reveal that Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman threatened "major economic consequences" for the US if they retaliated against OPEC's oil production cuts, in response to President Biden's threats of "consequences" last summer. Despite Biden's threats, he has yet to act. Since the altercation, OPEC has further cut oil production, inflating energy prices.

Observers believe the incident highlights America's diminishing influence on Saudi Arabia, as the country deepens its diplomatic and economic ties with China. Some characterize the Saudi's decision to cut oil production as aiding America's enemies abroad, despite the supposed close ties between the nations. Last summer, the average price of a gallon of gas in the US was around four dollars, about a dollar more than during Trump's presidency.

Investor Home Purchases Fell 49 Percent in One Year
Real estate investors bought 49 percent fewer homes in 2023 compared to the previous year, with overall home purchases down 41 percent. Rising interest rates and high housing costs were factors in the decline, although investors still bought one out of every seven homes sold in March. Average home prices remained at $428,000. While investors continue to buy, they're taking up a bigger share of the market, leaving fewer affordable starter homes available for first-time buyers.

Egypt Renovates and Rededicates Mosque to Notorious Religious Persecutor and Mass Slaver
Egypt and Kazakhstan spent over $6 million restoring the Sultan al-Zahir Baibars Mosque, and it was reopened in a ceremony attended by dignitaries, including the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar. Baibars, a slave-soldier who became a sultan, was a Muslim radical who massacred Coptic Christians, including burning churches and forcing conversion or execution, and also massacred many Crusaders. The reopening of the mosque recognizes it as a cultural heritage site, but using Western standards to evaluate the event would make it a scandalous one on an international scale.

The Epoch Times: Sea Cucumber Delicacy May Deter Diabetes
Sea Cucumber Delicacy May Deter Diabetes
Sea cucumbers, a popular Asian delicacy, can help prevent diabetes by suppressing the Advanced Glycation End product (AGE), according to a study by the University of South Australia. AGE is a compound created by combing high levels of sugar with fat or protein in the bloodstream, and increases the risk of diabetic complications, inflammation, oxidant stress and cancer. This is the first time a commercially available therapy against AGE has been found. The study indicates sea cucumbers could be developed into a functional food product to help with diabetes and its complications.

Honey is surprisingly helpful for diabetics according to researchers from the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Romania, who found that compared to dextrose or sucrose, honey causes lower levels of elevated blood sugar. Raw, unpasteurised honey is considered best for consumption as pasteurised honey’s potential benefits are cooked away, and it is "akin to pure sugar." Other foods which protect cells from the damage of AGEs, beyond sea cucumber, are those high in Vitamin C (such as citrus, strawberries, tomatoes, cruciferous vegetables); vitamin B6 (such as beef, turkey, tuna, salmon, tofu, chickpeas); and alpha lipoic acid (meat, carrots, spinach, broccoli) and phytonutrients (blueberries, whole grain products, legumes).

Djokovic will face Casper Ruud in the final, as Rafael Nadal was absent from his favorite tournament due to a hip injury and arthroscopic surgery last week. Field & Stream: Cartridge vs. Caliber: Do You Know the Difference? Not So Fast
Cartridge vs. Caliber: Do You Know the Difference? Not So Fast
The use of caliber in place of cartridge is a mistake originated in the 1700s when the long rifle developed. Caliber refers to the internal diameter of the bore, which ranges from 0.32 to 0.54 inches. Today, bullets fired from firearms are still governed by caliber, but caliber alone doesn't provide enough information - it is not interchangeable with cartridge.
