Flag And Cross: Supreme Court Rules 'No' On GOP, Trump-Backed Gerrymandering Theory With 6-3 Vote
The US Supreme Court has rejected a Conservative-backed legal theory that would have given state legislatures unchecked power to draft new rules on federal elections and partisan gerrymandering, in Moore v. Harper. In a 6-3 vote, conservative Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito Jr. and Neil Gorsuch dissented. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. wrote that "the Constitution does not exempt state legislatures from the ordinary constraints imposed by state law" and that state courts "do not have free rein". This decision could make it more difficult for a dominant political party to gerrymander district voting maps to maintain control of the seats.
Fox News: Nashville is working to bring NASCAR back to historic Fairgrounds Speedway
Efforts to bring NASCAR back to the historic Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville continue, with hopes of the track hosting one of the races on the NASCAR schedule. The track has not hosted a Cup Series race since 1984, but many drivers and fans would like to see it return to the schedule. The challenge, however, is the need for $41.9 million in renovations just to make the track safe for drivers and fans, and to bring it up to modern NASCAR standards.
Speedway Motorsports, which owns both the Nashville Superspeedway and Bristol Motor Speedway, has signed a deal with Mayor John Cooper to renovate the track. The plan involves Nashville issuing $50 million in bonds, with Bristol responsible for renovations, upkeep, and signing a 30-year lease and management contract. The plan must be approved by the Nashville City Council. The length of time it takes for the plan to be approved is a concern as the city is racing a clock to finalize before the end of the mayor's term and the seating of a new city council.
Daily Wire: Pro-Life Professor Breaks Down Why Supreme Court Didn’t Go Far Enough When It Overturned ‘Roe’
Pro-life Americans fear that the Supreme Court's 2021 ruling overturning Roe v. Wade didn't go far enough. Some, like Hadley Arkes, the Edward N. Ney Professor of Jurisprudence and American Institutions, Emeritus at Amherst College, believe that the Court should have weighed in on the "moral substance of the case" by recognizing the human standing of the child in the womb. Arkes argues that the Roe decision altered American morals, while Dobbs will have no such effect. He suggests that Republican politicians and conservative judges might need to take a stronger stance in the future to affirm the "human standing of the child in the womb."
Breitbart: Early State Drama: New Hampshire Federation of Republican Women Blasts DeSantis
The New Hampshire Federation of Republican Women expressed disappointment in Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for scheduling an event in the state on the same day as their Lilac Luncheon, which features former President Donald Trump as the special guest. The NHFRW, which hosts the "preeminent fundraiser" for New Hampshire's local offices, expressed dissatisfaction with DeSantis's decision to host a town hall on the same day, saying that it "diminishes the efforts" of the Republican women in New Hampshire. Although NHFRW claimed to be neutral in the primaries, a former PR chair resigned after taking issue with the neutrality policy violation in the statement against DeSantis.
The New American: SCOTUS Opinion in Redistricting Case: Unconstitutional and Unnecessary - The New American
The U.S. Supreme Court has been accused of overstepping its authority by granting state courts power. In a 6-3 decision in Moore v. Harper, the court took power granted exclusively to state legislatures under the U.S. Constitution's Elections Clause and gave it to state courts. Critics argue that the clause vests exclusive authority in state legislatures to set the rules regarding federal elections and nowhere says "state judiciary."
Red State: EXPOSED: Homeland Security Tried to Conceal Efforts to Censor Americans on Social Media
The House Judiciary Committee exposes collusion between federal agencies and Big Tech to censor certain perspectives and cover up the wrongdoing. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) expands its scope and censorship operations on social media with a focus on mis-, dis-, and malinformation. CISA outsourced its censorship operations to a CISA-funded non-profit after facing legal challenges, implicitly admitting that its censorship activities are unconstitutional. CISA’s actions raise concerns about free speech, potentially leading to the suppression of dissenting views, restricting diversity of ideas, and undermining democracy. Government-induced censorship can have a chilling effect on free speech and accountability and transparency. The investigation is ongoing.
Breitbart: GOP Rep. Perry: Potential Special Counsel for Alleged Hunter Biden Wrongdoing Like a 'Fox Guarding the Hen House'
Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) criticized the Department of Justice’s handling of the investigation into Hunter Biden during an appearance on FBN’s “Mornings with Maria.” Chairman James Comer refused to have the DOJ appoint a special counsel due to fears that Merrick Garland would have too much power over the investigation. Perry said that appointing a special counsel would be like the “fox guarding the hen house.” He also accused the DOJ's upper echelons of being untruthful.

Newsbusters: When Virtue Signalers Become Virtue Flaunters
Gillette's advertising towards the "woke" movement accusing American men of promoting bullying towards young people led to a boycott. Gillette's loss of popularity as a result of its allegations led to their being subverted by the "woke" movement. Foreign Policy: Russia’s Periphery Takes Note of Putin’s Sudden Weakness
Russia faced a mutiny from the Wagner Group that has raised questions about Vladimir Putin's leadership. Forbes: Best REITS For Reliable Income For 2023
REITs, which own and finance real estate, may see an upturn in 2023. While the last year has not been kind to REITs, strong balance sheets, low stock prices, and historically low leverage could make them a wise investment. Advocacy group Nareit reports that most REITs also pay generous cash investment income, with yields ranging from 4.48% to 10.8%. However, Fitch's REIT outlook is more tempered due to potential recessionary conditions, higher capital costs, and waning demand in some sectors. Investors looking to invest in REITs should define their sweet spot on the yield-reliability spectrum, choose REITs with long histories of reliable dividend payments, and hold a balanced portfolio of high-yield REITs alongside traditional stocks and fixed-income positions.
The New American: Biden Announces High-speed Internet for All by 2030 - The New American
President Biden announced a $42 billion investment to expand high-speed internet access to all Americans by 2030. The funding is part of the "Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program" and will be administered by the Department of Commerce as grant programs in each state. The allocation of funds ranges from $27 million to over $3.3 billion, with the top ten allocations in Alabama, California, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. Despite the difficulties in achieving this goal, Biden used the announcement as a campaign speech, touting "Bidenomics" and his vision of building the economy from the middle out and bottom up instead of top down.

Carlishia Hood and her 14-year-old son were originally charged with first-degree murder in Chicago after Hood’s son shot Jerome Brown outside of a restaurant. However, all charges were dropped against them after a video went viral, showing Brown punching Hood repeatedly in the head. Hood’s son then entered the restaurant and shot Brown in the back with a legal firearm. Prosecutors alleged that Hood urged her son to continue firing at Brown even after he had fled, and also to shoot Brown’s girlfriend who had been egging him on during the confrontation. However, when the video was released, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx dropped all charges, leading Hood to sue the city of Chicago and five police officers for wrongful prosecution.
