The Corner: NBC Poll: DeSantis Leads Biden by Six Points in Swing States, But Trump Trails by Two
Ron DeSantis leads Joe Biden by six points in swing states, while Trump trails Biden by two points. Nationwide, DeSantis and Biden are tied at 47 percent in a head-to-head matchup, while Biden leads Trump 49 percent to 45 percent. The good news for Biden is that the weaker general-election candidate, Trump, has seen his lead grow over DeSantis among GOP primary voters nationwide.

DeSantis Lands Endorsement of Florida's Largest Police Union After Group Backed Trump in 2020
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has received an endorsement from the Florida Police Benevolent Association, the state's largest police union, for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. The union praised DeSantis' investment in and support for law enforcement officers and his administration's allocation of funding to increase salaries in law enforcement and combat the spread of fentanyl. DeSantis is running for president against his predecessor Donald Trump, who has also received significant public endorsements for the Republican nomination.

Daily Wire: McCarthy Threatens AG Garland With Impeachment If Whistleblower Allegations Are True
McCarthy Threatens AG Garland With Impeachment If Whistleblower Allegations Are True
House Republicans are considering impeaching Attorney General Merrick Garland after whistleblower testimony alleged that he interfered in a criminal investigation to protect the Biden family. The allegations made against Garland includes blocking indictments against Hunter Biden and denying a request for special counsel protection. If proven true, this will be part of a larger impeachment inquiry into Garland’s “weaponization” of the Department of Justice. White House counsel’s office spokesman, Ian Sams, responded by accusing Republicans of having no positive agenda and wanting to distract from their own plans to give tax cuts to the wealthy and add to the deficit. In response to the allegations, Garland denied them and said that Weiss was given full authority to bring charges in any jurisdiction he chose. House Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan raised the prospect of impeaching the president if the whistleblower allegations are verified.

National Review: The Corner: Democratic Senator Admits He Opposes Any Legal Limit on Abortion before a Baby’s Due Date
The Corner: Democratic Senator Admits He Opposes Any Legal Limit on Abortion before a Baby’s Due Date
Democrats support unlimited abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, with no limits even up to the due date. This view is shared by every Democrat but one in the Senate and one in the House who back the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA). The WHPA creates an absolute right to abortion through the first five to six months of pregnancy, and it mandates legal abortion after viability until birth whenever a lone health-care provider determines that the continuation of the pregnancy “would pose a risk” to the patient’s life or “health.”

Red State: WATCH: New Yorker Lets City Have It in Memorable Protest Against Ridiculous Rules on Pizza Ovens
WATCH: New Yorker Lets City Have It in Memorable Protest Against Ridiculous Rules on Pizza Ovens
NYC is demanding that restaurants with coal and wood-fired pizza ovens install expensive emission control devices to reduce carbon emissions by 75% as a response to climate change. Elon Musk called this out, and one citizen threw a "New York Pizza Party" to send a message to City Hall. Scott LoBaido criticised city officials on their priorities and threw pieces of pizza over the gates at City Hall. He received a summons for his actions, which was ironic considering that the recent Pride event allowed naked people in front of children. Social media cheered LoBaido's actions, and a Brooklyn pizza joint thanked him.

PJ Media: McCarthy Sets Date for Possible Impeachment Hearings Against Merrick Garland
McCarthy Sets Date for Possible Impeachment Hearings Against Merrick Garland
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy suggested that the House GOP could initiate an impeachment inquiry against Attorney General Merrick Garland based on discrepancies between IRS whistleblower claims that U.S. Attorney David Weiss wanted to appoint a special counsel for the DOJ’s investigation into Hunter Biden and Garland's claim that Weiss had “complete authority to make all decisions on his own.” McCarthy stated that if the whistleblowers' allegations were true, it would be a significant part of a larger impeachment inquiry into Garland’s weaponization of DOJ. McCarthy has given a date for when the impeachment inquiry could begin.

IRS whistleblower Gary A. Shapley Jr. claims that U.S. Attorney David Weiss said he couldn’t press charges against Hunter Biden in Washington, D.C., without the approval of the U.S. attorney in that jurisdiction, and named six witnesses to Weiss’s claim during an October meeting. Weiss and Garland, however, claim that Weiss had “complete authority to make all decisions on his own.” Shapley has no explanation for why Weiss would make these statements if they weren’t true, and his legal team argues that since his statement can be corroborated, “it is up to [Weiss] and the Justice Department to reconcile the evidence of his October 7, 2022 statements with contrary statements by Mr. Weiss and the Attorney General to Congress.”

Karine Jean-Pierre dodges question alluding to Hunter Biden’s attendance at White House state dinner
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about the administration's policy on family members attending state dinners, alluding to Hunter Biden's recent attendance just after pleading guilty to two counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax. The reporter asked about any guardrails put in place, but Jean-Pierre refused to engage the question due to it being tied to an ongoing Department of Justice investigation. The White House has strict rules on ethics, but Jean-Pierre did not comment on whether any specific guardrails were in place for the president's family.

The Epoch Times: Disney Continues Decline at the Box Office as Flagship Films Plummet
Disney Continues Decline at the Box Office as Flagship Films Plummet
Disney has reportedly lost $890 million on its last eight films, including The Little Mermaid and Elemental. Elemental has become the lowest-grossing debut ever for Pixar, earning an estimated $29.5 million over its opening weekend – less than the $31 million in domestic sales that box office experts had predicted. The film is set in the fictional world of Element City, where “the peoples of fire, water, earth, and air live together” and features Pixar’s first-ever non-binary character in a theatrically released movie. Analyst Valliant Renegade claimed Disney could face up to $1bn in losses, as it’s known that these same titles will go to the Disney+ streaming service rather than top streamers such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, where more revenue would be possible.

Disney faces other financial problems, with current CEO Bob Iger working on eliminating $5.5 billion in spending through the layoff of some 7,000 workers globally. Those layoffs occurred after a bleak 2022, when Disney’s stock plummeted 44% – its worst year in five decades. The company’s former CEO, Bob Chapek, was abruptly fired in November 2022 after his last quarterly report. All of this comes amidst increasing controversy about transgenderism, critical race theory, and other forms of “woke” politics in its entertainment aimed at children. This has led many lifelong fans to criticize what used to be a traditional family-friendly brand.

The Epoch Times: Biden on Wagner Mutiny: 'We Were Not Involved'
Biden on Wagner Mutiny: 'We Were Not Involved'
President Biden confirms that the US and its allies had no involvement in the recent mutiny carried out by Yevgeny Prigozhin and his private Russian army known as the Wagner Group. The president was keen to ensure that Putin did not blame the West or NATO for the uprising. Biden has previously blamed Putin for the “illegal war” in Ukraine. Prigozhin and his troops launched an insurrection in Russia on June 23, claiming their actions were necessary to prevent the destruction of the Wagner private military company. Putin denounced Prigozhin as a traitor and pledged to put down the rebellion, but the incident ended peacefully with Prigozhin retiring to Belarus, and Wagner fighters returning to their bases with no punishment.

It is unclear what effect the mutiny will have on Russia, with Kirby saying it is too soon to assess the situation in the country. The location of the Wagner forces is unknown. Putin blamed the mutiny on “Russia’s enemies.” Biden has reassured Ukrainian President Zelenskyy of ongoing US support and will keep the country’s allies and partners closely aligned in responding to the situation. Despite the mutiny being a challenge to Putin’s leadership, a peaceful resolution was reached. The Wagner Group is believed to have undertaken other military operations on behalf of Russia in Syria, Libya, the Central African Republic, and Mali.

Actor claims he delayed getting COVID-19 vaccine because science began to ‘sound like a religion’
English actor Mark Rylance expressed skepticism towards getting the COVID-19 vaccine, stating that the dogmatic nature of politics amid the pandemic made him more skeptical of established medical science. Rylance co-wrote and stars in the play "Dr Semmelweis," which portrays a Hungarian doctor ignored by the Viennese medical establishment despite being right about germ transmission. Rylance also blamed NATO for the war in Ukraine and argued that Russia has never been thanked enough for its sacrifices in World War II.

The American Mind: Canon Fodder
Canon Fodder
: Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of Wagner Group mercenary army and close Putin associate, seized Rostov and led an armored column to Moscow, demanding changes to Russia's military leadership. He negotiated a surrender deal, taking refuge in Belarus. American experts predicted Russia would lose to Ukraine and go into civil war. Ukrainian nationalists focused on erasing any mention of Russia in American academia through "decolonization" of Slavic departments and labeling Russian artworks as Ukrainian. Slavic departments are the last holdouts of humanist liberal arts education in the U.S., and should be a model for classical education restoration.

Trudeau discusses China's potential threat to Arctic sovereignty, including military use, natural resources, exploration, and drilling platforms with Nordic leaders during visit to Iceland. Experts warn that Beijing could challenge Canada's Arctic sovereignty in the next few years and Canada's ability to detect foreign incursions in its Arctic territories through its current warning system is limited. Canada is investing in multi-billion dollar upgrades to its Arctic defence and NORAD equipment to enhance surveillance and early warning threats to the continent.

The Imaginative Conservative: Virtue, Happiness, and Purpose
Virtue, Happiness, and Purpose
Fr. Basil Cole's new book, Angelic Virtues and Demonic Vices, explores the traditional Christian approach to ethics and morality, which differs from the dominant consequentialist and deontological approaches. Christianity emphasizes becoming the right sort of person and cultivating intrinsic moral character through the virtues. This approach emphasizes personal excellence and teleology, or purpose in nature, and frees us from a mechanistic system of rule-following. Ultimately, virtues serve a larger purpose by building us up and making us fit for heaven, which is the human quest for happiness.

There Is No Short Path Back to Institutional Credibility
The scientific community has lost credibility due to their promotion of political nonsense, resulting in distrust from the public. Dr. Peter Hotez recently declined to debate Robert F. Hotez argues that his credentials excuse him from defending his case publicly, but scientists must wade back into the arena to earn the trust of the public.

Bryan Kohberger case: State to seek death penalty against Idaho murders suspect
Idaho prosecutors seek death penalty for Bryan Kohberger, accused of killing four University of Idaho students in Nov. 2022. Defense claims suspect has no connection to the victims.

Details reveal DNA evidence from a knife sheath found near one victim's body led authorities to believe Kohberger was the killer. Along with the four first-degree murder charges, Kohberger also faces one count of burglary. Held without bail since his arrest in Dec. 2022, his trial is set to begin on Oct. 2.

Christine Dawood's husband and son were among five killed when the submersible carrying them to view the Titanic wreckage imploded after losing contact with the surface during an international research mission. The vessel had been missing for four days before debris from the submersible was located 1,600 feet from the Titanic shipwreck on the seabed. Dawood said she had "loads of hope" during the search but had lost all hope when they passed the 96-hour mark, as her 17-year-old daughter, Alina, remained hopeful until the call with the US Coast Guard about finding debris. Shahzada and Suleman Dawood had wanted to go down to the Titanic for a long time and the earlier trip they were due to take with Christine was cancelled due to the pandemic. The investigation into the June 18 event is progressing, and memorials and funeral services for the five killed are expected to occur soon.

Forbes: Author Post: Some People Just Do
Author Post: Some People Just Do
Believing in oneself is the key to success. Having a bias for action is what enables ordinary people to make an extraordinary difference. Overcoming fear starts with acting on natural curiosity and committing to learning new things. Leaders face fear and embarrassment, and take risks because they believe in themselves. Doing can be hard and courageous, but leaders say “Let’s try something new” even when people say it can’t work. They learn to trust themselves over time and understand that accomplishing change means taking risks.
