Reggie Fowler, a former part owner of the Minnesota Vikings, was sentenced to over six years in prison and ordered to forfeit $740 million for defrauding the Alliance of American Football in a $700 million cryptocurrency scam. Fowler lied to the league's executives claiming to control bank accounts with tens of millions of dollars from real estate investments and government contracts but the league ended quickly in 2019 when it ran out of money. US Attorney Damian Williams said Fowler broke the law by processing hundreds of millions of dollars of unregulated transactions on behalf of cryptocurrency exchanges that were used as a shadow bank.
Defense lawyer Edward Sapone wrote that Fowler was heartbroken that he let himself engage in crimes after over six decades of extraordinary contributions to family and community, and that Fowler was extremely remorseful about not being able to invest the promised investment money. Fowler tried to buy the NFL's Minnesota Vikings in 2005, becoming its minority owner before his involvement in the team ended in 2014. The court ordered Fowler to pay restitution of $53 million.

Train service along Southern California's coast has been suspended for the second time this year after a crumbling hillside dropped debris onto seaside tracks.
