In France, a Cegos study shows that a significant number of employees are hesitant to take on managerial roles, with 56% of HR managers observing this trend. This is starkly higher than the 36% refusal rate found in other countries.

The reasons are clear. There is a negative view of entry-level managers, along with a rigid hierarchical management style that discourages ambition. 

Moreover, the heavy workload that comes with management is daunting. Sixty-seven percent of managers report longer hours, and in France, that figure climbs to 77%. A lack of supportive work culture and the belief that long hours do not warrant proper compensation only deepen the reluctance to pursue these positions.
