The Economist: The Supreme Court declines to upend American election law
The Supreme Court upholds American election law, rejecting the "independent state legislature" theory which sought to give state legislatures near-absolute authority over federal elections. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the six-justice majority, stating that while the federal constitution may empower state legislatures to make election laws, it does not insulate them from the ordinary exercise of state judicial review. Justice Clarence Thomas dissented, arguing that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case. The decision confirms the role of state courts in policing state legislatures' actions in regard to federal elections.
Red State: Watch: London Breed Accidentally Proves Ron DeSantis’ Point About the State of Things in San Francisco
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticizes California Governor Gavin Newsom for the exodus occurring in California due to issues like high cost of living and rampant homelessness. He contrasts it with Florida, where a lot of former California residents have settled. DeSantis visited California to campaign and fundraise for his 2024 presidential campaign.
San Francisco’s mayor London Breed fails to counter what DeSantis claimed about San Francisco. Her solutions for fixing the problem involve things that will do nothing to reverse the negative trends that have gotten progressively worse over decades of Democrat rule. This proves DeSantis’ point about the failure of leftist policies.
