Fox News: Scientist sickened at Wuhan lab early in coronavirus pandemic was US-funded
A Chinese scientist partially funded by US grants who was working in Wuhan was one of three researchers who fell sick with a mystery illness early on in the pandemic, potentially supporting a theory that the coronavirus may have originated from a lab leak. Ben Hu had been researching coronaviruses at the lab when he became sick with a disease that mirrored the symptoms of COVID-19, with some of his projects being funded by the US government.
The US Agency for International Development and the National Institutes of Health had granted the Wuhan lab $1.4 million between 2014 and 2019, with some of this funding supporting Hu's research on viruses that could cause pandemics. The Wuhan lab has not commented on these revelations. The Biden administration may declassify more information on the pandemic's origins as early as this week, and Republican Senator Roger Marshall has called for greater scrutiny over US grants for research.

The error arose from using replacement costs rather than the book value of military equipment, she added. Although the accounting error has fueled some controversy surrounding US aid to Ukraine, leaders from both political parties have supported funding the country for its critical strategic value in the region.

Forbes: Texas Grid Nears Crisis Conditions Before Summer Even Arrives
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) issued a voluntary conservation notice on June 20 to Texans due to high demand on the state's electricity grid. The grid came close to being unable to meet demand during a forecasted heat wave, and the system had less than 5,000 MW of reserve available generation capacity. ERCOT officials cited an increase in forced generation outages early in the summer season and more thermal generation being offline for repairs and maintenance as reasons for the conservation notice. The state's wind fleet provided just 6% of total system load, while solar provided 14.2%. Texas needs more dispatchable thermal capacity, and though legislation has been passed to incentivize new capacity, it will take several years to integrate into the grid.
