Twitter Files ‘Revealed Secret Debate’ Inside Platform Leadership to Ban Berenson Over COVID-19
Evidence from The Twitter Files shows that Twitter wrongfully censored independent journalist Alex Berenson for supposedly violating COVID-19 rules. Berenson received email evidence from Michael Shellenberger showing that the Biden White House and a Pfizer board member wanted him censored and pressured Twitter to do so. Despite top Twitter executives disagreeing with the ban, the company settled with Berenson and admitted error. Conservative voices are under attack, and Berenson’s lawsuit highlights possible collusion between Big Tech and the federal government to censor free speech.

The New American: Lessons on Power and Authority for Today's Conservatives
Lessons on Power and Authority for Today's Conservatives
Understanding power and authority is necessary for those on the political right who wish to bring about change. Charismatic authority is one of three forms of authority that a society's leadership may be based on, and it involves using personal magnetism and charisma to obtain political power. However, it is important to recognize that political life is predicated not only on power but also on authority, which is the right to compel as well as the power to do so. Charisma often precedes and leads to the establishment of legal and traditional authority. The conservative movement needs to focus on understanding the importance of leadership and charisma to make an impact.

US Keeping More Than 8,000 Hours of Security Video From Jan. 6 Defendants: Court Filing
The Department of Justice has withheld over 8,000 hours of security video footage from Jan. 6, 2021, causing issues for criminal defendants trying to access exculpatory evidence. The DOJ has only given defendants access to less than 6,000 hours of security footage from the Capitol Building. After gaining access to U.S. Capitol Police closed-circuit television video through a House GOP committee, William Pope discovered some security cameras were missing footage from 2-6 p.m. on Jan. 6. Pope asked the court to compel the government to provide a CCTV inventory but has faced opposition from Assistant U.S. Attorney Kelly Moran.

China Report: 29,000 People Protested in over 2,000 Events Nationwide
China has recorded 2,230 cases of dissent in the country between June 2022 and last April, with at least 29,000 participants according to Freedom House's latest China Dissent Monitor report. This included protests over unpaid wages and failed housing developments, with workers demanding better conditions and owners demanding that companies adhere to contracts. The report suggests that China's economy may not have improved since coronavirus lockdowns and some workers have not received payment despite legal protections. Additionally, the government uses Orwellian laws to punish public dissent, with the worst punishments reserved for anti-communist activists, Christian, Muslim, Tibetan Buddhist, and Falun Gong practitioners.

YouTube Changes ‘Misinformation Policy,’ Will Allow Content Creators To Say ‘Widespread Fraud’ Occurred In Elections
YouTube will allow content that claims widespread voter fraud occurred in the 2020 election and past US Presidential elections, reversing its policy. This move comes as the 2024 presidential primaries are heating up, and former President Donald Trump continues to challenge the 2020 election's result, claiming widespread voter fraud. YouTube said it "carefully deliberated" before making the change, which takes effect on Friday, 8 October. The Big Tech company will continue to stifle content deemed "election misinformation," including videos aiming to mislead voters about the time, place, and eligibility requirements for voting.

The Republican Party is divided on Trump's denial of the 2020 election results, with many arguing it's time to move on and focus on winning future elections. YouTube's new policy reversal will likely have consequences for the 2024 presidential campaign. Trump, who leads Republican primary polling, maintains a large base of loyal supporters who defend his claims of a stolen election. The video platform, bought by Google in 2006, will still remove content that maliciously insults someone.

Doctors accused of conspiring to become Russian assets get mistrial in bizarre spy trial involving undercover agents
A federal judge declared a mistrial in a case involving two doctors accused of conspiring to assist Russia in its war with Ukraine by sharing private medical records of their patients. Prosecutors claimed that Anna Gabrielian, a Johns Hopkins anesthesiologist, and her husband Jamie Lee Henry, an active-duty Army officer, shared health records with an undercover FBI agent and attempted to become Russian assets. The couple was arrested in 2022 and faced charges related to sharing private medical records. The judge declared a mistrial after the jury was deadlocked, with one juror believing the defendants were entrapped, and 11 others believing that they were not entrapped.

The CCP Adopts New Maritime Policy, Aggravating Tensions in the South China Sea
China has issued new rules instructing its Coast Guard to arrest foreigners. The move comes in response to territorial disputes with the Philippines, Vietnam, and other countries in the South China Sea. International observers have criticized the move as a violation of international law. The United States has warned both sides to de-escalate tensions.

China's recent expansionist policies in the South China Sea have caused tensions with the Philippines. The two countries' relationship changed when China began building artificial islands in the area in 2014. The 2016 ruling of The Hague Tribunal, which favored the Philippines over China, further strained the relationship. The United States and the Philippines have accelerated the implementation of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement as a countermeasure to China's aggression.

Hong Kong, previously the epicentre of Tiananmen Square remembrance on Chinese soil, has been suppressed under a “national security law” imposed by Beijing in 2020.

Cory Morgan: Unrealistic Energy Sector Emissions Caps Will Kill the Canadian Economy’s Golden Goose
Speculation that Canada’s economy would go into recession has been dampened by higher GDP growth in Q1 of 2023, leading to predictions that the Bank of Canada will raise interest rates in an effort to curb inflation. However, the industries driving economic growth in Canada are high emitters of greenhouse gases, meaning that if emissions targets remain unchanged the nation will be stunting its only large industries that are thriving in the world economy. Canada will also lose its advantage in the global energy market, and demand for oil is expected to rise even as the country limits production through self-imposed emissions caps.

This American City Taxes High-Income Earners the Most: Report
Portland, Oregon, has the least favorable tax rates for high-income individuals, while New York, Honolulu, and San Francisco have the lowest purchasing power for those who make $250,000. Seven of the top 10 cities for purchasing power were from Texas, which has no personal income tax. States with high taxes, such as California and New York, saw significant taxpayer exodus, while states such as Florida, Texas, and Nevada had the highest net migration of taxpayers. An August 2022 report by SmartAsset reveals that eight of the 10 states with the biggest influx of high-earning households between 2019 and 2020 are partially located in the Sun Belt.

Washington Free Beacon: Debt Ceiling Deal Dooms Biden’s Tax and Spend Agenda
Debt Ceiling Deal Dooms Biden’s Tax and Spend Agenda
President Joe Biden's goal of raising taxes on wealthy Americans and corporations to fund social priorities has been dashed with the debt ceiling deal reached with Republicans. The agreement, which caps discretionary spending and suspends the debt ceiling, does not contain any tax rate changes to increase revenue; it also cuts the new funding Biden allocated to the Internal Revenue Service. This deal marks Republicans' successful defense of the debt-boosting 2017 Trump tax cuts against criticism from Democrats to reverse them for wealthy Americans, and the major change to the US tax code is now unlikely until the end of 2025 when the 2017 individual tax cuts expire.

Biden's campaign promise to tax wealthy Americans and corporations highlights the political difficulty of changing tax codes without commanding congressional majorities. His "$4tn Build Back Better" initiative included plans for infrastructure, clean energy incentives, workforce development, child care, paid family leave, free community college, expanded child tax credits, and other initiatives. Much to his disappointment, opposition from Republicans and Democratic senators forced Biden to scale back his revenue plans. He did manage to achieve $238bn in deficit cuts over 10 years by winning new cryptocurrency tax rules in the infrastructure bill and a new 15% corporate alternative minimum tax in the climate-focused Inflation Reduction Act.

A new report by NERC warns that the US electric grid is at risk of power outages due to the summer demand and its climate policy. The report predicts that two-thirds of the US, including everyone living west of the Mississippi River, could experience power outages. China's Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC) has filed a patent for a short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) fighter aircraft, after 40 years of espionage and indigenous development. CAC's new VTOL system will use a medium-size turbofan behind the cockpit, vectoring thrust via two nozzles, and an aft-mounted medium thrust afterburning turbofan. It is unclear when the Chengdu STOVL fighter will emerge, but it will likely equip new larger versions of the 40,000-ton Type 075 large amphibious assault ship. The fighter will also give the People's Liberation Army (PLA) a manned aircraft from which it can better control larger numbers of fast unmanned combat aircraft.

Revolver News founder Darren Beattie and Human Events host Jack Posobiec criticized President Biden's effort to remove Trump supporters from the US military under the guise of eliminating "extremism." They accused Media Matters of being upset and emotionally disturbed by Beattie's efforts to expose Bishop Garrison and the Pentagon group tasked with the operation. Beattie called Media Matters a Soros-funded rag tasked with digging through Revolver's past stories to find dirt. The group criticized Revolver News for exposing Garrison's efforts to conduct an ideological purge of Trump supporters in the military. The operation was initiated after January 6, but Beattie argued that its real aim was to push out anyone who disagrees with the administration's policies, such as open borders and gender politics.

REVIEW: ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the darker and more serious follow-up to the visually stunning and award-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The new movie features a now teenage Miles Morales who is feeling increasingly alone and alienated as no one knows he's Spider-Man. The plot revolves around an interdimensional crew attempting to repair fissures in the multiverse, with encounters with various Spider-Men and Spider-Women from other universes. The animation is just as dazzling as the original, but some may find the fights and chase sequences verging on incoherent. While the depiction of the parents is disappointingly conventional, the movie remains a radical and creative force in animation.

Supreme Court Ruling Deals Blow to Labor Unions
The Supreme Court ruled 8-1 on Thursday that employers can sue labor unions over property destruction during strikes in a victory for Glacier Northwest, a concrete business in Washington state. The company accused an affiliate of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters of intentionally destroying its property during a 2017 strike, but the state Supreme Court ruled in 2021 that the company's claims were preempted by the National Labor Relations Act. However, the US Supreme Court overturned the lower court's decision, with conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett writing that the union's actions not only destroyed the concrete but posed a risk of foreseeable harm to Glacier's trucks. Liberal Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented, arguing that the ruling risks erosion of the right to strike.
