The Epoch Times: US Defence Chief Calls on Beijing to Engage in Dialogue to Avoid Conflict
US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, has emphasised the need for serious talks between the United States and China, despite Beijing's lack of interest. At the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue 2023, Austin condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine and highlighted the potential flashpoint in the US-China standoff: Taiwan. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) claims Taiwan as part of mainland China. However, Austin emphasised that the United States is "deeply committed" to preserving the status quo in the Taiwan Strait and urged China to talk to avoid conflict.
The CCP's "aggressive and unprofessional" conduct in sea and air around Taiwan is alarming, Austin stated. Although America is not treaty-bound to jump in if China attacks Taiwan, President Biden has promised to come to Taiwan's aid if the island is attacked. Austin called for dialogue between the United States and China and expressed hope that the CCP would start engaging in substantive engagement instead of its resistance to doing so. Conflict in the Taiwan Strait would have devastating consequences, affecting global peace and stability.

Forbes: Al-Hilal Already Have Date To Announce Lionel Messi Signing: Reports
Al-Hilal have reportedly set June 6th as the date to announce the signing of Lionel Messi, who will be a free agent on June 30 after his contract with PSG expires. While Messi's camp has denied any agreement with the Saudi club, they are said to have a €350 million per year offer waiting for the Argentine, which would make him the world's highest-paid athlete. If the deal goes through, it would be a major coup for Saudi Arabia, which already signed Cristiano Ronaldo in January and has aspirations to host the 2030 World Cup.
