House Republicans are trying to limit the Environmental Protection Agency's ability to issue Clean Air Act waivers for California, fearing that other states will eventually have to follow a Golden State gas-powered vehicle ban. The waivers give California – which represents 40 percent of the national car market – the ability to ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2035, and Republicans are revising the act to ensure this does not happen. Although the proposed bills under consideration do not prevent electric cars or trucks from being driven on public roads if people want them, the GOP says that forcing these vehicles on long-distance driving and rural Americans is simply wrong.
Fox News: Hunter Biden invited to White House state dinner 2 days after news of plea agreement on federal tax charges
Hunter Biden was invited to a White House state dinner two days after agreeing to plead guilty to two misdemeanor counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax and entering into a pretrial diversion agreement regarding a separate felony charge of possession of a firearm by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance. The president’s brother James Biden, who has been investigated by Republicans over foreign family business deals, was also invited. The White House reacted to the charges stating that they “will have no further comment."
Republicans have criticized Hunter Biden's plea deal, suggesting he's getting a "sweetheart" deal because he's the president's son. Sen. Marsha Blackburn stated "The DOJ is going for the low-hanging fruit by charging Hunter Biden with a gun felony and two tax misdemeanors, after years of slow walking their investigation." Other notable guests at the dinner included President Biden's daughter Ashley Biden, Huma Abedin, Ralph Lauren, Tim Cook, Billie Jean King, M. Night Shyamalan and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

The Epoch Times: Florida Sues Biden Administration Over College Accreditations
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis filed a lawsuit against the Department of Education in response to their requirement that public postsecondary schools must obtain approval from private accreditors in order to receive federal education funds. DeSantis argues that the current accrediting agency is trying to block his attempts to eliminate “destructive” political ideologies on campus that stifle free speech and oppose the canons of Western civilization. The lawsuit named Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona and other U.S. Education Department officials and was filed in the Southern District of Florida Fort Lauderdale Division.
DeSantis signed legislation in 2022 requiring secondary educational institutions to seek accreditation from different accreditors in consecutive accreditation cycles, and he has been waging war against “woke” ideology in higher education. DeSantis’s office began a new campaign to remove “woke” from the state’s universities and colleges on Dec. 28, 2022. Florida’s stance on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goes directly against the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), which supports and encourages the leadership role of its institutions in promoting and sustaining diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. Critics of DEI programs describe them as being built on critical race theory (CRT), which divides people into oppressors and victims based on race or gender. DeSantis argues that CRT stifles free speech and opposes the canons of Western civilization.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the strength of India’s democracy, cultural diversity, and economic growth in his second address to the U.S. Congress, emphasising the potential of U.S.–India ties. “The U.S. is the oldest and India [is] the largest democracy. Our partnership augurs well for the future of democracy,” Modi said. Modi described the present day as the age of “AI” – artificial intelligence – and delivered a strong message about the future significance of Indian democracy to the emerging global order. Experts state that the United States will continue to seek stronger bilateral ties and more defence partnerships with India following the visit.
Modi also spoke about India’s “infrastructure development” and revolution in digital infrastructure, stating that “digital platforms are empowering rights and dignity of people, while protecting privacy” and last year, 46% of real-time digital payments worldwide occurred in India. Modi spoke on how the economic partnership between India and the United States will “support the growth of both countries”. Following Modi’s visit, the United States and India will become closer in terms of cooperation on China policy, according to geopolitical analyst Dr. Nishant Ojha.

The letters contained threats made by a "liberal activist" and specifically targeted Republican lawmakers. Crews wore protective suits and air tanks to test the substance, but no injuries were reported.
The FBI is investigating how many letters were sent and what the motive was for sending the letters. The letters were sent months after the Tennessee house voted to expel state representatives who staged demonstrations on the House floor to call for gun control. Similar letters with white powder were sent to more than 100 elected officials in Kansas earlier this month.

However, thanks to positive results, the DPS is returning to help the APD tackle violent crime and traffic issues while ensuring emergency backup is on hand if required. The two agencies will work in tandem at briefings at the beginning of each shift to monitor and address crime issues with the help of a new deployment strategy based on staffing levels, traffic flow, and crime data.
