The Epoch Times: Deepen Every Relationship With This One Skill
Deepen Every Relationship With This One Skill
The pandemic exacerbated a trend of declining social skills due to increased online communication. Research showed a decline in the ability to build relationships, cooperate, and exercise patience in a survey of college students in Japan. Sharpening listening skills is an effective way to improve communication and connection with others. Active listening involves giving full attention to the person speaking and valuing their thoughts, strengthening relationships and building trust. Multitasking during conversations, especially with electronic devices, significantly impairs listening skills. Slowing down and focusing on the speaker's main points, summarizing their points, and responding appropriately can improve communication and show care and respect for the person.

Trudeau Off to Iceland to Meet Nordic Leaders Ahead of NATO Summit
Trudeau travels to Iceland to meet with Nordic leaders ahead of NATO summit. The meeting will discuss common interests such as protecting the environment while tackling security challenges. Meanwhile, world leaders keep a watchful eye on internal strife in Russia after mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin led troops from his private Wagner Group in an armed rebellion and called for the ouster of the country's defense minister. The arrangement will see Putin's one-time protege move to Belarus and avoid prosecution for his role in the short-lived rebellion, while Wagner Group troops will return to Ukraine where they've been fighting alongside soldiers from the Russian army.

'We're having a fetus!' Pro-life ad campaign challenges perception of unborn babies
Focus on the Family has launched the "It's a Baby" campaign, which challenges the use of the term "fetus" to describe preborn babies. The ad depicts different scenarios in which couples refer to the baby as a "fetus," before their daughter corrects them, saying "Um, it's a baby." The campaign comes just ahead of the first anniversary of the Dobbs v Jackson Women's Health Supreme Court decision, which effectively overturned the nearly 50-year precedent of Roe v. Wade. The group has received widespread support from pro-life activists.

Forbes: Celtic FC’s New Boss Already On The Back Foot For Past Sins
Celtic FC’s New Boss Already On The Back Foot For Past Sins
Celtic fans are wary of their newly re-appointed manager Brendan Rodgers, who abandoned the club in 2019 while on track to win a historic tenth Scottish Premier League title in a row for mid-table English club Leicester City. The Green Brigade fan group posted a banner on social media denouncing the Northern Irishman. Rodgers acknowledged the challenge of regaining the support of some segments of the Celtic fanbase but said that he would be at the club for three years unless he was fired. His fortunes are hence hinged on his ability to win the league title and keep fans content.

Rodgers sought to address negative perceptions of himself among Celtic fans after being re-appointed as the team’s manager by pledging to stay at the club for three years. Fan group the Green Brigade had viewed the return of the Northern Irishman with suspicion. He had walked out on the team four years prior in pursuit of a “professional judgment” with Leicester City. While acknowledging criticism, Rodgers noted that former Celtic players had not apologised for their departures and questioned fans’ demands that managers be exempt from such controversy. Nonetheless, his effectiveness now hinges on his ability to win the league trophy and lift the discontent of some of the fanbase that felt betrayed by his departure.

Forbes: Democracies Around The World Must Fight For Vladimir Kara-Murza
Democracies Around The World Must Fight For Vladimir Kara-Murza
Russian opposition activist Vladimir Kara-Murza has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for criticizing Putin’s regime and its war on Ukraine. His health is rapidly deteriorating due to mistreatment, and he urgently requires medical attention, which is unlikely due to the regime’s past attempts to poison him. Targeted sanctions against Russian judges and prosecutors are being imposed, but more coordination and joint efforts between countries are needed to ensure justice and accountability for human rights violations. Lord Alton of Liverpool has introduced an amendment to give the sanctions regime proper teeth and to deal with dirty money, aiming to criminalize the failure of designated individuals to declare any assets they control in the U.K. and enable asset recovery under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
