Red State: Putin's War, Week 69. As CNN Reports the Ukrainians Have Stalled the First Breakthrough Happens
Western officials and a senior US military official claim that the Ukrainian counteroffensive is having less success and Russian forces are showing more competence than expected. However, the West remains optimistic longer term . US Congress is showing leadership in setting the conditions for a Ukrainian military victory with several bills focused on defeating Russia, including confiscating $350 billion in frozen Russian assets and designating the Wagner Group PMC as a terrorist organization. Russia is claiming that Ukraine's demilitarization goal has been "largely fulfilled." Putin's war has affected the Russian Army and may have lost most of a generation of young men due to war and emigration . The Ukrainian Army is advancing steadily on two primary axes of advance, with a secondary attack forming west of the main attack. Russian tactical behavior has changed, and any Ukrainian advance is met with an immediate counterattack. The Russian military attacked rescuers in a blatant violation of the Geneva Convention. The Ukrainians are being accused of producing disease-laden mosquitoes, which is likely a

The Epoch Times: Temu’s Supply Chains in China Could Be Using Forced Labor: Report
An interim report by the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party reveals that Chinese online retailer Temu has exposed American consumers to forced labor-made products. Not having any system to ensure compliance with the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, the firm has contaminated its supply chains with forced labor. Temu's presence in the U.S. market increases the risk that its shipments contain forced labor products, the report warns. The company disputes the claims and dismisses concerns since Chinese sellers, not Temu, ship the goods directly to U.S. consumers. Over 685 million products entered the U.S. under "de minimis" in 2022, the report also states, with Temu and another Chinese retailer, Shein, accounting for over 30%. The loophole is being abused at the detriment of American firms, per Rep. Mike Gallagher. The report recommends transparency by companies profiting from CCP forced labor to end such practices, while campaigns and legislation have been introduced to close the trade loophole allowing forced labor-made products to penetrate the U.S. market.
The Blaze: Breaking: House spending bill bars EcoHealth Alliance and the Wuhan lab from receiving USAID funds
Lawmakers introduced legislation to bar EcoHealth Alliance and the Wuhan Institute of Virology from receiving funds from the US Agency for International Development as well as other financial streams linking back to the Department of State. The White Coat Waste Project revealed federal documents, indicating that EHA administered at least $38 million in USAID funds to a project on which one of the Wuhan Institute of Virology's 'patients zero' was listed as 'investigator'. This legislation comes after similar efforts in recent months to block funding to EHA and labs run by America's foes.
Extra to this latest effort to preclude EHA from taking more taxpayer money, Iowa Senator Joni Ernst is set to offer amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act to ensure that no defense dollars ever go to the Wuhan Institute of Virology and to conduct an independent investigation to determine if EcoHealth diverted any US Defense dollars into the Wuhan Institute or any other Chinese lab creating enhanced pathogens of pandemic potential.

The Milwaukee Bucks focused on wings with length during the 2023 NBA Draft, selecting Andre Jackson Jr. with the 36th overall pick and Chris Livingston with the 58th pick. Jackson Jr. has a high basketball IQ and makes up for his lack of outside shooting with athleticism and a non-stop motor, while Livingston possesses physical pedigree but has work to do on the offensive side of the ball. The Bucks also added wing prospect Omari Moore on a two-way contract. The team hopes one of these players can answer questions on the wing in the future.

Backpacker: Can I Poach a Reserved Campsite That No One Has Shown Up To?
Backpacker receives a letter from a hiker who didn't reserve a campsite at an alpine hot spring and asks if it's okay to claim an empty, reserved site. In response, Backpacker explains that while permits and reservations help control visitation numbers and minimize impact on the environment, camping on an empty site is better for the landscape than creating your own site. The letter writer may have been doing the environment a favor and should feel free to use the empty site, although they should be prepared to move if the rightful owners arrive.

National Review: The Corner: Ghastly Trinkets
Europe's luxury goods business is enduringly successful, with many markets outside Europe. Despite criticism of ghastly products, it is not immoral and all economies have comparative advantages. Europe's economy doesn't need to build a Silicon Riviera or neglect its own expertises in luxury goods. Meanwhile, some countries consider European luxury goods valuable and want to buy them, marking a marker of their personal freedom. An economy based on want has been more successful than those based on need.
