The Epoch Times: 10 States File Lawsuit Against Federal Government for Flood Insurance Rate Hikes
Ten US states are suing the federal government in an attempt to thwart the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) new risk rating system for calculating flood insurance rates. The states claim Risk Rating 2.0 will significantly increase insurance costs for many of their residents. FEMA, however, has said that the system is aimed at a fairer distribution of costs than its previous model. The lawsuit, which also involves dozens of Louisiana governments and flood control units, warns that 90% of Louisiana policyholders will face an 18% increase in premiums per annum for a decade. It claims that under Risk Rating 2.0, a policy costing $572 a year could eventually cost $8,000.
Concerns have grown that flood risks to the US mortgage market are not being taken seriously enough, with the market potentially facing a crisis. A recent study by DeltaTerra Capital found that 20% of US homes may have exposure to a devaluation of up to $200 billion in the housing market due to flooding. Speaking to CNBC, Dave Burt, CEO of DeltaTerra Capital, said homes destroyed by flooding depreciate dramatically, leaving mortgage borrowers vulnerable to defaults. If lenders continue to ignore the risks posed by flooding, a similar price adjustment to the one that occurred during the 2008 housing crisis could occur soon.

The censorship had the opposite effect and the documentary amassed nearly 63 million views in less than 24 hours. The whole debacle started with Twitter labeling the film as hate speech and ended with all suppression lifted.
