National Review: Washington State Income-Tax Advocates’ Victory Was a Big One — for Florida and Texas
Washington State Income-Tax Advocates’ Victory Was a Big One — for Florida and Texas
Washington State's Supreme Court has ruled that the state's new capital gains tax is a constitutional "excise tax" rather than an unconstitutional income tax. The ruling is in contrast to the practices of the IRS and the revenue departments of other states, but cements Washington's stance on income taxes as being regressive and unfairly burdensome to the poor. Advocates celebrated the successful loophole around constitutional restrictions and voter decisions, primarily by the obligatory lament that Washington's tax system is unfair. However, despite revenue surpluses totalling over $15bn, the state's tax burden has not been cut in twelve years.

National Review: It’s Time to End Government Handouts to Big Business
It’s Time to End Government Handouts to Big Business
Michigan is providing over $700 million in taxpayer-funded incentives to battery company Gotion, partially owned by Chinese interests and tied to the country's Communist Party. However, the move has been met with bipartisan backlash, with concerns over its potential to spark further taxpayer handouts. Although the criticism mainly centers on the company's links to China, the deal highlights the issues surrounding corporate welfare practices and taxpayer funds wasted on politically favored businesses unlikely to benefit states. Gotion claims to create 2,350 jobs, but history shows that such claims seldom materialize, making the Michigan experience part of the dubious system that exists in all 50 states.

Prince Harry has testified in his first lawsuit against Mirror Group Newspapers, accusing the publisher of using unlawful techniques to dig up dirt on him and his family. One of the allegations made against the Daily Mirror is their perpetuation of a rumour that King Charles III, and not Prince Philip, was his father. Harry stated that articles like these were "hurtful, mean and cruel" and contributed to his feelings of paranoia and distrust towards those around him. The case dates back from 1996 to 2011, and is reportedly the first of several that Prince Harry intends to bring against the media.

Harrison Butker's wardrobe makes pro-life statement during Chiefs' White House visit on Monday
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker wore a tie with "Protect the most vulnerable" written on it, which was designed by a pro-life organization, to the White House in honor of the team's Super Bowl LVII victory. Butker also wore a gold pin of baby's feet, representing the size of a 10-week-old aborted baby, as a subtle message to the Biden administration about protecting the unborn. Butker is a devout Catholic who believes he is on Earth to become a saint and wants to give a voice to the unborn.

Butker played a major role in the Chiefs' victory in the past season, kicking the game-winning field goal in the AFC Championship Game against the Cincinnati Bengals and chipping a field goal down the middle to win Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles. Butker has been in the NFL since 2017 and has not relinquished his spot as the team's placekicker since then. He has made 164 field goals with his longest coming last year at 62 yards.

The pyramids, created from the erosion of moraine clay, grow out of underlying mud and stones in favorable weather conditions. As the clay is eroded, small boulders are balanced atop the spires, but they eventually disappear altogether, making way for new ones to grow. The tallest pyramids can be found on the Ritten Plateau, close to Bolzano.
