The American Spectator: There Is Still Good in the World
Despite the hopelessness of our century, there are many things going right: cancer mortality is decreasing, we still have poetry and music, and social networks haven't destroyed all forms of friendship. There are millions of people doing good, from soldiers offering prisoners water to farmers harvesting crops, radiologists confirming the absence of tumors, and businessmen supporting children's hospitals. In fact, the number of hungry people in the world has decreased by more than 200 million since 1990 (, ). However, there are also many problems to address, like violence, environmental issues, and poverty, that require looking for opportunities for development and progress (, ). Despite the challenges, we should not give in to cynicism, but focus on the ordinary people who make the world a better place each day.
