Fox News: DeSantis to unveil plan to secure the southern border as 2024 campaign heats up
DeSantis to unveil plan to secure the southern border as 2024 campaign heats up
Ron DeSantis will unveil his plan to secure the Southern border in Eagle Pass, Texas, one of the most overcrowded parts of the U.S.-Mexico border. The governor, a hardliner on illegal immigration, has promised to declare a national emergency and shut down the border, as well as restoring the "Remain-in-Mexico" policy if elected in 2024. The rollout follows a recent visit to the border and the creation of a coalition of 90 sheriffs to protect communities from the consequences of the border crisis.

Ban on Encouraging Illegal Immigration Not Unconstitutional: Supreme Court
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that a law that bars encouraging illegal immigration for advantage or gain is lawful. The law prohibits encouraging or inducing illegal immigration for “commercial advantage or private financial gain.” The case was brought to the court by the government relating to a man who sold memberships to a “migration program” that falsely promised people they could become U.S. citizens.

Fox News: Obama calls out ‘obscene inequality’ in news coverage of OceanGate sub tragedy and sinking of migrant ship
Obama calls out ‘obscene inequality’ in news coverage of OceanGate sub tragedy and sinking of migrant ship
Former President Barack Obama criticized the media coverage of the tragedy of the OceanGate Titan submersible versus the migrant boat that sank off the coast of Greece last week. He called out the double standard and inequality in our democracy, claiming that the fact that news of the missing OceanGate sub dominated the news cycle, while the sinking of a migrant boat in the Mediterranean Sea did not, is an example of this "inequality." Obama noted that "democracy is not going to be healthy" due to this type of "obscene inequality."

The other tragedy Obama mentioned was the capsizing of a migrant boat off the coast of Greece last week that most likely resulted in hundreds of deaths. The boat carrying around 750 migrants was mid-route from Libya to Italy when the ship sank, with only around one hundred passengers being rescued. Obama condemned the disparate amount of media coverage between the two events, and claimed that this situation highlights the degree to which people's life chances have grown so disparate.

BRACE yourself: Biden claims you can turn a pistol brace into a gun!
Joe Biden displayed a lack of knowledge about guns at the National Safer Community Summit in Connecticut. He repeated calls for stricter gun control laws, including holding manufacturers accountable and a ban on "assault rifles," but also made the claim that adding a plastic brace to a pistol turns it into a gun and changes the caliber of the bullet. Guest Eric July and host Sara Gonzales of "The News & Why It Matters" were shocked and questioned whether Biden and his supporters are intentionally spreading lies or simply uneducated about the topic.

Fox News: Trump-era immigration judge fired by Biden's DOJ claims 'politics' is only the explanation
Trump-era immigration judge fired by Biden's DOJ claims 'politics' is only the explanation
Federal immigration judge Edwin Pieters believes he was fired by President Biden's Department of Justice due to his affiliation with former President Trump. Pieters served with satisfactory remarks for two years and was on track to be converted to a permanent role after his two-year probationary period, but he received a letter on his termination citing his "performance and conduct." Pieters, a Trump appointee, believes politics was at play in his termination. The Justice Department declined to comment on the personnel changes.

Pieters' exit comes amid the ongoing border crisis and a surging number of pending immigration cases, with approximately 16.8 million estimated illegal immigrants in the US, up from 15.5 million in January 2022. Pieters' termination was preceded by a complaint regarding his personal tweets, but the judge rejected it, pointing to his decision record. Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, called on the Biden administration to "surge" immigration judges to the U.S.-Mexico border as an alternative to releasing migrants following Title 42's expiration. The crisis continues to surge, with pending cases climbing to 2,097,244 across the US.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein Turns 90; CNN Absolutely Incinerates Her
CNN has published a lengthy piece on Senator Dianne Feinstein turning 90 and on her poor state of health, with many California House members sharing frustrations on her lack of engagement with their most pressing issues. In March, Feinstein suffered from shingles and encephalitis, causing long-term memory or language problems, sleep disorders, confusion, mood disorders, and difficulties walking. The Inside California Politics/Emerson College survey found that a majority think that the senator should resign and only 22% approve of her job performance so far. Governor Gavin Newsom has reportedly opened a "soft inquiry" to fill Feinstein's seat if she were to retire before the end of her term in 2025.

The New American: Supreme Court to Rule in Gerrymandering Case by June 30 - The New American
Supreme Court to Rule in Gerrymandering Case by June 30 - The New American
The Supreme Court will soon issue a ruling in Moore v. Harper, a case centered around the question of whether state legislatures have power to regulate federal elections. The case began in North Carolina in 2021 over a redistricting plan allegedly gerrymandered by Republicans, which Democrats claimed gave the GOP unfair advantage. The Democrat-controlled state Supreme Court agreed with Democrats but was later reversed by the Republican-controlled court. The case rests on the "independent state legislature theory," which some argue gives state legislatures unlimited power to run federal elections in their state. The Supreme Court is divided on the matter, with a decision expected by June 30.

Threatening letters with white powder were sent to Tennessee Republican state lawmakers, prompting a lockdown of the legislative office building’s sixth floor and an FBI investigation. The letters, which targeted Republican legislators, were written by a "liberal activist," according to a GOP press secretary. Similar letters were also sent to lawmakers in Kansas, with one recipient linking them to support for a bill banning biological males from participating in women’s sports.

Banks Agree to Offer More Help to Struggling Mortgage Holders
UK chancellor Jeremy Hunt has met with top executives of banks and building societies to discuss ways to help mortgage holders. Banks and building societies will offer more flexibility following 13 consecutive interest rate rises in 18 months. The lenders will give more leeway to those facing losing their homes, with a minimum 12-month period before there are repossession proceedings without consent. Large numbers of households may experience rising mortgage payments; the Institute for Fiscal Studies warns that 1.4 million people could lose 20% of their disposable income. The UK prime minister and chancellor have ruled out financial intervention to tackle stubbornly high inflation which they deem the "number one priority".

National Review: Undermining American Capitalism
Undermining American Capitalism
The think tank American Compass, founded by Oren Cass, is calling for a more activist industrial policy on the right, but their publication “Rebuilding American Capitalism: A Handbook for Conservative Policymakers” demonstrates poor economic reasoning and would be a recipe for failure. The section on industry proposes poor policies such as local content requirements and a government-led research-and-development effort. The report also displays envy of other nations and advocates for an "American development bank" modeled after the European Investment Bank. These policies ignore mammoth public investment that leads to waste, graft, and a lack of innovation.

30 Percent of Employer Health Plans Pay for Transgender Procedures, Survey Shows
A survey conducted by the International Foundation of Employee Benefits Plans (IFEBP) found that 30% of American employers provide insurance benefits that cover sex-change surgery and hormone treatments for employees. However, only 13% of those companies offer mental health counseling before and after surgery, and the survey did not collect data on coverage for sex-change side effects or detransition procedures. The survey also found that only 2% of employers cover cosmetic surgery not related to transgender procedures. The growing support for transgender procedures in employer insurance plans is seen as a way for companies to attract and retain talent, but it also raises concerns about the potential complications and costs of these medical procedures.

Hotez, who advocates for vaccine compliance, fears that granting RFK Jr. a platform will give credibility to his views, but RFK Jr. is well-versed in pharmaceuticals and welcomes engagement, while Hotez prefers to write and engage only with peers. This reflects a deeper problem of credentialled individuals deploying their credentials as weapons to dismiss every view but their own .

The personal injury case that the brief was supporting was consequently dismissed by the court.

So What Were Those Banging Sounds? Unexplained Questions From The OceanGate Disaster Persist
Five passengers aboard the Titan submersible were lost en route to the Titanic following a "catastrophic" failure and the U.S. Navy detected sounds "consistent with an implosion or explosion". There are questions remaining over the submersible's disappearance and the frantic search effort that followed. One of those questions was why it took so long to use remote-operated vehicles (ROV) in the search, only two ships were involved in the search before Wednesday, though neither were equipped with ROVs that could reach the depths of the Titanic wreck at 3,800 meters.

The cause of the implosion has not been identified; however, it could have been caused by the submersible having a defect in its hull which gave way to "intense deep-sea” atmospheric pressure. Coast Guard Rear Adm. John Mauger said that he does not "have an answer for prospects" of recovering the bodies. Titanic director James Cameron criticized OceanGate for failing to listen to warnings about the submersible. The submersible's disappearance prompted a massive search and rescue effort involving the US, Canada, and France.

Home on the Range #043 - When Should You Hang your Treestand?...
It’s not just about in-season tasks; hanging your treestand in advance is a smart thing to do for hunters to have it ready months ahead of time. This not only allows adjustments but gives wildlife the chance to become used to their presence. Treestands can blend in naturally the earlier they are put up, instead of looking foreign and strange and getting avoided by game animals as a result. Furthermore, it is a way of “claiming your spot” and a deterrent for any neighbor who might have been intending to “lay claim” to that location. Hunters will free up future time, saves time in the long run, and can refine their location accordingly.
