The Federalist: 15 Father's Day Gifts That Won't Just Clutter The Garage
15 Father's Day Gifts That Won't Just Clutter The Garage
For Father's Day, here are some gift ideas that won't add to the junk in his garage. For less than $25, make him a Spotify playlist or give him hobby supplies like golf balls or fishing lures. For $25-$50, consider a new Bible or a portable mosquito repeller. For $50 or more, opt for a bottle of his favorite spirit or tickets to an event. Shared experiences are always a hit, such as dinner together at a steakhouse or a flight voucher to visit him if he lives far away.

Frontline report: Diversionary tactics lead to Ukrainian success in Zaporizhzhia’s Lobkove assault
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have attacked Ukrainian Leopard 2 tanks, but the images show they actually targeted agricultural equipment. Meanwhile, Ukrainian artillery shelled Russian positions in Lobkove and successfully penetrated their positions. Ukrainians are increasing the intensity of their attacks along the whole front line and are expected to use their Leopards to deliver the final blow.

Fox News: Biden speaks with Canadian prime minister, offers additional support in wake of historic wildfires
Biden speaks with Canadian prime minister, offers additional support in wake of historic wildfires
President Biden offered additional resources to Canada during a phone call with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday as historic wildfires rage through the country, pushing smoke into American states as far south as North Carolina. They discussed continued cooperation to prevent wildfires and address the health impacts that such fires have on communities.

Smoke from the fires in eastern Canada has drifted south into the United States, prompting unhealthy and hazardous air quality alerts from the mid-Atlantic through the northeast and parts of the Upper Great Lakes. Multiple areas in the northeastern region were facing "hazardous" air quality index levels of over 400, forcing warnings to "avoid all outdoor activity."

The Federalist: China’s Aggression Shows Biden’s Détente Approach Won’t Work
China’s Aggression Shows Biden’s Détente Approach Won’t Work
The Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) recent actions and rhetoric suggest that President Biden's hopes for a Sino-U.S. détente are unrealistic. Last week, the People's Liberation Army sent a fighter jet dangerously close to a U.S. surveillance plane over the South China Sea. The Chinese defense minister has also rejected a U.S. request to meet, and vowed that the PLA would "absolutely not" renounce using force on Taiwan. The CCP's long-term goal is to drive the U.S. and its allies out of the South China Sea so Beijing can dominate the region, and they see Biden's détente as a sign of weakness. The U.S. and its allies must show their military readiness, as the CCP is likely to force them into a military conflict unless they can demonstrate far superior power.

Air Quality In Northeast Cities Remains ‘Hazardous’ As U.S. Sends 600 Firefighters To Battle Canadian Wildfires
Smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to result in "very unhealthy" to "hazardous” air quality levels in New York City, Philadelphia, and other cities in the northeastern US. IQAir’s global tracker lists New York as the world’s most polluted “major city,” with Philadelphia experiencing significantly worse air quality levels. Schools have been canceled and outdoor activities curtailed in both cities, with the National Weather Service’s Air Quality Health Advisory extended until at least midnight on Thursday. To help battle the wildfires, the US has sent over 600 firefighters and support personnel to Canada.

Fox News: Sucralose, a chemical in Splenda, is found to cause ‘significant health effects’ in new study
Sucralose, a chemical in Splenda, is found to cause ‘significant health effects’ in new study
Splenda, a zero-calorie sweetener used in thousands of foods, has been found to be harmful to human health. A study by North Carolina State University revealed that sucralose, the main ingredient in Splenda, can break down DNA, cause a leaky gut and increase the risk of cancerous cells forming. Even if the contaminant sucralose-6-acetate is removed completely, it can still be created by bacteria in the gut. Previous studies have shown that the consumption of Splenda can cause dysbiosis (imbalances in gut bacteria), alteration of blood glucose and insulin and an impact on the gut microbiome. Medical experts are calling for greater transparency in what ingredients are used in Splenda and other artificial sweeteners.

For Pepsi, The Champions League Final Isn’t Only For Soccer Stars
Pepsi will host the Kick Off Show for the 2023 Champions League final in Istanbul, featuring performances from Nigerian singer Burna Boy and Brazilian singer Anitta. The pre-match show, organised by the drinks giant as a partner of organisers UEFA, began in 2015, aimed at introducing NFL-style entertainment to European club soccer. Past performers have included Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas and Dua Lipa. The event takes place in Istanbul, as a nod to Turkey's long-standing links with PepsiCo operations. The event gives PepsiCo an opportunity to tell "purposeful stories", according to Mark Kirkham, the senior vice president and chief marketing officer of PepsiCo’s international beverages business.
