Fox News: 'Terrifying': Massachusetts man banned from Facebook after sharing cryptic letter about democracy's demise
Massachusetts man, Chad Jones, was banned from Facebook after sharing a letter from a retired California judge outlining how to "overturn democracy." The letter's authenticity was debated, but Jones was silenced by Big Tech regardless. He is now doubling down on his efforts to speak out against tyranny in the digital town square and beyond and feels that he is not alone as millions of Americans are now fighting the effort to silence debate.

The Epoch Times: Australian Government Announces Law Reform to Resolve Migrant Worker Exploitation
Australian government introduces new legislation to crack down on the exploitation of migrant workers, including higher penalties for employers who force workers to breach their visa conditions, a prohibition on hiring people on temporary visas for those found to exploit migrant workers, and new compliance tools to deter exploitation. The government will also provide $50 million (US$33 million) in extra funding to enable the Australian Border Force to enforce the new laws. The Australian Council Of Trade Unions (ACTU) welcomed the new legislation while denouncing migrant worker exploitation as "a national shame."
The Federalist: How Academic Debate Became A Propagandist Tool
Leftist bias has overtaken the judging of high school debates at the national level, according to an essay by James Fishback. Fishback notes that students must contend with judges who are self-proclaimed Marxists, and as a result, their arguments must align with a leftist slant, which transforms young talented debaters into committed ideologues. This practice risks transforming the whole culture of competitive debate into an absurd echo chamber where reasoned arguments are replaced with mindless partisan signaling.
Debating ideas on their objective merits has increasingly fallen by the wayside, with blatant partisanship and sophistry already corrupting public discourse. These issues are no longer isolated to high school debates, but rather have taken over college campuses in the form of ideologically-induced echo chambers. The pursuit of ending real debate altogether comes at the expense of abandoning the truth and an unwillingness to entertain any dissenting views. If left unchecked, this habit risks further dividing communities and causing a decline in reason-based discourse.

The Economist: President Erdogan shifts towards sane economics
President Erdogan of Turkey is changing tack on the country's economic policy by appointing Mehmet Simsek, a voice of economic orthodoxy, as the new treasury and finance minister. Simsek's appointment has sparked hope among foreign investors, many of whom have lost confidence in Turkey's economy over the past few years due to Erdogan's previous policies. The most important change for the country's economy will involve reversing an easing cycle that began in 2021 and caused galloping inflation, leading to a decline in the value of the country's currency.
The Turkish central bank’s next monetary policy meeting is scheduled for June 22. Whether and when the lira stabilises against other currencies depends on whether Simsek can convince Erdogan that interest-rate raises are necessary, something Erdogan has previously aligned with, as he considers interest rates to be the "mother of all evil." To avert an unfavorable scenario, the economy will need to be overhauled, which could eventually take a back seat to Erdogan's political interests as local elections are due next March. The appointment of the new central bank governor will be an encouraging sign of whether the bank is about to change course.

The Federalist: Sullivan Ruling Denies The Right To Defend Against Defamation
Katherine McKee accused Bill Cosby of sexual assault and spoke to the media about her experience. Cosby's lawyer responded with accusations of lying, leading McKee to file a defamation lawsuit. However, due to the New York Times v. Sullivan case, which makes it difficult for public figures to sue for defamation, McKee's lawsuit was dismissed. Justice Clarence Thomas has consistently called for the overruling of the Sullivan case, as it goes against the original meaning of the Constitution and causes harm to people like McKee.
