National Review: Justice Alito Pushes Back on Misleading ProPublica Report
Justice Alito Pushes Back on Misleading ProPublica Report
Justice Samuel Alito has denied allegations that he breached gift disclosure rules and recusal standards. ProPublica had reported that Alito's trip to Alaska alongside hedge fund manager Paul Singer ought to have been reported, and that Alito should have recused himself from a case connected with Singer. After denying both charges, Alito argued that his actions were entirely within appropriate standards, and that recusing himself from the Singer case would not have been required. Most of the cases in which Singer had a connection were not taken up by the Court, and Singer's name did not appear in the relevant court records for the one case that was taken up. Alito also noted that hospitality usually did not need to be reported and that accommodations and transportation for social events were not reportable gifts based on former court rules.

Spectator USA: Hunter Biden is protected from on high
Hunter Biden is protected from on high
Hunter Biden has become the designated defendant for his family and will plead guilty to not paying taxes to avoid questions about how he made his money and avoid jail time. He has used his last name to avoid consequences for misdemeanors and a gun felony, and his role as a fall guy for his family has turned his life into a black hole of drugs, debts, and duplicity. An ongoing investigation can be used to excuse the Justice Department from answering questions, and Republicans in Congress should demand their access to evidence to answer unanswered questions.

‘Slap on the Wrist’: 2024 Republican Candidates Slam DOJ over Hunter Biden Plea Deal
Hunter Biden has reached a plea deal and avoided jail time after being charged with illegally possessing a firearm and failing to pay taxes for two years. Several Republican presidential candidates are criticizing the DOJ over the deal, citing it as another reason Americans have lost faith in the justice department. There are concerns about the length of the investigation, the Biden administration's handling of the case, and the potential favoritism involved. Some are calling for transparency and further investigation into whistleblower allegations.

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis criticized San Francisco's "leftist policies," saying that it has collapsed because of them. DeSantis witnessed crime, rampant drug use, people "defecating on the street," and boarded-up businesses. He contrasted San Francisco with Florida where people are moving in droves.

Justice Alito pre-emptively debunks newest hit piece accusing him of legal, ethical violations: 'Neither charge is valid'
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito preemptively responded to a ProPublica hit piece accusing him of unethical behavior. The story claimed that billionaire Paul Singer, who supports Republican politics, flew Alito to Alaska for a fishing trip in 2008, which Alito failed to report on his financial disclosure report. ProPublica also alleged that Alito did not recuse himself from cases in which Singer's hedge fund had an interest. Alito responded that he did not need to recuse himself as his relationship with Singer is minimal and the flight and trip were not gifts. On not reporting, Alito said he followed the standard practice as he understood it when he joined the Court.

Powerful centrist group mulling third-party run addresses Manchin rumors head on
Democrats are growing increasingly concerned about a potential third-party run by Sen. Joe Manchin which could hurt President Biden's chances of re-election. No Labels, a centrist organization, is considering setting up a bipartisan "unity ticket" for the 2024 presidential election, but CEO Nancy Jacobson says it is too early to say if Manchin will be a part of it. Manchin's decision will not affect him, according to a source in his political orbit, who claimed the West Virginia senator will make his decision on whether to run for re-election to the Senate in January 2024.

Not A Joke: ABC Analyst Says Hunter Got Harsher Treatment BECAUSE He’s A Biden
Legal Analyst Dan Abrams claimed that Hunter Biden was treated more harshly by the Justice Department due to his name, and might not have been prosecuted if Republicans weren't trying to connect him to his father's actions. ABC's Chief Justice Correspondent hinted that Hunter's alleged crimes were part of a political effort to damage President Biden, though Abrams argued the prosecution would not have happened if Hunter's name was different. Republicans have reportedly sought to make Hunter Biden's troubles and financial dealings, including those in Ukraine and China, a political tool for his father.

WATCH: John Durham Schools Democratic Congressman on Special Counsel Investigation
Democratic congressman Hank Johnson mistakenly criticized former special counsel John Durham's probe by implying it failed to indict Hunter Biden. Durham clarified that he did not investigate Hunter Biden and Johnson continued on with his questioning. The probe into the FBI and the Justice Department's investigation of former president Donald Trump found flaws but no evidence of Trump-Russia collusion, while Hunter Biden faces misdemeanor tax charges.

The Federalist: The Biggest 'Threat To Democracy' Is The Corrupt Media
The Biggest 'Threat To Democracy' Is The Corrupt Media
The media attacks on Robert F. Kennedy Jr. have nothing to do with vaccine acceptance, but rather because they perceive him as a threat to Biden’s 2024 presidential bid. Propaganda press is primarily drumming up hysteria around his appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast because of the fear of losing the upcoming presidential election and hence, Democrats’ plan to erode the liberties prescribed in the Constitution. The media could have done their job in 2020 and reported — or at the very least not lied about — the Hunter Biden laptop, but they didn’t want Biden to lose in 2020. The legacy press encouraged Big Tech to censor Joe Rogan’s RFK Jr. podcast. , ,

Washington Free Beacon: Democrats Scramble To Stop Joe Manchin From Running Against Biden
Democrats Scramble To Stop Joe Manchin From Running Against Biden
Democratic Senator Joe Manchin has reportedly been considering a presidential bid, possibly as a third-party candidate, a prospect that is causing concern among his colleagues who say it would only benefit Republicans. Self-described centrist group No Labels has pledged to spend $70m on a third-party candidate in 2024, but has yet to reveal its most recent financial figures. Manchin has also considered running for re-election in 2024 and potentially replacing Republican Jim Justice as governor of West Virginia. Manchin's criticism of President Joe Biden's spending and political indecisiveness has sparked controversy, with expenditures on his Inflation Reduction Act being targeted by Republican-aligned spending groups.

Co-host Sunny Hostin adds that Biden's guilty plea to tax evasion proves "no one is above the law." The laptop, which came to light in 2020, remains a point of focus for House Republicans but Goldberg hopes it dissolves as an issue.

The Epoch Times: NY Sen. James Skoufis Sums Up 2023 Legislative Session
NY Sen. James Skoufis Sums Up 2023 Legislative Session
New York Democratic Sen. James Skoufis pushed several high-priority bills, including moving local elections from odd to even years to coincide with state and national elections and increasing the minimum number of residents required for new village formation from 500 to 2,000, through the state Senate and Assembly this year. If signed into law, the latter bill could directly impact the proposed village of Seven Springs just west of Kiryas Joel. Since Democrats hold supermajorities in both state chambers, they dominate the legislative agenda. Even though the state Senate's legislative session is over, Skoufis plans to warm up the teachers' union to support a ward-based system for school board elections in Orange County during the off-session time.

Bud Light Sales Take Steepest Hit yet Since Dylan Mulvaney Promotion
Sales of Bud Light experienced a drop of 26.8% for the week ending June 10, marking the worst sales decline since the brand launched a marketing campaign with transgender influencer Dylvan Mulvaney. There was also a decline in sales of Budweiser, Natural Light, and Michelob Ultra during this period. Despite this, Bud Light remains the number one beer in the US for the year, although it slid to no.2 behind Modelo Especial in May. The Mulvaney partnership garnered backlash from country singers and conservative influencers for promoting LGBTQ+ issues and pushing an ideological agenda at the expense of traditional American values.

The Corner: Pride Takes the National Parks
National parks are now celebrating "Pride month" by organizing LGBT-themed events. The Yosemite LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group partnered with a drag queen to host "Yosemite Pride Outside," and Acadia National Park organized a "queer bird walk" and a "pride story time" for kids. Even national parks in Washington will join the Seattle Pride Parade. These events show how far progressive ideology has permeated the federal government. They are a betrayal of the purpose of national parks, which should be testaments to the beauty of nature when it's unmolested by man.

The missing OceanGate submersible, Titan, did not undergo proper inspection by authorities, however, its operators view its innovative features outside of current class rating standards. Reports question the safety standards maintained as the search for the sub continues and a video surfaced of the CEO talking about his team selection for “inspirational” purposes. Former employee David Lochridge had raised concerns about the submersible's safety back in 2018, which resulted in his firing. The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed the vessel has only 40 hours left of oxygen.

Ben Wallace says he is out of the race for NATO’s top job
Ben Wallace, the British defense minister and a supporter of Ukraine, is unlikely to become NATO's next secretary-general as America wants Jens Stoltenberg to stay. Wallace is currently focusing on a "defence command paper" due in a few weeks, updating the previous paper from 2021. He identifies air defences, electronic warfare, and long-range artillery as crucial areas for investment; however, money is a significant issue. The Treasury approved half of Wallace's requested extra £10bn, which will mostly go towards submarines and nuclear warheads. The annual defense budget will only be a puny £1.1bn higher in 2024-25 than in 2021-22, and the army is not expected to grow.

The Epoch Times: Hong Kong's Freedom of the Press Eroded After Enactment of National Security Law: Report
Hong Kong's Freedom of the Press Eroded After Enactment of National Security Law: Report
Hong Kong's press freedom has continued to diminish, with three pro-Communist media outlets ranking as the most distrusted according to a new survey by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. Television Broadcasting Co. Ltd, the parent company of TVB News, as well as Bastille News and Dot Dot News were cited as the three media outlets with Communist Party affiliations. Meanwhile, the 2023 World Press Freedom Index has seen Hong Kong's ranking plummet from 80th to 140th. The ranking has suffered since the promulgation of the controversial National Security Law in 2020.

The law has had a notable impact on Hong Kong's news media and journalists, with direct criticisms from high-ranking government officials contributing to a significant decline in press freedom. The closure of news organizations such as Apple Daily, Stand News, Citizen News, and FactWire has added to the decline, with licensed free TV and radio channels now required to broadcast at least 30 minutes per week on sensitive topics such as "National Education," "National Identity," and "National Security Law." Despite these challenges, some former journalists have established news websites such as The Witness, HK Court News, and The Collective to monitor authority and pursue truth impartially. However, reports suggest that television remains a vital news source in Hong Kong, although commercial broadcasters have continued to lose money.

However, it is not clear that India would align with the West, and there are concerns about India's economic growth, education, and democracy. Britain’s inflation pain is mostly self-inflicted and getting worse
Britain's inflation rate remains high, with core inflation rising to 7.1%, despite the rest of the G7 countries experiencing a downward trend. The culprits are chiefly domestic policies, with high demand driven by fiscal efforts to stimulate the economy and overly cautious monetary policy. The lack of workers, post-Brexit migration conditions, and high prices caused by limited supply have exacerbated these issues. With rates set to rise, those with mortgages will face financial pressure, and the likely outcome for the government may be to raise taxes.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a yoga session at the United Nations with attendees from 180 countries, including Mayor Eric Adams and actor Richard Gere. Modi's visit to America represents a historic effort to elevate bilateral ties, which have long been hindered by America's support for India's top geopolitical rival, Pakistan, and India's reliance on Russia. New Delhi-Washington relations have improved in part due to China's growing belligerence against both countries. The event earned recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records for the most nationalities represented in a yoga session.

Gout Linked to Increased Risk of Dementia and Parkinson's: Study
People with gout have a higher risk of developing neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's and vascular dementia, according to a study by the University of Oxford. The study found that gout patients had smaller brain volumes and higher brain iron levels, which can be linked to poor blood and oxygen supply to the brain. Differences in gray matter were also identified. The study suggests that genetic and neuroanatomic factors may contribute to individuals' vulnerability to the risk. Additionally, a separate study found that gout medication allopurinol could lower the risk of neurodegenerative diseases.

Soup kitchen installs 24-hour Narcan stand to combat massive spike in opioid deaths
A soup kitchen in Michigan has installed a 24/7 Narcan stand with the help of a local nonprofit to combat opioid overdoses. The Narcan stand provides naxolone, a medication that reverses the effects of opioids, and is located next to a food provider that offers non-perishable items when the soup kitchen is closed. Michigan has seen an increase in opioid-related deaths, with 1,941 in 2017 compared to 183 in 2000. Recently, a Narcan vending machine in Brooklyn reported success, dispensing over 100 Narcan kits in its first week of operation.

In a separate incident, a team of YouTubers helped rescue an opioid overdose victim in a San Francisco apartment building. The cameraman administered CPR while two hosts called first responders, and firemen arrived on the scene and administered Narcan. Within a week, there were four emergency calls for overdoses at the same complex.

The survey also found concerns the decision has made it harder for doctors to manage pregnancy emergencies and has worsened their ability to attract new OBGYNs to the field. Meanwhile, 40% say they’ve felt constraints on their ability to provide care for miscarriages and other pregnancy-related medical emergencies. This issue has become a rallying cry for both conservative voters seeking to end abortion and liberals seeking to protect the right to an abortion.

Miramar, a South Florida town, is under quarantine to eradicate giant African land snails, which pose a significant risk to agriculture, infrastructure, and human health. The snails can grow up to eight inches and are one of the most damaging snails in the world, consuming at least 500 different types of plants. They are also carriers of a parasite called rat lungworm, which can cause meningitis in humans. It is illegal to move the snails or any associated materials within or from the defined quarantine area. The state's Department of Agriculture is attempting to eradicate the problem, using bait and a pesticide, which is safe for local plants. The importation of the giant African land snail into the country is illegal without a permit. The last sighting of these snails in Florida was in 2022 when more than 1,000 were seen north of Tampa.
