The Epoch Times: DHS Announces New Border Patrol Chief Replacing Raul Ortiz
The Department of Homeland Security announced that Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz will be replaced by Jason Owens, the head of the Del Rio Sector, upon Ortiz’s retirement at the end of June. The retirement of acting Deputy Commissioner Benjamine “Carry” Huffman was also announced, to be succeeded by Pete Flores. DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas expressed appreciation for Ortiz and Huffman’s contributions to ensuring the safety and security of the American people. Owens, an inspiring leader, is committed to the Border Patrol’s mission, said Mayorkas. Ortiz’s departure comes shortly after the end of Title 42, which began in March 2020 and allowed Border Patrol agents to turn illegal immigrants back to Mexico immediately if deemed a health threat. Ortiz had publicly disagreed with the Biden administration’s decision to halt border wall construction and had supported agents who were falsely accused of mistreating illegal immigrants in the Del Rio Sector.

Paul Kamenar, counsel for the National Legal and Policy Center, believes the government has overreached and will have a hard time proving the charges; the mixed bag of charges alleges Trump showed classified documents to other people on two separate occasions in 2021. The 'willful retention of national defense information' charge, of which Trump faces 31 counts, carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. The indictment could solidify Trump's base and boost his 2024 prospects.
Red State: Boris Johnson Still Under Fire, Steps Down As Lawmaker
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has resigned from his post as a lawmaker after being told he will be sanctioned for misleading Parliament about "partygate" during the COVID-19 pandemic. The resignation will trigger a special election to replace Johnson as a lawmaker for a suburban London seat in the House of Commons. Johnson accused opponents of trying to drive him out and hinted that his political career might not be over yet.

The Epoch Times: Binance.US Halts Dollar Deposits, Robinhood Delists Tokens After SEC Crackdown
Binance.US is halting dollar deposits after the SEC asked a court to freeze its assets, while Robinhood is removing some crypto tokens from its platform, in response to increased SEC action against the crypto sector. Binance.US's banking partners are preparing to stop dollar withdrawal channels, posing an existential threat as it has until June 13 to withdraw funds. On Monday, the SEC sued Binance, CEO and founder Changpeng Zhao, and Binance.US's operation in 13 charges that Binance had engaged in a "web of deception," artificially inflated trading volumes, diverted customer funds, and also denied some civil charges. Meanwhile, Robinhood is removing three cryptocurrency tokens from its platform that the SEC identified as securities in its lawsuits against Binance and Coinbase.

Support for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) proposals is dropping among shareholder voters, with average approval of proposals to act against climate change falling to 23% from 36.6% in 2022 and around 50% in 2021. Support for social justice causes proposals is also down about 10% compared with last year. Analysts attribute the trend to anti-ESG efforts by red states, consumer boycotts, headline stock declines at companies, fear of anti-trust investigations and greater scrutiny on the ESG industry. This trend is raising questions on whether voting for these causes serves the interests of investors and if asset managers are violating their fiduciary duties.
The Epoch Times: Underpaid Casuals at Australia's Taronga Zoo Get $2.6M in Back Pay
Taronga and Western Plains zoos will pay back $2.6 million in underpaid wages to casual maintenance staff, including interest and superannuation. The underpayments were identified after the introduction of a new payroll system in February 2021, and had persisted for 18 months before the zoo organisation took action. Casual staff had staged a strike in protest at the system, which they said underpaid them and removed their entitlement to leave. Back payments with interest will be made in July, along with superannuation paid at 11 percent. The zoo will also correct its payroll system from July 13.
