The Epoch Times: White House Responds to McCarthy Floating Garland Impeachment Inquiry
White House Responds to McCarthy Floating Garland Impeachment Inquiry
The White House has responded to talk of impeachment proceedings against Attorney General Merrick Garland by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). The White House reiterates that President Joe Biden respects the Department of Justice's independence and is focusing on things like the economy and other issues that are the priorities of the American people. McCarthy announced that if whistleblower allegations were true, there needs to be an impeachment inquiry into Garland's alleged "weaponization of the DOJ." He sent a tweet on the issue Sunday, including a letter with details about the testimony from IRS Whistleblower Gary Shapley.

The Epoch Times: Free Speech Takes a Backseat as Musk's Twitter Threatened With $700,000 Daily Fines
Free Speech Takes a Backseat as Musk's Twitter Threatened With $700,000 Daily Fines
Australia's e-Safety commissioner is threatening Twitter with $700,000 daily fines if it doesn't deal with "hate" speech. At the same time, Australia's government is contemplating new laws to empower another authority to issue millions more in fines to deal with "misinformation." The accusation was deemed "hate" speech when star rugby player Israel Folau had his contract cancelled for repeating a Bible verse on social media.

When we have authorities giving Twitter 28 days to respond to a request to show what they are doing to keep Australia safe from online "hate," it is time to ask who is controlling the controller. If people want to engage in the social media sewer, can we simply say they do so at their own peril? What Australians need to be protected from is not a few nutbags on social media peddling what most would consider dubious and highly ugly material, but from a government that in the name of protecting the people, is stripping away the fundamental human right to free speech.

'Give Us Pizza or Give Us Death': New Yorker Throws Pizza at City Hall
A New Yorker, Scott LoBaido, threw pizzas at City Hall to protest a law which requires pizzerias with coal or wood-burning ovens to reduce carbon emissions by 75% or face fines. LoBaido criticized the city for focusing on pizzerias, but allowing nude LGBTQ pride parades and not combating violent crime or illegal immigration. Iconic pizzerias like Lombardo's and Arturo's could be affected while restaurateurs call the rule an "unfunded mandate" that will drastically affect their product's taste.

The Epoch Times: Australian PM Is Confident of Winning Vote to Change Constitution Despite Falling Public Support
Australian PM Is Confident of Winning Vote to Change Constitution Despite Falling Public Support
Advocacy groups are preparing to launch "Yes" campaigns across Australia to encourage Australians to back the Indigenous Voice to Parliament; an initiative by the Labor federal government to embed a permanent body into the Constitution to advise Parliament and the government on issues affecting Indigenous people. However, new polling shows a decline in public support for the initiative; 43 percent of respondents said they would vote "Yes", down from 46 percent in the previous polling, while those who disapprove of the initiative rose from 43 to 47 percent. Prime Minister Albanese remains confident of success despite the decline in support.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has warned of significant risks associated with the changes to Australia’s Constitution, calling for the Labor government to cancel the referendum to avoid setting back reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. The Yes campaign plans to launch a fund to support community groups to run activities and forums to convince Australians to vote "Yes." The campaign is expected to organise thousands of events before the referendum is held. Prime Minister Albanese, however, believes that Australians will change their attitude when the pro-Voice campaign takes off, stating that he is "very confident that Australians will embrace that opportunity to say 'yes' in the referendum in the last quarter of this year."

Forbes: Who Is Buying All Those Hard Seltzers? These Are The Key Demographics Of Canned Cocktails
Who Is Buying All Those Hard Seltzers? These Are The Key Demographics Of Canned Cocktails
New research from CGA’s On Premise User Survey shows that the average RTD drinker is young, with an average annual salary of $83,000 and 75% of RTD consumers dine out weekly. Both genders enjoy the category, though women (52%) slightly more than men (48%), and vodka is the most popular spirit. Convenience and value are the main drivers, rather than health considerations. On-premise channels show potential for RTD beverages, with 17% of American drinkers consuming RTD beverages in bars, pubs, and restaurants in the last three months, but only 20% look at alcohol content, and a tiny minority consider calories at all.

Bud Light recently fell behind Modelo as America's number one beer after partnering with transgender TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney. Anheuser-Busch has lost sight of its customers, according to Anson Frericks, who previously served as president of sales and distribution at the company.

The Epoch Times: ANALYSIS: Chinese Premier Visits Europe as EU Proposes Economic Security Strategy
ANALYSIS: Chinese Premier Visits Europe as EU Proposes Economic Security Strategy
Chinese Premier Li Qiang visited Germany and France in his first diplomatic trip overseas, seeking to ease the trade confrontation between China and liberal democracies. However, Li's visit coincided with the release of the European Union's proposed new economic security strategy, which aims to convince EU member states to tighten controls on technology exports that could be used for military purposes by rivals, namely China. EU diplomats say it may take months of debate before the strategy becomes concrete policy. The EU's strategy comes after three years of CCP's draconian zero-COVID policies and aims to prevent authoritarian states from stealing sensitive technologies, including AI and microchips, and using them in the military sphere.
