The Blaze: NYC houses of worship to shelter migrants amid influx of asylum-seekers: Mayor Adams
Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced a two-year scheme to use 50 houses of worship to provide shelter to homeless asylum seekers. The plan will commence in July, providing nearly 1,000 asylum-seekers with overnight accommodation across five boroughs in New York for two years. Each facility will be able to house approximately 19 single, adult men but will not be meant to act as permanent shelters.
Fox News: NYC Mayor Eric Adams wants to house migrants in churches, proposes private residences down the road
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has partnered with New York Disaster Interfaith Services to offer overnight shelter for up to 19 single adult men at 50 different faith-based locations. Adams also suggested the idea of eventually housing thousands of migrants in private dwellings and paying landlords and homeowners to do so. He argues that this plan is both cheaper and will put money back into the pockets of everyday New Yorkers instead of corporations. The city is currently paying $380 per night for a household to stay at hotels turned shelters, whereas the proposed faith-based locations would cost about $125 per night.
Fox News: 10 arrested in North Macedonian migrant-smuggling raid
North Macedonian authorities have arrested 10 men who are suspected to have been part of a smuggling operation transporting people from Greece, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Serbia to various locations in the European Union. The group allegedly charged each migrant between 2,000 and 4,000 euros. Three members of the organization are already serving time for separate offenses, while four more are currently wanted for arrest. The suspects were charged with a minimum prison sentence of five years for their smuggling offenses. Smuggling activity has increased in the region in recent weeks, in part because of low water levels along the Evros River that forms a natural border between Turkey and EU member Greece.

Fox News: Mississippi faces lawsuit over legislation restricting free speech near government buildings
A new Mississippi law will require people to obtain permission from state law enforcement officials for protests near certain government buildings, which a federal lawsuit says infringes on protected speech. The law creates a chilling effect on peaceful protests and individuals who protest without government authorization may be prosecuted and sentenced to prison. The lawsuit filed on behalf of the Mississippi Poor People's Campaign and other organizations challenges the new law, arguing that it restricts free speech. The two officials who will be authorized to issue permits for protests in parts of the majority-Black city are both white men, giving them veto authority over protests that criticize their own expanded authority and actions as well as that of other state officials.
Critics of new Mississippi laws, which expand the state's role in courts and policing in Jackson, say the majority-white, Republican-controlled Legislature passed them to take away local autonomy in Jackson and surrounding Hinds County, both of which are majority-Black and governed by Democrats. Supporters of the laws say they are trying to control violent crime. Several protests have been held near state government buildings in downtown Jackson during the past year, including some against the legislation on courts and policing. People planning protests or other events in downtown Jackson are already required to obtain a city-issued permit. The lawsuit said people will need permission from both the city and the state for protests or events in parts of Jackson, but state permission is not required for protests or events near state government buildings elsewhere in Mississippi.
Newsbusters: 'A Very Easy Case:' Scarborough Sees Slam Dunk Prosecution of Trump on Documents
On "Morning Joe," Joe Scarborough predicts that former President Donald Trump will be easily prosecuted for obstructing justice and lying in the handling of classified documents after leaving the presidency. He claims that the walls are closing in on Trump and that even Trump's lawyers' memos will be "devastating" to his cause. However, a conviction would likely strengthen Trump's MAGA base and even arouse sympathy among persuadables. The investigation into the matter is ongoing, and the Justice Department has not provided a statement.
The Epoch Times: Some Republicans Hint at Reckoning With McCarthy After Debt Ceiling Vote
House Republican leaders and the House Freedom Caucus clashed over the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which raised the debt ceiling, on June 1. The legislation passed by a wide margin in both the House and Senate, but nearly half of the 71 Republicans who voted against it are members of the House Freedom Caucus. Some members have hinted at a vote to vacate the speaker’s chair held by Kevin McCarthy. Senate Republicans have also expressed their unhappiness with the act, with GOP senators voting against it by a margin of 31-17.
Washington Free Beacon: Failing Up: Biden to Tap Buttigieg Deputy To Lead Flailing Federal Aviation Administration
Biden is expected to appoint Trottenberg to lead the FAA amid increased near-plane collisions. Buttigieg has received criticism for his handling of the Transportation Department and taxpayer-funded flights around the world. Trottenberg, with no aviation experience, served as deputy transportation security under Obama and New York City's transportation commissioner. The FAA has not had a Senate-confirmed leader since Trump's administration. Phil Washington withdrew his nomination in March due to concerns about his record.
Fox News: Republicans raise ethics concerns over Biden Cabinet official who ordered oil leasing ban
Republicans are raising concerns over potential conflicts of interest for Interior Secretary Deb Haaland's recent decision to bar oil and gas drilling near Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico. In a letter to Haaland, the House Republicans expressed worry about her past activism and family ties to a New Mexico environmental and cultural group, Pueblo Action Alliance (PAA), which opposes new leasing. Moreover, Haaland's daughter Somah also lobbied against new leasing on behalf of PAA. Republicans asked Haaland to reveal her ties to PAA, and asked questions related to her ethics obligations and communications with PAA.
Protect the Public's Trust, a government watchdog organization, filed lawsuits against the Department of the Interior in April alleging that the agency and its subagency Bureau of Land Management have hidden information about communications involving Somah Haaland. Republicans said they want to oversee federal agencies and cabinet secretaries leading them, and to determine how decisions on domestic oil and natural gas production are made. The PAA didn't immediately respond to a request for comment, while the Interior Department declined to comment. Haaland faces criticisms for her potential ethical violations.
Fox News: Manchin fires back at Obama adviser who called him 'dead man walking' in West Virginia: 'Funny comment'
CNN analyst David Axelrod called Senator Joe Manchin a "dead man walking" in West Virginia, to which the senator's spokesperson fired back, saying Manchin's focus is on doing the best job for West Virginia and the American people. Manchin, a moderate Democrat who hasn't ruled out a possible third-party bid for the White House, is reportedly being eyed by the "No Labels" movement for a potential run. The senator did not rule out a third-party run during an interview with Fox News' Shannon Bream on Sunday and emphasized the importance of coming back to the middle.

Fox News: MSU hit with civil rights complaint alleging school’s business boot camp discriminated against white males
The Equal Protection Project has filed a civil rights complaint against Missouri State University, accusing the university's business boot camp program of illegally discriminating against white males. The program was accused of violating the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 by limiting participation to individuals who identify as "BIPOC" or female, excluding white males. MSU initially limited the program to minority and/or women-owned businesses but later stated it would be offered to all businesses, irrespective of their race and sex.
The Blaze: Video PROVES far-left crime policy is DESTROYING American cities
Oakland residents have become increasingly frustrated with city officials for not addressing the rise in crime. Foreign Policy: Don’t Delay Ukraine’s Path to NATO Membership
The NATO summit in Vilnius is approaching and there is debate over whether Ukraine will be offered a clear path to membership. John R. Deni argues that discussing Ukraine's membership distracts from the expansion of Western aid needed to secure Ukraine's victory, but a clear and believable commitment to bring Ukraine into the alliance after the conflict could bring the war to an early end. Some argue that Ukraine is not ready politically for membership and that a path to NATO membership would play into Putin's propaganda and boost Russia's will to persist in the conflict. However, it is argued that bringing Ukraine into the alliance would provide a defensive shield, reduce strategic pressure on Ukraine, and allow for the restoration of Ukraine's land in its entirety.
National Review: The Corner: The Desire for Drama on Ukraine’s Battlefields
The Ukrainian military recently confirmed their forces are shifting to "offensive actions," which will most likely focus on breaking Russian lines. The stakes are high as the success or failure of this offensive will determine Ukraine's ability to receive further assistance from the West and push for additional security guarantees at the NATO summit this summer. A lack of dramatic quick progress could lead to Ukraine being consigned behind Russian lines to the campaign of genocidal ethnic cleansing. The Western apprehension about Ukraine's prospects conveys nothing as much as the conditionality of the West's support for Ukraine's sovereignty, and its only effect would be to strengthen the Kremlin's resolve to wait for the U.S. and Europe to get bored or queasy and bug out.
Human Events: New York Times admits Ukrainian soldiers have Nazi insignia,
symbols on clothing
Nazi symbols are regularly seen on the uniforms of Ukrainian soldiers, but international figures avoid discussing it to avoid playing into Russian propaganda. The New York Times reported that at least six soldiers have been seen wearing patches displaying Nazi imagery on social media, but these posts have since been deleted. NATO and the Ukrainian state emergency services agency have also posted photos of soldiers wearing similar patches, which have been removed. While some worry about the optics of calling attention to the iconography, others argue that symbols should be interpreted through the Ukrainian lens.

The Epoch Times: US Treasury Poised to Unleash $1 Trillion in Bonds After Debt Ceiling Deal
The US Treasury's cash balance sank to below $23 billion on June 1, down from $316 billion at the start of May. To resume funding needs and obligations, Washington could offer $1.4 trillion in T-bills over the next six months in a near-record issuance of short-term US government debt. Concerns are growing over the potential for a credit crunch as banks may not compete with the government's yields compared with what they can receive from their reserves. While there is typically a diverse array of buyers for short-term securities, some experts predict banks could sit on the sidelines during Treasury auctions due to disinterest, increasing potential for volatility and fluctuations in security portfolios.
Officials are not concerned with worries of stress in the financial markets, as the US Treasury has been planning sizable auctions for over a month and previous data suggests there is no backlash from enormous debt issuance. In the past, during debt ceiling fights, substantial bond issuance did not indicate adverse effects on equities. However, some critics suggest these events did not coincide with stress in the sector, and it is unclear if the Federal Reserve intends to scoop up Treasurys. The US central bank is presently engaged in its quantitative tightening cycle and reducing the size of its Treasury securities by allowing them to mature. The unfolding events may spark consequences for the US economy in the coming months.
Fox News: CT Legislature expected to pass $51.1B budget, first personal income tax cut since 1996
Connecticut lawmakers are expected to pass a $51.1 billion state budget on Monday. The budget includes a historic cut to the state's personal income tax, which is set to benefit approximately 1.1 million tax filers. Republican House Minority Leader Vincent Candelora welcomed the tax cut, even though the GOP had wanted more tax relief for businesses. The budget would also boost state aid for local school districts, fund the "baby bonds" program, increase rates for ambulance services, and provide additional funding for nonprofit social service agencies and state colleges and universities.

Forbes: ‘The Idol’ Premiere Is Shockingly Boring
HBO series The Idol, starring Lily-Rose Depp and Abel Tesfaye, was controversial pre-release due to reports of a chaotic production and negative reception at Cannes. Described by critics as "sordid" and a "pornhub-homepage odyssey," the premiere episode is shockingly boring and lacking in charisma and chemistry between the leads. Jocelyn, a pop star teetering on the edge of a depressive breakdown, is surrounded by cynical sycophants who seek to keep the money flowing, no matter what. The episode includes scenes of Jocelyn willingly going topless for a music video, encountering Tedros and engaging in a consensual yet uncomfortable kinky sex session involving a knife.

The Epoch Times: How an Unproven Diet Guideline Became Unchallengeable
Dietary guidelines and health organizations continue to promote polyunsaturated vegetable fats over animal fats, despite research showing the potential cancer risks of vegetable oils when cooked. Investigative journalist Nina Teicholz gave three reasons why the recommendation stays in place despite a lack of evidence to support it: bureaucracy versus science, financial incentives, and established dogma. The Diet-Heart Hypothesis of the American Heart Association, which initially blamed fat, later narrowed down to saturated fat, for causing coronary heart disease, has never been fully proven, but has become a legitimate national policy. The pharmaceutical industry has also made billions of dollars by selling drugs that lower LDL cholesterol. The belief that saturated fat is bad for the heart has become a dogma challenging which, even by presenting research and theories contrary to the idea, often leads to backlash and attacks.

San Francisco-based immigrant, Zaid, recently suffered a loss of $100,000 in merchandise and cash after his store was robbed - he called the city worse than Afghanistan and Iraq.
