Chris Christie announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential race, with his usual "I'm the only one who can get anything done" routine. During his announcement speech, he attacked Ron DeSantis, claiming that he didn't compromise enough. However, this attack is unfounded because we need someone who sticks to their principles and fights for what's right, not someone who compromises. Christie also went on CNN to take a shot at Donald Trump, claiming he was a puppet of Putin. This kind of attack is lazy and dumb, and won't play well in a Republican primary.
Fox News: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton hires prominent lawyer for impeachment trial
A new lawyer hired by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has criticized the impeachment trial against Paxton, which is set to begin no later than August 28. Tony Buzbee, a high-profile attorney whose prominent clients have included former Texas Governor Rick Perry, called the allegations against Paxton "untrue" and accused the impeachment process of being rushed and secretive. Paxton has been under investigation by the FBI for years over accusations of using his office to benefit a donor and was separately indicted on securities fraud charges in 2015. Buzbee suggested the trial might need to be postponed until next summer in order to take testimony from over 60 witnesses and review thousands of documents.
The case for Ken Paxton's removal from office will be presented by high-profile Texas attorneys Dick DeGuerin and Rusty Hardin, while Paxton's legal team includes criminal defense attorney Dan Cogdell. Several members of Paxton's staff will also appear as witnesses. Buzbee, however, claims the allegations against Paxton are "baloney" and criticized the trial's timeframe, suggesting it would take significantly longer than the August 28 deadline. Paxton was suspended from office following his impeachment on 20 articles, including abuse of public trust and bribery. Buzbee declined to reveal who was paying for his services, stating he was "not being paid by the public."

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is suing 30 counties over local executive orders preventing the city from housing migrants in their towns. Adams announced a lawsuit that calls actions by these counties an "unlawful attempt" to prevent New York City from responding to a statewide emergency and humanitarian crisis. New York City has been overwhelmed by tens of thousands of migrants pouring into the five boroughs in the past year.
Adams declared a state of emergency on May 5 and proposed a program to transport migrants to other parts of New York state. However, his policy puts the city in conflict with several New York counties that do not want to house the migrants, with claims of public safety issues. A federal judge halted two counties' orders designed to block New York City from sending migrants to hotels in their jurisdictions, finding convincing arguments that migrants were being discriminated against on the basis of national origin and race, violating the equal protection clause under the Fourteenth Amendment.
