The top general for U.S. Space Command reportedly told Sen. Tommy Tuberville that Huntsville, Alabama is the preferred location for its new headquarters, not Colorado Springs, Colorado. This decision has become entangled in a political fight between Tuberville and the Defense Department over reproductive health care for service members, and is jeopardizing the promotions of hundreds of military officers. The decision to place the headquarters in Huntsville was made by former President Donald Trump, but has not been officially implemented by the Biden administration.
The basing decision for U.S. Space Command has become part of a larger political fight. Sen. Tuberville is fighting for the command to be based in Huntsville, which would bring lucrative jobs to his constituency. Robertson sought the Republican presidential nomination in 1988, pioneering the strategy of courting Iowa's network of evangelical Christian churches. He finished in second place in the Iowa caucuses, ahead of Vice President George H.W. Bush. His masterstroke was insisting that three million followers across the US sign petitions before he would decide to run. Robertson later endorsed Bush, who won the presidency. Pursuit of Iowa's evangelicals is now a ritual for Republican hopefuls, including those currently seeking the White House in 2024. Robertson started the Christian Coalition in Chesapeake in 1989, which became a major political force in the 1990s, mobilizing conservative voters through grassroots activities. By the time of his resignation as the coalition's president in 2001, his impact on both religion and politics in the US was "enormous."

The management are closely related to the takeover of downtown (and other neighborhoods) by bums and junkies.
The most optimistic scenario is that the hotels will be purchased at a fire-sale price and kept as 4- or 5-star hotels. The other scenario being that they will become housing for undocumented immigrants and junkies, while further depressing their tourism, convention, and office business markets. A fiscal crisis for the city is obviously ahead and San Francisco could recover if the voters become fed up with the decline of their city and the cessation of city services and subsidies upon which they have become reliant. Unless that happens, the current situation is a doom loop.
Forbes: Barnes & Noble Flagship Votes Overwhelmingly To Join Union
Barnes & Noble workers at the flagship store in Manhattan have voted to join the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, citing safety issues, substandard pay and unstable scheduling practices among the reasons. The RWDSU will represent over 100 workers in contract negotiations, which will commence this year. The workers in the proposed bargaining units include booksellers, baristas, cashiers, and all non-supervisory employees at the store.
In addition to Barnes & Noble, workers at other independent bookstores have also voted to unionize, highlighting the need for the bookstore industry to treat workers with dignity and respect. The workers at the Union Square store organized and won their union voice in the same building as corporate headquarters, set an example for Barnes & Noble workers across the country of the change that is possible in the industry.

A new meta-study by economists Steve Hanke, Lars Jonung, and Jonas Herby, titled "Did Lockdowns Work," has concluded that state-enforced lockdowns caused the vast majority of the destruction in the past few years, not COVID itself.
