The Epoch Times: Trooper Seizes Nearly 230 Pounds of Fentanyl in Southern Arizona
Arizona troopers seized 1 million fentanyl pills ($3.1M) during a traffic stop and arrested the driver, Fernando Alfonso-Fernandez. The Biden administration imposed sanctions on 17 people and organizations, most in China and Mexico, involved in breeding and fueling the fentanyl crisis. Fentanyl is 50 times stronger than heroin. Two-thirds of drug overdoses involve synthetic opioids like fentanyl in the US, killing 107,735 from August 2021-August 2022, a 94% increase from 2019-21, with an estimated 196 Americans dying daily from fentanyl poisonings.

Russia is accused of blowing up the dam at Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station, putting 16,000 people at risk of flooding and endangering Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhzhia NPP. Potential flood zones are being monitored and evacuation of civilians has been ordered. Ukraine had warned about Russia mining the dam since October 2022 and suspected it as a pretext to accuse Ukraine of such attacks. The situation is being monitored.

The Epoch Times: 'Vanishing Point' Star Barry Newman Dead at 92
Barry Newman, Emmy-nominated actor and star of “Vanishing Point” has died at age 92. The Boston-born actor was best known for his portrayal of Kowalski in “Vanishing Point”, a Vietnam war hero and former race car driver who becomes entangled in a criminal scheme. Newman’s breakthrough role was playing Tony Petrocelli, a defense attorney, in “The Lawyer”. He would earn both Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for the role. Newman passed away on May 11 in a New York hospital; no further details are available.

The Epoch Times: Experiment Drug Touted as Breakthrough for Intractable Brain Cancer
French drug developer Servier Laboratories has released promising results on an experimental drug therapy for a slow-moving type of brain cancer called low-grade glioma. The drug Vorasidenib staved off cancer growth twice as long as those not taking it, with the growth being held off by a median of 27.7 months on average, versus 11.1 months for the placebo group. The medication is one of the first targeted therapies for the type of brain tumor affecting adults under the age of 50, giving hope to cancer patients and their families worldwide. Servier is working towards filing it for Food and Drug Administration approval by 2024.
