Newsbusters: VICTORY! House Appropriations Committee Zeroes Out Funding for Nefarious DHS TVTP Program
VICTORY! House Appropriations Committee Zeroes Out Funding for Nefarious DHS TVTP Program
The House Appropriations Committee zeroed out funding for DHS's "Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention" (TVTP) program from the DHS Appropriations Bill 2024, a scheme weaponized to destroy conservatives, Christians and Republicans by targeting them through "media literacy and online critical thinking initiatives." This is just the start of broader efforts to protect free speech and restore the First Amendment again, with battles to be waged on the floor of the House and the Senate. Conservatives are urged to contact their representatives and demand accountability from Big Tech.

MRC Free Speech America released a groundbreaking report arguing that DHS's anti-terrorism grant program has been weaponized to suppress free speech, and called for answers from DHS. The program has been changed from preventing "all forms of terrorism and targeted violence" to combating "domestic radicalization," to prioritize the targeting of conservatives and Christians through "training seminars" to make the US a one-party country. Brent Bozell and Dan Schneider have been working closely with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to delve deeper into the findings presented in the report. Conservatives are urged to demand that Big Tech be held to account to mirror the First Amendment and for transparency and clarity on so-called hate speech.

Clapper Doubles Down in Amazingly Bad Remarks About Russia and the Laptop
Former director of intelligence James Clapper defends his signing of a letter from 51 former intel officials warning of Russian interference in the 2020 election and accusing efforts to discredit Hunter Biden of being part of Russian disinformation campaign. Clapper claims his warning was appropriate, despite having no direct evidence to support it, and that he has not seen any official analysis of the laptop to suggest Russian involvement. Critics argue that the letter was a political move to support Joe Biden.

Canada's Access to Information System 'Continues to Have Flaws': Federal Report
Canada's access to information system is flawed, says a committee that is requesting an overhaul to give Canadians the information they need to hold the government to account. The committee suggested a ban on the use of personal emails for public business, a requirement for the mandatory disclosure of all public spending and a process for the automatic release of historical documents more than 25 years old. Conservative MP John Brassard, also chair of the committee, said the country’s access to information system “is broken.” The report proposed to limit the time extension allowable for federal agencies to respond to requests to a maximum of 60 days unless an exception was given by the information commissioner.

Forbes: A Deadhead At Heart? Fed Chair Powell Confirms Visit To Virginia Dead & Co. Show
A Deadhead At Heart? Fed Chair Powell Confirms Visit To Virginia Dead & Co. Show
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell confirmed he is a fan of The Grateful Dead, following a blurry photo posted to Twitter last month that sparked speculation about his attendance at a Dead & Company show in Virginia. Responding to a question during a congressional hearing, Powell said he had been a fan of the band for 50 years and confirmed he attended the concert, saying: "It was terrific. What can I say? It was great." Powell's declaration follows recent revelations about high-level US officials' music tastes and hobbies.

Since its debut in 2015, Dead & Company has sold 2.8 million tickets compared to the 22 million sold by the Grateful Dead over 30 years. Barron's reports Powell attended his first Grateful Dead concert in 1973 at RFK Stadium in DC, and also plays Dead songs on guitar in his free time. The Federal Reserve Chair is the latest otherwise 'stern' DC figure to come out as a fan of a major fandom, following Janet Yellin's love of rock collecting, Fiona Hill's escape to an Imagine Dragons concert and Merrick Garland's passion for Taylor Swift and Vampire Weekend.

Illegal Drugs Now Leading Cause of Death in BC for Ages 10 to 59: Coroner
Illicit drug overdoses are the leading cause of death in British Columbia, with over 1,000 fatalities in the first five months of 2023 -- largely caused by fentanyl. The BC Coroners Service blames a “profit-driven unregulated market” for the surge in deaths and chief coroner Lisa Lapointe called for “a safer substance supply as an alternative to the toxic black market.” Although B.C. offers a “safe supply” of hard drugs like heroin and cocaine at taxpayer expense, as well as funding supervised drug “consumption” sites where drug addicts can use hard drugs with free needles, it is finding “unregulated drugs” to be irreparable.

Tackling BC's Largest Ever Wildfire Means Letting Some of It Burn, Province Says
BC Wildfire Service is using new tactics to protect homes and infrastructure while allowing some areas of Donnie Creek wildfire, almost as large as Prince Edward Island, to burn. Mark Healey, incident commander with the BC Wildfire Service, says he has never seen either end of the fire that is burning across a remote area in northeastern British Columbia almost 160 kilometres north of Fort St. John. Healey says those factors add to the challenge of ensuring the safety of 250 wildfire service personnel currently assigned to the blaze. The fire accounts for more than 60 per cent of nearly 8,700 square kilometres of land charred by wildfires in B.C. since April 1.
