Spectator USA: How the Ukraine war remade our world
Russia invaded Ukraine, turning proxy war into direct conflict. Despite receiving more military aid, Ukraine may be doomed in war of attrition. The West can't abandon its clients but victory seems unlikely. Biden has resisted escalation, raising questions of when the final choice between wider war and Ukrainian defeat will become too obvious for even the most optimistic Westerner to ignore. Revolutionizing US policy to withdraw support from Ukraine would end the war but is unlikely. Dissecting Ukraine won't make Russia a greater power. War has a logic of its own, and America's hegemony is facing an end.

Fox News: Gov. DeSantis signs death warrant for man convicted of 'brutal and ruthless' 1988 rape, murder of nurse
Florida Governor DeSantis has signed a death warrant for James Phillip Barnes scheduled on Aug. 3 for the 1988 rape and murder of nurse Patricia "Patsy" Miller. Barnes, who confessed to the crime is already serving a life sentence for his wife's murder in 1997. Barnes broke into Miller's condo, raped her twice, and strangled her with a belt before striking her in the head with a hammer and tying her to the bed, which he then set on fire. Barnes' signature expands the law that the previous Governor passed for convicted child rapists.
