Border Patrol agents rescued a migrant woman and her child from the fast-moving currents of the Rio Grande on June 14. The rescue took place near the Anzalduas Dam near Mission, Texas. The McAllen Border Patrol Station received a distress call before launching a CBP Air and Marine Operations aircrew to locate the migrants. Agents with specialized training and equipment saved the mother and son. Agents have rescued 196 migrants this fiscal year, announced Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria Chavez.

The Epoch Times: Hunter Biden 'Plea Deal' Is an Insult to Our Intelligence
Hunter Biden 'Plea Deal' Is an Insult to Our Intelligence
The Hunter Biden "plea deal" amounts to little more than a slap on the hand for tax evasion and buying a gun while a drug addict. The intention is to shove allegations of influence peddling down the memory hole and put certain people above the law. We are in the midst of a non-shooting civil war, and we are all in an intellectual war. The old expression “You snooze, you lose” applies, and then some.

The Epoch Times: Watchdog Calls for Clarification After RCMP Denies Investigation of PM Over SNC-Lavalin Affair
Watchdog Calls for Clarification After RCMP Denies Investigation of PM Over SNC-Lavalin Affair
The RCMP is being asked by a watchdog organization to explain why they initially claimed to be investigating PM Justin Trudeau and top officials over the SNC Lavalin case in May 2023, before later denying it. Democracy Watch filed an Access to Information Act request after they were sent correspondence by the RCMP claiming to investigate until January 2023; however, after Democracy Watch made the story public, the RCMP said that they were "not investigating allegations of political interference in the exercise of prosecutorial discretion to secure a remediation agreement for SNC-Lavalin." This contradictory information has raised suspicions, with Democracy Watch's co-founder Duff Conacher asking for the RCMP to disclose the 86 pages that were initially refused.

The SNC-Lavalin group was charged with fraud and corruption in 2015 and requested a special settlement for concerns over being barred from federal contracts for a decade if convicted of criminal charges. The Globe and Mail found that prime ministerial aides had leaned on the federal attorney general to avoid prosecution, leading to Jody Wilson-Raybould's resignation. Wilson-Raybould later testified that between September and December 2018, many people within the Trudeau government tried to interfere politically in the SNC-Lavalin case. The then-ethics commissioner determined that Trudeau violated the Conflict of Interest Act in August 2019. SNC-Lavalin subsequently pled guilty, and a watchdog group is calling out contradictory information from the RCMP over its investigation of Trudeau and top officials from the case.

The New American: Tlaib's Radical Bill Would Ban Landlords from Using Criminal Background Checks
Tlaib's Radical Bill Would Ban Landlords from Using Criminal Background Checks
Representative Rashida Tlaib, member of the far-left "Squad," has proposed two legislative bills that would give greater social latitude to criminals. One of the bills would prohibit landlords from using criminal background checks during their screening processes, while the other bill, the Safe Storage Saves Lives Act, would require gun dealers to sell a gun lock for every firearm purchase. The bills are unlikely to pass through the Republican-controlled House and have faced opposition from members of the Republican Study Committee and the National Rifle Association.

Breitbart: Govt Disinformation Unit Flagged Green MP over Alleged Covid Criticisms
Govt Disinformation Unit Flagged Green MP over Alleged Covid Criticisms
The British government's Counter Disinformation Unit logged statements from Green Party MP Caroline Lucas during the coronavirus crisis. They gathered reports on Lucas over comments criticising the lack of pandemic preparation and stating that coronavirus vaccines should be given to struggling countries before booster shots were given to Britons. Lucas has called for an investigation into the matter, stating that the right of citizens to share objective criticisms of government must be protected. Big Brother Watch announced a crowdfunding effort to back legal action against the government’s targeting of people engaging in political dissent.

The government’s Counter Disinformation Unit claimed it tracks narratives using publicly available information and never monitored the activity of any individual. In response to the government’s targeting of people engaging in political misinformation, the Big Brother Watch campaign group has called for the CDU to be urgently suspended and subject to a full investigation. During the coronavirus crisis, the British government was reportedly in talks with tech firms such as Google, Facebook, and Twitter, as well as with AI companies, to monitor and censor critics of the lockdown regime.

The Epoch Times: DeSantis Responds to Hunter Biden Case: 'Sweetheart Deal'
DeSantis Responds to Hunter Biden Case: 'Sweetheart Deal'
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis criticized Hunter Biden's plea agreement, claiming it shows a two-tiered standard of justice in the US. Hunter Biden confirmed he will plead guilty to federal tax offenses and avoid prosecution on a separate gun charge in a deal with the Department of Justice. This deal ends a long-running investigation into Joe Biden's second son, and requires him to plead guilty to tax and weapons violations rather than anything tied to his father or the Democrat party. Republicans claim that Hunter Biden profited on influence-peddling and bribery schemes while his father was vice president and the deal is politicized.

The Epoch Times: Progressive Leaders Encouraged to Buy Media Outlets for Boosting Influence Over Americans: Report
Progressive Leaders Encouraged to Buy Media Outlets for Boosting Influence Over Americans: Report
A report is urging progressive leaders in the US to buy or collaborate with media outlets and influence channels to counter the dominance of conservative media in the country. The report highlights the demise of left-wing outlets like BuzzFeed News and Vice Media as signs of change in the world of news, and calls for supporters of progressive media to invest in for-profit media companies and social media influencers. It also suggests collaborating with online creators and individual journalists to expand the reach of progressive ideologies.

While the report characterizes American media as being dominated by conservative forces, a study published at ResearchGate found that journalists from the US are mostly biased toward leftist ideologies. The report suggests that progressive supporters collaborate with profitable local TV networks to expand their reach and invest in for-profit and hybrid enterprises with large audiences to counter the right-wing shift of conservative news outlets. Sinclair Broadcast Group, which has an ‘overtly conservative tilt’ in news coverage, is also highlighted in the report, while progressives have attempted to create countermeasures against existing right-leaning local news outlets.

3 men convicted in US trial that scrutinized China's 'Operation Fox Hunt' repatriation campaign
Three men were convicted in a trial accusing China of pressuring American soil to bully expatriates into returning home through an operation called "Operation Fox Hunt". China has denied trying to force repatriations through intimidation and says the U.S. is maligning an effort to fight crime. This is the first trial of a spate of prosecutions scrutinizing China's Operation Fox Hunt in the nearly decade-old initiative that Beijing characterizes as a pursuit of fugitives from justice.

Rivian Adopts Tesla’s EV Charging Standards Amid Growing Electric Competition With Ford And GM
Electric automaker Rivian will adopt its chargers to match Tesla's charging network, giving its drivers access to Tesla's "supercharger" stations in the US and Canada starting in spring 2022. Rivian's R1T and R1S owners can use an adapter to fit Tesla's charging stations, while the future R1 and R2 vehicles will be compatible with Tesla's chargers starting in 2025. Is Greedflation Driving U.S. Consumer Price Increases? [Infographic]
US consumer prices persistently increase despite falling producer prices, raising questions about the role of corporate greed in the inflation. A new report by nonprofit Accountable.Us reveals that major consumer brands are benefiting from increased prices as their net profits increase year-over-year, using the increased income for shareholder payouts and dividends as well as buybacks and acquisitions. Meanwhile, rising interest rates due to the inflation are putting a strain on the economy, with fears of recession and layoffs. The Federal Open Market Committee has paused its rate hikes for the first time in 15 months but signalled that future increases may still be necessary.

Nike’s Wholesale Pivot: A Masterclass In Omnichannel Strategy
Nike has reestablished its partnerships with Designer Shoe Warehouse and Macy's, despite a previous pullback from these partnerships in 2021. However, this move is not a reflection of a flawed DTC theory or a desperate attempt to tackle sales slowdown, but instead an example of Nike's mastery in omnichannel retailing. By leveraging the pandemic, Nike has reset its wholesale sales base without the risk of comp sales comparisons and negotiated favorable terms due to high demand for its return. Nike's strategy serves as a lesson in how to use the changing dynamics of the retail landscape to one's advantage, proving that there's always a way to turn even the most challenging situations into an advantage.

Daily Wire: ‘Alexandra’s Law’ Will Deliver Justice To California’s Fentanyl Dealers And Victims’ Families
‘Alexandra’s Law’ Will Deliver Justice To California’s Fentanyl Dealers And Victims’ Families
California lawmakers have rejected four bills aimed at tackling the fentanyl crisis in the state, leading to the introduction of Assembly Constitutional Amendment (ACA) 12, or Alexandra’s Law, which would inform convicted fentanyl dealers that further offenses could result in a charge of voluntary manslaughter or murder. The measure has been created based on the “Watson Admonition” implemented in 2007, the foundational rule that if someone drinks and drives and kills someone, they can be charged with murder. If passed, the bill would read an advisement to drug dealers saying that illegal substances could be fatal, and should the dealer continue to administer illegal drugs that result in death, they could be charged with murder. The legislation was co-authored with Democratic colleagues in the State Senate, and despite bipartisan efforts – joining half a dozen other bills seeking to crack down on the epidemic – all failed to advance in the public safety committee.

The Epoch Times: The First Step in Running More
The First Step in Running More
To run more, slow down. Ease back from your usual effort level to where you have a good balance between your normal form and feeling like your perceived effort is lower than usual. Let the duration be the limiting factor. The best way to be at the proper gentle effort when you’re trying to run more is to start more slowly than you think is necessary. Aim for the feeling of “I could keep going at this pace for at least as long as I’ve been out, and if I had to pick it up for the next 5 minutes, I could easily handle that.” This excerpt is taken from “The Little Red Book of Running” by Scott Douglas.

Can a Homebuyer Who Waived a Home Inspection Sue?
A couple sold their first home at list price, with the highest offer waiving inspection, but two years later were threatened with a lawsuit by the buyers, who claimed they tried to hide plumbing issues. It is unclear if the seller furnished them with a home inspection or a repairing plumber’s inspection, what the problem was or if the cause of both sewer backups was unknown. The best course of action may be to ignore them and wait for a legal notice, communicate directly with them, or seek a legal opinion, as state laws vary.
