The Epoch Times: Don’t Store Cash in Venmo, PayPal, and Other Payment Apps, Financial Watchdog Warns
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has warned that peer-to-peer payment apps like Venmo, CashApp and PayPal do not offer automatic government insurance against losses. It recommended users store money instead in FDIC-member bank accounts, adding that while some payment apps offer deposits in FDIC-member banks, most funds remain with the services and lack federal protection. The CFPB highlighted the dangers for customers of funds held by payment app companies during times of financial difficulty, and noted that such firms invest stored funds in similar fashion to traditional banks. Payment apps have grown in popularity, with Venmo, for example, enjoying 90 million users.

The Epoch Times: Mother of 6-Year-Old Who Shot Teacher Faces Federal Charges Over Marijuana Use, Gun Possession
Deja Taylor, mother of the 6-year-old boy who shot his teacher in Virginia, has now been accused of illegal possession of a 9 mm handgun and lying about her marijuana use on a federal background check. Though marijuana has been legalized in Virginia, it remains illegal under federal law. Taylor faces federal charges alongside the criminal counts she faces on the state level, including felony child neglect and reckless storage of a firearm, with a maximum of up to six years in prison if convicted. The federal case comes amid growing conflict between the federal government and states where marijuana use is legal.
First-grade teacher Abby Zwerner was shot by the child in her classroom, causing serious wounds to her hand and chest. She spent nearly two weeks in the hospital, has had four surgeries, and is now suing the school system for $40 million. Zwerner’s lead attorney claims that this entire case is a “Shakespearean tragedy.” Taylor’s lawyers have said that she believed the gun was secured on a high closet shelf with a trigger lock before the shooting occurred, and that it is still unclear how the child got the gun. Taylor is scheduled to plead guilty to the federal charges on Monday, and the trial for the state case is set for August.

Forbes: How Will Artificial Intelligence Fit Into The Energy Sector?
Artificial intelligence (AI) can improve energy efficiency, productivity, and outcomes by giving companies a holistic view and gathering data to improve productivity, limit expenses, and reduce environmental costs. AI eliminates "mundane activities," so those running heavy industrial operations can solve problems and improve performance, which translates into more profitable enterprises. While AI can predict weather patterns and accurately gauge when wind and solar resources are available, it is not foolproof, and its responses are mathematical, requiring a real person to intervene and make decisions in unforeseen events. Companies must adequately train managers to make informed decisions because the grid is so complex.
