The Corner: Presidential Candidates Ought to Do Their Homework
Miami mayor and presidential candidate Francis Suarez struggles to understand radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt’s question about the Chinese government's genocide of the Uyghur ethnic group. Hewitt is known for exposing blind spots in aspiring presidents' familiarity with world issues. Suarez's lack of knowledge is reminiscent of Gary Johnson's unfamiliarity with Aleppo during the 2016 presidential campaign. It is important for presidential candidates to do their homework and have knowledge about important world events.

Republicans continue to investigate alleged influence peddling by the Biden family around the world, including in China and Ukraine.

House Judiciary Comm Republicans Getting Serious: Impeachment Calls Against AG Garland Gain Traction
Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee are calling for an impeachment inquiry into Attorney General Merrick Garland over allegations related to politicization of the Hunter Biden tax probe. Support for the inquiry is growing after IRS whistleblowers testified before Congress about the Department of Justice obstructing United States Attorney David Weiss from bringing stronger charges against Hunter Biden in two separate locations. The whistleblowers allege that Garland rejected a request to appoint a special counsel to create a level of separation between the DOJ and President Joe Biden. Garland denies any political interference, but if the allegations are verified the Republicans seek impeachment.

SCOTUS Rules Against GOP State Legislature In Key Election Law Case
SCOTUS ruled against a Republican-drawn congressional map in North Carolina; the decision gives power to federal courts to review state supreme court decisions regarding congressional maps' compliance with state election laws. Roberts argued that the Court had authority to hear the case because the only path for the GOP petitioners to be relieved is if SCOTUS overturned the state supreme court's first decision on the matter, which was only partially overturned after Republicans took over the Tar Heel State's high court. Kavanaugh argued that federal courts should be limited in their jurisdiction to review state redistricting cases.

Poland: From Socialism to Prosperity
Poland's transition from socialism to capitalism is highlighted in a new film. The film shows how waiting in line was a science in socialist Poland, with one system called the "line list". Since 1989, Poland's GDP per capita has increased threefold and the country's economy grew to be the sixth-largest in the European Community. Although Poland's relative economic freedom is under threat due to surging social welfare program spending and halted privatizations, Poland's success story should not be overlooked. GDP per capita in 1989 was only 30% of the corresponding figure in the US, but had risen to 48% of the US level by 2016.

Breitbart: Senate Armed Services Committee Considers Giveaway for Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin in NDAA
Senate Armed Services Committee Considers Giveaway for Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin in NDAA
The U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee is proposing to add a giveaway to Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin spaceflight company in the 2024 National Defense Authorization Agreement, despite opposition by the U.S. Air Force. The federal government previously relaxed spaceflight procurement standards to help Blue Origin qualify for contracts, even though it has not yet launched. The Air Force has stated it wants the government to select only two providers for the national-security sensitive Lane 2, but the Senate is considering allowing for more than two contractors to service the lane. This has been warned against by the national security community for its potential danger to taxpayers and national security.

Congress is seeking to undercut the concerns of NASA and the Space Force by adding a Bezos bailout in the NDAA. Blue Origin has obtained hundreds of millions from government agencies despite never exceeding low-earth orbit. The Senate's addition to the NDAA comes despite opposition from the Air Force and its recommendation that the government select only two providers for the national-security sensitive Lane 2. U.S. Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall said he approved the Air Force's strategy for its balanced approach, which allows new entrants in but also gives assured access for higher risk missions.

Pro-Abortion AMA Says Body Mass Index Is Bad Because Racism
The American Medical Association has passed a new policy criticizing the use of Body Mass Index (BMI) as an indicator of metabolic health. The policy claims that the current index "does not appropriately represent racial and ethnic minorities," and cites BMI's history with eugenics and racist exclusion. While the AMA acknowledges BMI's limitations, it remains "a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people," according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The AMA recommends physicians use alternative indicators of health in their assessments and treatment of individual patients.
