Fox News: Wall Street Journal helps Sam Alito preempt ethics story by ProPublica
Wall Street Journal helps Sam Alito preempt ethics story by ProPublica
Justice Samuel Alito burned ProPublica by preemptively providing an op-ed to the Wall Street Journal, titled "ProPublica Misleads Its Readers," before the news outlet's story had even been published. The story suggests that Alito's friend, hedge fund manager Paul Singer, had cases before the Supreme Court and had flown Alito to a luxury fishing lodge in Alaska for free. Alito denied any wrongdoing, claiming he did not need to disclose the "hospitality" from Singer and was unaware that Singer was a litigant before the court. The Justice has been criticized for not providing his side of the story to ProPublica since they had contacted him ahead of time.

The Federalist: Big Businesses Are Still Woke, They’re Just Quieter About It
Big Businesses Are Still Woke, They’re Just Quieter About It
Big businesses are still supporting woke causes financially, despite appearing to back down from publicly discussing them. Brand partnerships with organizations such as The Trevor Project and scoring high on the Corporate Equality Index demonstrate that support for woke causes is still strong. However, some companies are attempting to play it safe and move woke campaigns to the back of the store in response to backlash. Meanwhile, consumers are still divided on whether businesses should publicly support political and social issues, but efforts to tell inspiring stories about real Americans and their hopes and dreams could unite people.

Foreign Policy: Europe Is Stuck in a Toxic China Relationship
Europe Is Stuck in a Toxic China Relationship
Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu met with European politicians to discuss China's recent attempts to intimidate his government, and to take stock of how the mood toward China had changed on the continent since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. However, the official European Union policy mirrors the US "One China" policy, in line with Beijing's expectations, and EU leaders have not explained why Taiwan is important for Europe, leading to a reluctance to scale down ties with Beijing. Reducing the EU's economic dependence on China and disentangling the deeply mangled economic relationship with China are seen as the key to the China conundrum.

The Federalist: Secretary Austin Must Fully End The Military Vaccine Mandate Now
Secretary Austin Must Fully End The Military Vaccine Mandate Now
Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin mandated that all service members receive a Covid-19 shot, with those who would not comply facing discharge. Many saw this as a political move, flooding services with exemption requests they were not equipped to handle. As a result, litigation between service members and the services grew. Congress ultimately passed the National Defense Authorization Act in December 2022, requiring Austin to stand down. Those who requested an official exemption are in the clear, but soldiers who had too much integrity to put forth a dishonest religious exemption request are left in "cruel limbo." Due to their flag status, they cannot get promoted, be awarded, change duty stations, attend certain schools, and must sit waiting for their contract to expire. This policy followed Austin's order for the DOD to provide time off and pay for certain expenses for service members who want to travel to another state to attain an abortion. This policy has resulted in over 200 officers who cannot be promoted or take command due to a hold by Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala. Austin must end the vaccine requirement for all service members and demand services restore them to full status.

The Epoch Times: Appeals Court Halts Proceedings in Nashville Shooter’s Records Case as Appeal Allowing Intervention by Covenant Parties Proceeds
Appeals Court Halts Proceedings in Nashville Shooter’s Records Case as Appeal Allowing Intervention by Covenant Parties Proceeds
The Tennessee Court of Appeals has paused the trial proceedings against the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department after the Covenant School shooter's parents, church, and school appealed the lower court's decision to allow them to enter the lawsuit as third-party interveners. Although Chancellor I’Ashea Myles intends to continue a hearing on July 12th to determine whether MNPD has to release the records, the higher court granted an expedited hearing for the plaintiffs to appeal the decision on allowing intervention before hearing the case. The Tennessee Public Records Act prefers expedited hearings on open records lawsuits, but the higher court ruled that without halting the trial proceedings, the appellate court's decision could be rendered moot.

Man With Hit-and-Run History Jailed After Crash Kills 5 Young Women in Minneapolis
Derrick John Thompson, who served a hit-and-run sentence in California, remains jailed following a deadly crash in Minneapolis. Five young women were killed after being struck by a speeding driver who ran a red light. Thompson is awaiting charges after the tragedy. The victims, all in their late teens or early twenties, were active members of a local mosque and were returning home from an outing at a Somali mall when they were hit. Thousands from Minneapolis's Somali American community turned out for their funeral. Jail records do not show whether Thompson has an attorney. He was convicted twice of fleeing police in Minnesota.

Saudi Pro League Winner Explains Challenges Facing New Coaches There
Top soccer coaches like Jose Morais are moving to Saudi Arabia's Pro League, but need to be adaptable to succeed. Morais, who won the Saudi Pro League with Al-Hilal, says coaches need to take into account cultural differences and be flexible with their players' schedules, such as accommodating late nights and early mornings due to prayer times. He also stresses the importance of clear communication with translators, who may not have a high level of English. Despite these challenges, the quality of soccer is high and the pitches are top-notch, making it an attractive move for coaches looking for a new challenge in their career.

The Epoch Times: Senate Banking Committee Passes Bill to Claw Back Bank Executive Pay
Senate Banking Committee Passes Bill to Claw Back Bank Executive Pay
The Senate Bank Committee approved the Recovering Executive Compensation from Unaccountable Practices (RECOUP) Act, which gives the FDIC power to claw back compensation from bank executives after their institutions fail, imposes new fines and regulations for misconduct, and restricts failed executives from working in the financial sector. The bill was praised as a "commonsense solution" by Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), but Sens. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) voted against it, citing concerns over making larger banks bigger and government overreach.

Meanwhile, the debate on Capitol Hill centers on implementing more rules and regulations on the finance sector, with discussions of increasing capital standards for medium and large companies to ensure stronger banks that can lend and survive crisis environments. However, GOP lawmakers argue that such measures would limit banks' ability to lend money, exacerbate the credit crunch, and starve families and small businesses of capital.
