Fox News: House Homeland Republicans to launch probe into Mayorkas’ ‘dereliction of duty’ in handling border crisis
The House Homeland Security Committee will investigate the alleged "dereliction of duty" by DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in his handling of the border crisis. The investigation has been launched due to the overwhelming migrant crisis that spiraled to historic levels under its watch.
Fox News: New York county struggles with influx of migrants from NYC exacerbating homelessness crisis
New York City is struggling to house tens of thousands of asylum seekers that have arrived following the expiration of pandemic-era asylum restrictions under Title 42. Some New York counties, such as Ontario County, are already struggling to house their homeless population and are concerned that the arrival of asylum seekers will exacerbate the crisis. Several counties, including Orleans, Genesee, and Steuben, have issued state of emergency declarations citing housing as a concern, while others have received migrants and sued the counties that have refused to accept them. Legal challenges and constitutional questions are expected to arise from the migrant crisis.

Fox News: Hostages but no demands: McCarthy says GOP rebels' concerns unclear as floor blockade forces House adjournment
Speaker Kevin McCarthy is facing backlash from the hard-line right House Freedom Caucus and their allies over changes to how the House GOP conference is run. The dissenting lawmakers have voiced their anger over the debt limit deal and accused GOP leadership of exacting revenge on one member who tried to block the bill from coming to the floor by scuttling his own firearms legislation. McCarthy blamed the conservative rebels, stating they have not outlined any specific demands, and the House would adjourn until Monday as members are struggling to get back home due to worsening air conditions caused by wildfires just across the border in Canada.
Newsbusters: ‘We Can Save Them Time’: Bozell RIPS Facebook Oversight Board, Preempting Abortion Case Reviews
The Oversight Board for Facebook and Instagram, Meta's parent company, is reviewing three censored pro-life posts to determine if Meta platforms are stifling discussions on abortion. However, the 18 documented cases of censorship illustrate that Meta is biased against the pro-life movement. Facebook claimed an Alliance Defending Freedom/SBA Pro-Life America video contained "partly false information"; a PolitiFact fact-check used to refute the claim had a conflict of interest. Meta also fact-checked posts by Nikki Haley and Ben Carson. Instagram also suspended the Students for Life chapter's account at Auburn University, censored a post by the Media Research Center (MRC), and labeled a "sensitive" photo of a 1999 in-utero baby's fingers.
The Economist: California may punt on paying reparations to the descendants of slaves
California considered reparations for descendants of slaves to atone for America's legacy of segregation. The state's study calls for policies aimed at eliminating racial disparities in health, wealth, housing, and education. The task force estimates that black Californians could be entitled to up to $1.2m per person.

Fox News: Here's our plan to sink Biden's war on household appliances
Biden's Department of Energy is proposing rules that would drive out many household appliances, including gas stoves, while justifying it with "energy savings." They're relying on a "social cost of greenhouse gas" measure based on future projections. This means higher prices, fewer options, and dirtier dishes for Americans.
State attorney generals, including Tennessee's, are fighting against this federal overreach, which restricts consumer choice and increases costs for people struggling to get by. They argue that the proposals ignore the effect on individuals and families, especially those with lower incomes. Their fight is a defense of the rule of law and Americans' simple freedom to choose their preferred appliances.
PJ Media: Gavin Newsom Wants to Protect Your Gun Rights by Destroying Them
California governor Gavin Newsom proposed a 28th Amendment to the US Constitution to implement "common sense" gun control measures nationwide "while respecting America's gun-owning tradition." The amendment would raise the minimum age to purchase a firearm to 21, mandate universal background checks, institute a waiting period for all purchases, and ban assault weapons. The actual text of the amendment is not available, and amending the Constitution requires a two-thirds majority vote in both the US House of Representatives and the Senate, followed by ratification by three-fourths of the states.

The Blaze: Maryland Democrat equates American Muslims with 'white supremacists' over their support for parental rights and opposition to LGBT propaganda
Parents protested outside the Montgomery County Public Schools Headquarters in Rockville, Maryland over their issue with the gender ideology and LGBT agitprop being pushed on their kids in elementary schools. Montgomery County Councilwoman Kristin Mink has signaled the breakdown of the alliance between Muslim leadership and the far-left over the imposition of LGBT activist literature on children. She excommunicated Muslim parents over their refusal to uphold LGBT dogma, equating them with white supremacists.

The individual, Logan Brown, is biologically female but lives as a male and became pregnant after halting doses of testosterone. This portrayal is criticized as an affront to women who bear the heavy responsibility of pregnancy, and the transgender community is accused of co-opting language and attempting to blur the lines of gender identity.

The Ukrainian spring/summer offensive is now underway. Ukrainian Armed Forces have been targeting artillery, supply, electronic warfare, troop billets, and command and control nodes. The Epoch Times: IN-DEPTH: War in South China Sea Would Devastate Global Economy, Especially China's: Experts
China has built a 400-ship navy, has increased its shipbuilding capacities and own or operate more than 90 port operations in 53 nations. It has also massively invested in oceanographic research and owns an 8,000-ship merchant fleet. The US's Chief of Naval Operations has admitted that America no longer has the maritime capacity to match China in cargo transport and in laying hulls for new ships, but maybe it may never need to since threats posed by China’s growing navy is not only an American problem, but a global problem that the world must counter.
The US's contraction in shipbuilding resulted from many economic influences, including Congress refusing to subsidize private shipyards and the post-9/11 emphasis on ground wars. This means the US is no longer a leader in maritime trade, which poses a serious concern. US allies, including South Korea and Japan, both have extensive shipyards and naval expertise, and may be key in keeping China's naval growth and dominance of commercial trade in check. Gilday stressed the importance of keeping the skilled labor force building ships and honing skills, as the only way to compete is with the support of its allies and trading partners. It is a team sport, and the US alone does not have to match China dollar-for-dollar in areas where other nations in the Maritime Commons also have vital interests and do not want to see dominance by the CCP.

The Epoch Times: Documents Reveal What Happened Inside the Discord at Canada's Drug-Price Regulator
Internal emails reveal a conflict at Canada's agency regulating patented drug prices after Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos wrote a letter suggesting the process of adopting new rules be paused to understand the changes. Several resignations and the suspension of new rules occurred as a result. The board believed the conflict threatened the survival of the agency. Flag And Cross: How Long Will The Bad Air Quality Continue In NYC, Northeast?
Wildfires raging in Quebec have caused smoke to blanket the northeastern US, prompting warnings for people with health problems to stay indoors. The smoke, which has given New York's skyline an eerie red tinge, could get worse before it gets better. By Saturday, winds may send smoke farther east, worsening air quality just as the weekend begins. The haze is expected to last until next week, when weather patterns causing the fires could change and bring rain to parched regions. AccuWeather's forecasters are also predicting an active wildfire season in the western US, particularly in August and September.
The Epoch Times: Using Straw to Prevent Weeds in the Garden
Adding a thin layer (1-2") of straw mulch can help keep soil just damp enough for sprouting weed seeds while mulch that is thicker (3-4") can prevent weed seeds from sprouting. Mulch moderates temperature swings, preventing damage to plants. It also helps prevent the soil from developing a crust when it is dry, which can cause gas exchange to become inhibited and prevent the roots of plants from getting enough oxygen. Smaller weeds can be removed by hoeing but a hand-pulling approach is often best for protecting plant roots. Chemicals, including homemade recipes, must be used with caution. Always use straw and not hay as hay is filled with seeds which may grow into weeds.

The jet appeared to be on autopilot when it crashed, and all four people on board, including Hefner, died in the accident. The Federal Aviation Administration had granted Hefner its highest-level medical certification prior to the crash.
