‘Not as Dominant’: Post-Indictment Polling Suggests Trump’s Hold over the GOP May Be Loosening
Former President Donald Trump's political standing may be impacted by his second indictment, with some GOP primary voters becoming more shaken than in the past. Trump continues to dominate the Republican Party, but his position is no longer as strong as earlier in the year, as polling shows. Support for Trump has fallen in the wake of his second indictment, with more Republicans giving other candidates a second look, though it remains to be seen whether a rival will coalesce behind them. However, some polling supports the theory that Trump's base is not wavering, and it is suggested that independent voters may be the voters to watch.

Durham Appears To Squeeze Schiff Zinger Into Trump-Russia Probe Testimony
During a House Judiciary Committee hearing, special counsel John Durham and Rep. Adam Schiff sparred over the 2016 Trump Tower meeting. Schiff asked if Durham was "aware" that Mueller and congressional investigations revealed the meeting was predicated on a Russian official offering the Trump campaign dirt on Hillary Clinton. Durham responded that "people get phone calls all the time from individuals who claim to have information like that," referencing Schiff's past conversation with Russian prank callers. Durham criticized the meeting as "ill-advised" but not illegal, while Schiff claimed it was illegal to conspire to get opposition research from a hostile government. The exchange is categorized as .

The Federalist: Media: Hunter Biden Plea Deal Is A Tragedy About A Troubled Life
Media: Hunter Biden Plea Deal Is A Tragedy About A Troubled Life
The media's coverage of Hunter Biden's tax evasion and illegal gun possession charges portrays him as a victim instead of acknowledging the public's victimhood. Reports from The Washington Post and The New York Times focus on Hunter's "complex relationship" with his father and struggles with addiction, rather than the absurd leniency of his plea deal and his corrupt influence-peddling schemes. The media's sympathy for Hunter fails to address the larger issue of the Bidens' corruption.

Lawyer for Rapper Kodak Black Complains Client Got 3 Years for Hunter Biden's Gun Crime
Kodak Black's lawyer claimed "two tiers of justice" after Hunter Biden avoided prison time for the same weapons charge that got Black a 3-year sentence. Biden was charged with possession of a firearm by someone who is an unlawful user of a controlled substance, but received no prison time and no felony convictions. Black, who had prior convictions, was pardoned by Trump after serving over three years. The Biden-Washington Free Beacon's reporting earlier this month chronicled Biden’s drug use in the days surrounding the gun purchase that led to federal charges.

Although Salaam has a relative lack of political experience, he has landmark endorsements from Black activist Cornel West and other high-profile figures ( ).

Justice Alito Leaves Progressive Smear Merchants Crying as He Scoops Them on Their Own Story
Justice Samuel Alito called out news organization ProPublica for publishing a false story that misrepresented a vacation he took with a billionaire, who was also a defendant in cases before the court. He published his opinion in a column in The Wall Street Journal, which came out five hours before the ProPublica article hit the press. The justice's reaction to the news organization's journalistic misconduct is seen as an unusual move. Critics however, have voiced their concern that Alito gave away information that shouldn't have been made public before it was revealed in the yet-to-be-published story .

Judge Strikes Down Arkansas’ Gender-Affirming Care Ban—Here Are All The Other Transgender Health Restrictions Blocked By Courts
A federal court has blocked Arkansas' ban on gender-affirming care for transgender children, joining other states that have had similar bans or restrictions held up by court rulings. More than a dozen states have issued bans on gender-affirming care this year.

Lawsuits have been filed in most states with legislation targeting gender-affirming care, with requests for temporary or permanent injunctions. The American Civil Liberties Union has sued over restrictions in multiple states and pledged to challenge similar legislation in other states.

Source Close to Hunter Biden Says He Reached Settlement With Arkansas Baby Mama
Hunter Biden has reportedly settled a child support dispute with his four-year-old daughter's mother, which will reduce his monthly payments from $20,000 to $5,000. The settlement also allows him to avoid a court dispute that may have revealed information about his finances, according to a source close to Biden. The terms of the agreement are being worked out and the case is sealed. Biden also reportedly reached a plea agreement with federal prosecutors on tax and gun charges, and the settlement would be the third legal issue resolved for him on Tuesday.

The Federalist Papers: House Forced to Vote on Two Biden Impeachment Resolutions - More Could Be Coming Soon
House Forced to Vote on Two Biden Impeachment Resolutions - More Could Be Coming Soon
House Republicans are expected to vote on motions to impeach President Joe Biden and censure Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of California this week. Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado will file a privileged motion to bring her articles of impeachment against Biden to the floor for a vote, while Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia is also looking at the same parliamentary tactic. Schiff was the target of a resolution proposed last week by Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, who said he deserved punishment for promoting the discredited Steele dossier and for making false claims regarding collusion between former President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia.

Boebert’s two articles of impeachment against Biden focus on the crisis at the nation’s southern border. With Democrats in the majority in the upper chamber, Senate conviction on any impeachment charges against Biden appears unlikely. Greene’s articles of impeachment also focus on the border crisis and she has vented her frustration that some GOP members do not want to impeach Biden.

Dems Attack Durham To Deflect From Their Own Reputations
Former Special Counsel John Durham testified before lawmakers on the House Judiciary Committee, revealing the failure of the FBI to vet sources behind allegations of collusion between former President Donald Trump and the Russian government. He also said there is not a single piece of substantive information in the debunked Steele dossier that has been corroborated by the FBI or anyone else. Durham's investigations found issues with the bureaucracy that require accountability and are not susceptible to overnight fixes.

Library conference speaker tells librarians not to label LGBT+ books because 'it makes it too easy for parents or community members to find'
Valerie Byrd Fort, an instructor at the University of South Carolina, advised librarians at a Library 2.0 seminar to take pro-active steps to prevent parents and community members from finding LGBT+ books by not labeling them with "identity-based subject headings" and by providing students with privacy covers if needed. She recommended school and public librarians create rotating displays of recommended books, some with student volunteers, and provide a physical or digital list to students. Byrd Fort did not respond to a request for a comment, but a spokesperson for Library 2.0 emphasized that none of the speakers are compensated and their remarks don't represent the position of the conference organizers.

Biden Spills 'Sensitive' Intelligence about Chinese Spy Balloon to Donors
President Biden revealed sensitive intelligence information about China at a fundraiser in California, sharing what US intelligence agencies had learned about the Chinese spy balloon incident earlier this year. The President reportedly surprised US officials with his revelations, discussing the internal confusion in Beijing during the incident, and telling attendees that the Chinese President was “really upset” by the Quad. Biden’s indiscretion may have also derailed diplomatic outreach to China, inviting criticism from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which described his remarks as “utterly absurd and irresponsible.”

Fox News: Biden admin backs down from sweeping EV proposal after saying it would boost energy security
Biden admin backs down from sweeping EV proposal after saying it would boost energy security
The EPA has watered down a renewable fuels proposal which would have subsidized electric vehicles after appeals from refiners. Instead, the finalized program has veered from last year's proposal, which incentivised electric vehicle manufacturing and purchasing. Refiners are happy that the EPA has abandoned its attempt to turn the RFS (Renewable Fuel Standard) into another government subsidy program for electric vehicles and 'eRINS' do not belong in the RFS and shouldn't be resurrected, said Chet Thompson, American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers president and CEO. The proposed eRIN obligation would have compelled petroleum refineries to subsidize EV companies for biofuel-generated electricity. Republican lawmakers also opposed the EPA RFS plan.

The finalized RFS program aims to ensure the steady growth of biofuels for transport use, reduce US oil imports and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, according to the EPA. It is expected to reduce imports of US oil by about 130,000 to 140,000 barrels per day over the next three years and produce economic benefits of up to $192 million. President Biden has vowed to ensure that 50% of new car sales are zero-emissions by 2030 while the EPA introduced its most ambitious regulations to push wider adoption of electric vehicles in April. These would lead to 67% of new sedan, crossover, SUV and light truck purchases being electric by 2032.

Meta is also doing well, with a return of 134%, partly due to CEO Mark Zuckerberg's efforts to cut operating costs and investments in AI. Dish Network is the worst performer this year at -54%, with decreased operating margins, cyberattacks, high debt, and increased competition in the video streaming industry contributing to the drop. Advance Auto Parts and three regional banks are also among the worst performers.

Higher pay was seen as the primary motivation for the moves, but the survey also found a desire for greater fulfillment, company culture and inclusion.

Denisse Ahumada-Martínez, a city councilwoman from Reynosa, Mexico, was arrested by US border patrol agents when they found 93 pounds of cocaine in her car. Her attorney argued that the government did not prove intent, and there was no evidence of Ahumada-Martínez intending to traffic drugs. Her children were in the car with her at the time. The court ruled that the inconsistencies in testimony were crucial as there was no physical evidence. The case will be sent back to U.S. District Court, and the ruling does not address the 2020 tribal sovereignty ruling. McGirt's convictions were overturned previously following Supreme Court rulings stating that the state can not prosecute major crimes committed on tribal land by Native Americans. Suspect in Wreck that Killed Five Is Son of Lawmaker Democrats Expelled
Derrick Thompson, son of a former Democrat politician, has been charged with murder after a hit-and-run crash that killed five women in Minnesota. Thompson, who has previous convictions for fleeing police, was caught on video allegedly driving at 100 miles per hour before colliding with a car in which the women, who were all under 21, were traveling. Thompson's previous convictions include a hit-and-run crash in 2018 in which the victim was in a coma for several weeks; he has multiple previous convictions in Minnesota and reports suggest law enforcement found marijuana and $20,000 in cash in his car during a previous arrest.

The suspect's father, John Thompson, was a fiery Black Lives Matter (BLM) protest leader after the shooting of his best friend Philando Castile; he has been embroiled in several controversies, including accusations of domestic violence and lying about being racially profiled by the police. Although elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2020, he was expelled from the Democratic party in September 2021 and unseated in November 2022. Video footage from August 2020 shows Thompson bashing an effigy of a police union president. The incident has drawn attention to the alleged connections between BLM activists and political violence.

Los Angeles Lakers Suddenly Face Limited Options At Point Guard If They Fail To Acquire Chris Paul
With Chris Paul trade options limited for the Los Angeles Lakers, the team may have to look at re-signing D’Angelo Russell or trading for a star guard using their No. 17 pick with a package of players. Despite his poor performance in the Western Conference Finals, Russell had a solid regular season and has the potential to be a viable option at point guard. The other option would be trading their No. 17 pick and non-guaranteed deals for a star guard, but there isn't a clear market for trades for a point guard. If the Lakers fail to acquire their point guard through trade, they will run it back with Russell.

Construction of a new trail to the peak of Pikes Peak is entering a fifth summer, with the aim of finishing the 4 miles by 2023. Whistleblower Who Flagged Safety Issues in Missing Titanic Submersible Was Fired
The director of marine operations at OceanGate, David Lochridge, who was fired in January 2018 from the company, had raised significant safety concerns over the experimental carbon fiber hull of the firm's Titan submersible. Lochridge had submitted an inspection report on Jan 18, 2018, identifying "numerous issues that posed serious safety concerns" as they could lead to "large tears of the carbon", while offering recommendations for corrective action. After Lochridge submitted his report, he was called for a meeting with OceanGate executives where he learned the company intended to take passengers down to depths of 4,000 meters despite the viewport at the forward of the submersible being certified to a depth of 1,300 meters. Lochridge was then fired at the end of the meeting, and a rescue operation is currently underway to locate the Titan craft, which went missing during a deep dive to the wreckage of the Titanic on Sunday.
