Newsbusters: New York Times Attacks Gutfeld For Promoting 'Nihilism,' Fox For Threaning Democracy
The New York Times has published a profile of Greg Gutfeld, Fox's sole late night comic, in which Gutfeld was accused of being a nihilist and working for a network that is a threat to democracy. The article points out the double standards between liberal comedians and Gutfeld, as well as attacking the ironic sense of humor used on Fox. Ultimately, Gutfeld’s success poses a challenge for the thesis that conservatives aren’t very good at comedy.
Daily Wire: ‘Planned In Plain Sight’: Senate Committee Lawmakers Blame DHS, FBI For January 6 Security Failures
The Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee released a 106-page report on Tuesday, alleging that the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security were aware of online threats to Capitol Hill as early as December 2020, yet failed to sound the alarm with other law enforcement. Senators on the committee claimed that federal law enforcement agencies had downplayed numerous tips threatening violence ahead of the 2020 presidential election certification. Over 800 people are linked to crimes related to the January 6, 2021, event where approximately 2,000 people, including Proud Boys and Oath Keepers members, stormed the Capitol in an attempt to stop the January 2021 transfer of presidential power.
Breitbart: Survey: Trump Beats Biden by Three Percent; DeSantis Loses to Biden
Donald Trump leads Joe Biden in hypothetical 2024 election matchup, according to a Morning Consult survey. Trump sits at 44% while Biden is at 41%, with a margin of error of +/- 1%. However, Biden leads Ron DeSantis in another scenario 42% to 40%. Trump dominates the Republican primary field with 57% support, while DeSantis fell back to 19% and Mike Pence at 7%.
Spectator USA: Are the walls closing in on ol’ Joe?
As evidence piles up on the Biden family's involvement in corrupt schemes, their defenders are struggling to find excuses. Many are changing the subject or saying "But Trump is worse." Some are still denying Biden's involvement, while others are using the "not proven" line. The charges against the Bidens are mounting and the DOJ, IRS, and FBI are being accused of stonewalling the investigation, which could lead to an impeachment inquiry against Merrick Garland. Republicans face the challenge of balancing these corruption inquiries with pressing issues like the economy, crime, and immigration. Christie's comparison between the Bidens and Kushners is false, since Trump made his money from inheritance and real estate, while public office was the source of Biden family wealth. In contrast to Biden's allegations, Trump's most damning charges are that he sought to undermine our democracy by refusing to accept the results of the 2020 election.
Spectator USA: Supreme Court rules against independent state legislature theory
The Supreme Court ruled state legislatures must adhere to their own constitutions and allow state supreme courts to adjudicate congressional district boundaries. The independent state legislature theory, used by North Carolina, was deemed not a viable legal theory.
Fox News: White House blames technical glitch for removal of Jean-Pierre's hostile exchange with reporter
White House correspondent Simon Ateba accused the Biden administration of deleting a heated exchange between himself and press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre from the Monday live stream, claiming discrimination against him. Ateba followed up with Jean-Pierre over whether he could ask questions, stating that he had been discriminated against for months. After Fox News reached out for comment, the missing video segment was restored to the stream, which the White House stated was caused by an error with the encoder. Ateba called it out, saying his job was to make those comfortable uncomfortable.
National Review: The ‘Independent State Legislature’ Doctrine Isn’t Dead Yet
The Supreme Court's decision in Moore v. Harper allows state courts to review congressional maps and election laws under state law, including invalidation of laws by reference to state constitutional provisions. However, it rejects the strongest version of the "independent state legislature" doctrine and preserves the power of state referenda. This decision may be good news for House Republicans in the current House GOP majority and highlights the perpetual battle over redistricting in North Carolina. The contours of the doctrine of the independent-state-legislature theory remain unresolved, leaving the possibility of another national election dispute in the future.

Washington Free Beacon: Penn State Equity Officer Praises Looting, Lawsuit Claims
Penn State equity officer praised looting after George Floyd's death, according to a lawsuit by former professor Zack De Piero claiming violation of his free speech and discrimination for being white. Alina Wong allegedly wanted white faculty to "feel the pain" and said looting was "getting what you're due." De Piero also claimed Penn State administrators showed bias against conservatives, deleting a tweet telling conservative students their "viewpoints are important."

Fox News: GOP Rep introduces bipartisan 'Marc Fogel Act' pushing State Dept for answers on Americans jailed overseas
Rep. Guy Reschenthaler of Pennsylvania introduced the Marc Fogel Act for more transparency from the State Department on wrongful detainment determinations abroad. The bill requires the State Department to provide Congress with documents and communications on wrongful determinations within six months of arrest. Fogel, a U.S. teacher held in Russia since August 2021, was sentenced to 14 years for possessing medical marijuana, despite meeting six of the criteria established by the Robert Levinson Hostage Recovery and Hostage-Taking Accountability Act to be designated as wrongfully detained.
Fogel's family seeks aid from the U.S. government to bring him home, but his release, pardon, or sentence reduction is said to be "highly unlikely" due to reduced chances of receiving a fair appeal. The U.S. government previously secured the release of WNBA star Brittney Griner from Russia in exchange for convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. Russia is also holding American Paul Whelan and Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich. Other Americans across the globe, like Mark Swidan in China, are facing wrongful detentions.
Foreign Policy: What Does the Wagner Revolt Mean for China?
China's delayed response to the Wagner Group's insurrection in Russia reflects uncertainty within the Chinese leadership. Putin's weakened position may disturb the Chinese Communist Party, but it is unlikely to result in significant changes in how China handles its military. U.S.-China tensions remain high after U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to Beijing, and more U.S. investment curbs on China are on the horizon. Meanwhile, the release of a declassified report summarizing the state of U.S. intelligence on the origins of COVID-19 includes little new information. Agribusiness giant Syngenta is set to list on the Shanghai stock exchange.

Forbes: Diddy Liquor Dispute: Diageo Dropping Rapper Who Sued For Racial Discrimination, Unfair Promotion Of Liquor Brands
Diageo PLC will end its 15-year partnership with Sean "Diddy" Combs after the rapper accused the liquor company of providing unequal treatment to his Ciroc and DeLeón brands because he’s Black. Diageo has accused Combs of "bad-faith actions" and threatening "to publicly defame Diageo if we did not meet his unreasonable financial demands." Combs filed a lawsuit earlier this year claiming Diageo has “proven unwilling to treat its Black partners equally."
Combs Wines and Spirits in 2007 entered into an equal-sharing venture with Diageo for Ciroc. In his lawsuit filed in May, Combs said Diageo neglected his brands in favor of others. Diageo said Combs never paid for his half of the purchase and "severely damaged the DeLeon brand at a critical juncture, and stalled its promise and potential for growth for several years."
The Blaze: Over $200 billion in COVID relief funds lost to potential fraud and abuse, gov't watchdog finds — significantly higher than previous estimates
More than $200 billion in COVID relief funds were potentially lost to fraud, waste, and abuse, according to a report from the Office of Inspector General of the Small Business Administration. The report estimated that at least 17% of the relief funds, totaling approximately $1.2 trillion, were disbursed to potential fraudsters, with more than $136 billion in COVID-19 EIDLs and $64 billion in PPP funds. The eased review process from the SBA had the "allure of 'easy money'" for fraudsters.
The OIG's investigation into the potentially stolen funds has so far resulted in 1,011 indictments, 803 arrests, and 529 convictions, with approximately $30 billion in fraudulently obtained relief funds seized and returned to the SBA. The report claimed that the fraud resulted from the SBA's "weakened or removed" controls to allow swift distribution of emergency funds to those in need. The report triggered a response from Bailey DeVries, acting associate administrator of the SBA, who expressed concern that the report contained "serious flaws that significantly overestimate fraud."
Forbes: Let’s Cancel Annoying Workplace Rules
AT&T has eliminated or modified all 459 workplace rules identified by its employees that slow down productivity. Canceling annoying rules led to an annual savings of $186M and is a starting place to simplify operations. Employees identify annoying rules and place them on a matrix, with easy-to-cancel and high-impact rules in the upper-right quadrant being prime targets. The technique can be led in-person, remotely or hybrid and requires a virtual or physical whiteboard accompanied by physical or virtual sticky notes. Encourage employees to think in terms of red and green rules, with everything except government-mandated and industry-regulated rules (red) being a fair target for cancellation.

National Review: The Corner: Digital Heresy Is Surprisingly Cheap
Sermonly, an AI-powered sermon-generating service, has been launched by Tithe.ly. For the price of $10 per month, AI can help interpret religious texts and provide new perspectives for preachers, according to its creators. However, AI-generated sermons have been criticised by some religious scholars as they argue that the act of writing sermons is what gives them life, and that the use of AI could be viewed as digital heresy.
The New American: UN Targets Religions That Don’t Bow to LGBTQ Ideology - The New American

Fox News: Ancient Roman wall painting does not depict pizza after all, archeologists say
Archaeologists in Pompeii have discovered a fresco that was thought to depict a pizza, but experts now believe it shows a focaccia covered with fruit. The image was painted over 2,000 years ago and was discovered in the ruins of the ancient city located near Naples, Italy, where pizza is widely believed to have been invented. Yet, the key ingredients of pizza - tomatoes and mozzarella - did not arrive in Italy until centuries later. The picture in the fresco shows a relatively frugal meal set in a luxurious environment.
The discovery of the fresco has prompted the Coldiretti ag lobby to promote pizza as a national treasure in Italy and highlight that today pizza represents one-third of the food budget of foreign visitors, generating total annual revenues of $16.4bn. In 2017, the art of the "pizza maker" became part of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list. Pompeii was destroyed in the eruption of nearby Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. and the site is a major archaeological project and tourist location.

Breitbart: Report: OceanGate Bought Carbon Fiber 'Past Shelf Life' for Titanic Sub
OceanGate's CEO, Stockton Rush, admitted to using expired carbon fiber for the Titan submersible that crashed and killed all five passengers. Rush claimed to have collaborated with Boeing on the sub's design, but the company denies any involvement or sales to OceanGate. Experts had warned of structural issues due to the use of carbon fiber, which increases fatigue and delamination loads and caused tiny cracks in the hull. Water leakage through the carbon fiber and titanium join is believed to have caused the fatal implosion.
Fox News: 'Indiana Jones' star Harrison Ford reveals which actor was originally offered lead role
Tom Selleck was initially offered the role of Indiana Jones in the iconic adventure series, but could not accept due to his commitment to Magnum P.I. Harrison Ford stepped in as the second choice and went on to star in the franchise's first four films. George Lucas called Ford to tell him to read the script, while Spielberg directed the movies. Lucas had originally considered finding a different actor for the role to avoid becoming too reliant on Ford as a leading man.
