The Federalist Papers: Lauren Boebert Breaks Silence on Real Reason She Skipped Debt Ceiling Vote
Lauren Boebert Breaks Silence on Real Reason She Skipped Debt Ceiling Vote
Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado refused to vote on raising the US debt ceiling, calling it a form of protest against a "rigged system." She argued that the decision to pass a multi-trillion-dollar bill without allowing debate or amendments is a symptom of Washington's disregard for democracy and transparency. Boebert accused Congress of creating deals in the dark, leading the US towards $36 trillion in debt. Her decision followed strong denunciations of the bill, which has since been signed by President Joe Biden.

Social Security and Medicare are on the verge of bankruptcy due to too many older people living longer while there are not enough younger people in the workforce to support them. Politicians refuse to address the issue or take any action to fix the system, even when they acknowledge its inevitable failure. Medicare has complicated paperwork, and people do not comparison shop for medical treatment since they believe someone else will pay. Democracies like France have raised the age for retirement to avoid going broke, but the public protests against such decisions. The only solution to avoid a Zimbabwe-like printing of money is to cut benefits, raise the retirement age or privatize retirement plans, but politicians are afraid to risk their votes by making such decisions.

The Epoch Times: Investors Should Brace for Debt Ceiling Aftermath
Investors Should Brace for Debt Ceiling Aftermath
The debt-ceiling deal agreement is a double-edged sword, with the immediate risk of a US government default avoided but potential turmoil in the equity markets expected. The end of the debt-ceiling drama is equivalent to a 25-basis-point hike, with liquidity set to be drained from the financial system. A surge in Treasury bond supply and higher yields will likely force corporate depositors to move cash into money funds and short-term bills, resulting in a drawdown in bank reserves and causing pain for consumers, with Macy's, Target, and Costco all saying shoppers are focusing on essential items rather than discretionary spending.

In 1995, 'Embarrassed' Giants Owner Apologized for Anti-Catholic 'Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence' Being on the Field
The Los Angeles Dodgers are facing backlash for honoring the anti-Catholic drag nun group known as the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence” during their “Pride Night” celebration. Concerns about the group’s inclusion were raised by Catholic League President William Donohue, who compared the situation to the San Francisco Giants’ controversy in 1995 and noted society’s cultural changes. Dodgers players, including Blake Treinen and Clayton Kershaw, have publicly opposed the decision to “honor” the group, citing their mockery and bigotry towards Christianity. The drag nuns are also being honored in the California State Senate, facing criticism from the Senate Republican Caucus for their anti-religious antics.

Only One Major League Baseball Team Still Declines to Hold a Pride Night Game

In 2003, the team held an informal gay night but received protests from both sides. The Rangers' COO, Neil Leibman, stated that they made changes internally to be more inclusive rather than holding a Pride Night. Despite this, activist groups have criticized the Rangers for not doing enough compared to other teams in the league.

‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Season 8, Episode 4 Review: Maybe Watch At Double Speed
In Fear The Walking Dead, Morgan heads back to King County to find zombified Duane while Grace, Dwight, Sherry, and the bird people pursue him. Grace is bitten and needs radiation treatment that could kill her unless Morgan makes her pregnant. The episode is gimmicky, with Morgan-Crazy and unrealistic time-jumping. This location reminds us of an earlier, better time for The Walking Dead.

The Imaginative Conservative: Why Intellectual Work Matters
Why Intellectual Work Matters
eyond "straitened circumstances," but the escape is again a flight into realities beyond oneself: animal behavior, astronomy, and the mechanics of the inner life. The intellect has no limit to its subject matter. Activism has become the main goal of contemporary higher education, ruling even conservative institutions. But while activism is crucial for social and political functioning, its conquest of the whole of intellectual life must be resisted. Little human things like walks in snowy woods, fishing or Christmas decorations meet a crucial human need just as high achievement does. Work that matters serves others by providing for a human need, some piece of the human good. Academics must drive out the ghosts of uselessness and irrelevance and return to their role as stewards of a certain crucial piece of human flourishing. Intellectual life provides an escape from ordinary monotony, and acts as a source of dignity.
