Smith raised concerns about the logistics of returning migrants and questioned what benefits France would gain from the deal, noting the lack of successful agreements in the past. He remains pessimistic about the potential outcomes of the negotiations.

Italy and Spain send letter to EU in fury over France 'one in, one out' migrant deal with Britain
Sir Keir Starmer's proposed "one in, one out" migrant deal with France faces opposition from Italy, Spain, and three other southern EU nations. These countries fear that the agreement could lead to an influx of asylum seekers being returned to them under EU rules, complicating the processing of claims.

The plan aims to deter Channel crossings by allowing the UK to take in asylum seekers from France while returning a corresponding number of migrants. However, critics argue that the scheme may not effectively deter crossings and could lead to more complications in managing asylum claims across Europe.

New measures from the Home Office will allow police to seize illegal e-bikes and e-scooters within 48 hours, a reduction from the previous 14-day policy. This change aims to deter repeat offenders and improve community safety, as officials highlight the negative impact of reckless driving on local neighborhoods.
