Exclusive: Support Mounts Among GOP for Merrick Garland Impeachment
Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee are considering an impeachment inquiry into Attorney General Merrick Garland over whistleblower allegations of political interference into the Justice Department's probe of Hunter Biden's taxes. The allegations claim that Garland twice prevented United States Attorney David Weiss from bringing stronger charges and rejected a request to appoint a special counsel in the probe to separate the DOJ from President Joe Biden. Garland denies the claims. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has threatened impeachment proceedings if the allegations are found to be true.

House Republicans divided over push to 'expunge' Trump impeachment

Fox News: Some states consider taxing by the mile rather than gallon as electric vehicles become more popular
Some states consider taxing by the mile rather than gallon as electric vehicles become more popular
Oregon, Utah, and Virginia have introduced road usage charging programs in an attempt to replace motor fuel taxes, which have less purchasing power every year as a result of inflation, fuel efficiency, and electric vehicle sales. Three states generating revenue from the initiative are planning to create a mandatory program to increase public familiarity with the system. However, while multi-state charging programs present challenges, the biggest obstacle is getting the public to recognize the diminishing returns from the gas tax historically used to pay for roads. Although mileage-based programs are gaining traction, the likelihood of one working at a large scale remains uncertain.

The federal government will shortly pilot a road usage charging program in receipt of $125 million from President Biden's November 2021 infrastructure measure. If there is no action, a gap of around $67 billion could arise by 2050 as a consequence of fuel efficiency alone. Some states have imposed additional taxes or registration fees on electric vehicles to bridge the gap, and several are examining electronic tolling systems. The relationship between people using roads and bridges and how to pay for them must be reconsidered, according to experts. Road usage fees are seen as the most promising option by many, but they must first be made compulsory, and the public must trust the system.

Video of the incident went viral, with some speculating that the group was "feds" or Leftists. Former member of Congress and "senior political commentator" for CNN, Adam Kinzinger, fueled speculation with a comment that went viral causing many people to question whether he had just identified the Patriot Front as "federal officers." The FBI denied involvement with the group, but due to their past controversies, their statement was met with skepticism from both sides of the aisle.
