Breitbart: Turley on Hunter Biden Plea Deal: 'This Is Going to Look Like You Ticketed the Getaway Driver After a Bank Robbery'
Legal expert Jonathan Turley warns that Hunter Biden's plea deal reinforces the belief of a double standard within federal law enforcement, as he avoids jail time and serious charges. Turley states that the deal will be controversial and may look like the authorities only ticketed the getaway driver after a bank robbery. The president's son is pleading guilty to minor tax and gun charges, which will not satisfy many who view the influence peddling allegation as a serious form of corruption and potential crime.
Fox News: ESPN's Stephen A. Smith burns Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after Spotify exit
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, parted ways with Spotify after producing one podcast with 12 episodes. ESPN pundit Stephen A. Smith commented that he wasn't interested in the royal family. Smith played Bill Simmons' reaction to the exit and made an interesting comment about the couple. Simmons has a history of criticizing Harry.
Fox News: Hunter's plea deal flips Biden's past comments about investigation on their head: 'Great confidence'
Hunter Biden is set to plead guilty to two counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax and enter into a pretrial diversion agreement over a firearm charge. He faces a maximum penalty of two years in prison for the tax charges, and a maximum penalty of 10 years for the firearm charge. The guilty plea contradicts past claims by President Biden, who defended his son and declared that he had done nothing wrong.
The Right Scoop: BREAKING: DOJ gets speedy date set for Trump’s trial
Former President Trump's trial for obstruction and mishandling classified documents will tentatively begin on Aug. 14 in Florida, according to U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon's scheduling order. However, negotiations between the DOJ, Trump's lawyers, and Cannon may cause the date to shift.
National Review: The Corner: Trump’s Home Run
Trump's interview with Bret Baier was a success for him in terms of winning the GOP nomination. Although he had some rocky moments, overall he appeared confident and charismatic. His legal defense strategy seems to be getting elected president or getting pardoned by a Republican president, and he needs to convince enough people that his case is unfair to avoid a conviction.
Fox News: Mayorkas loses yet another top DHS official as deputy who helped 'co-lead' agency retires
Deputy Secretary John Tien is retiring from the Department of Homeland Security after serving for just under two years. Tien thanked DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas "for having the confidence in me to support my nomination to President Biden and even more so, to empower and enable me to ‘co-lead’ the Department with him." His retirement date is July 20.
Tien had previously served in the National Security Council in the Obama administration, and for the Bush administration as director for Iraq. He is a military veteran, served for 24 years, and had three combat tours to Iraq. His announcement comes amid a series of high-profile departures at the agency.
Breitbart: Hunter Biden Plea Deal Excludes Alleged Biden $10M 'Bribery' Scheme
Hunter Biden has agreed to plead guilty to federal tax and gun law violations, but the plea deal with United States Attorney David Weiss appears to exclude charges related to the alleged $10 million "bribery" scheme, which an FBI informant had documented. The scheme involved Hunter and President Joe Biden accepting $5 million each from a Ukrainian energy company executive. Attorney General Merrick Garland had previously stated that he would need to authorize any potential charges against Hunter Biden. Sen. Marsha Blackburn criticized the Justice Department for appearing to ignore the bribery scandal.
The Epoch Times: MPs Back Parliamentary Report Criticising Boris Johnson’s Conduct
Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been found guilty of “repeated contempts” of Parliament by a Privileges Committee report. MPs voted in favour of the report, which noted Johnson had misled Parliament regarding illegal parties during UK lockdowns. The committee said he was guilty of attempting to undermine democracy and “complicit in the campaign of abuse and attempted intimidation of the committee”. Johnson was recommended for a 90-day suspension and banning from Parliament passes were it not for his previous resignation. The former PM criticised the report as a “deranged conclusion” and of MPs lying. Opposition MPs criticised current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for missing the vote that backed the report.
The Epoch Times: Porcfest Is the Event That Cannot Be Canceled
Porcfest, the annual gathering of the Free State Project in New Hampshire, proceeded as planned amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, drawing a large crowd of attendees who care about individual liberty, low taxes, Second Amendment rights, personal freedoms, and privacy. The event features talks on politics, pharma, health, and policy, including a speech by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who speaks out against censorship and cancel culture. Kennedy's popularity and work on human rights make him antifragile and a reminder of America's core values of freedom and rights.
Breitbart: Joe and Jill Biden Frame Hunter Biden as a Victim After Charges
Hunter Biden's plea deal prompted a statement from President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden, who described their son as a victim who is rebuilding his life. However, Hunter Biden's history suggests otherwise, as he is a practicing lawyer and holds a Yale law degree, worked at the US Department of Commerce, became a lobbyist, was appointed to the board of directors of Amtrak, and allegedly did business with the Chinese Communist Party, corrupt entities in Ukraine and Russia, and across South America and Africa, leveraging his family's connections at the highest levels of government. He also launched a successful art career, selling paintings to anonymous buyers.
PJ Media: YouTube Goes to Bat for Biden, Removes Jordan Peterson Interview of RFK Jr.
YouTube has removed an interview between Jordan Peterson and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., in what is perceived to be a move to ensure Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s election. Kennedy tweeted, “should social media platforms censor presidential candidates?” He believes the tech giant has interfered with the democratic process, exercising its control over what information is heard and seen by millions. Peterson joined in the criticism, arguing that YouTube was “actively interfering with a presidential election campaign.” There has been growing concern about censorship on social media platforms that are perceived to favor the left-wing agenda.
Fox News: Fox News' Bret Baier, Martha MacCallum named moderators of first Republican debate
Fox News anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum will moderate the first Republican primary debate on August 23 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, ahead of the 2024 presidential election season. The debate will coincide with the Republican National Convention’s summer meeting held 11 months prior to next year’s convention, and former President Trump remains the polling frontrunner for the GOP nomination. Current challengers include Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, former Vice President Mike Pence, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
Red State: Heritage Foundation Sues Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg for Access to Trump Investigation Records
Conservative think tank Heritage Foundation has filed two lawsuits against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, pressing for records related to the investigation into former President Donald Trump. The legal action follows Bragg’s office’s failure to comply with two Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests related to his communication with the Department of Justice, the White House and related Democrat lawmakers regarding the pursuit of Trump. The second Heritage lawsuit alleges Bragg received free legal assistance from major law firms and demands that he release details about the legal help received. Meanwhile, the August 14, 2023 set trial date for Trump’s indictment on 37 counts related to classified document retention is causing controversy.
The Epoch Times: Trump Responds to Charges Against Hunter Biden
Former President Trump and other Republicans have criticized the criminal plea deal made by the Department of Justice with Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden. Biden will avoid prosecution for illegally possessing a firearm if he admits to charges involving tax filings. Trump accused the DOJ of giving Hunter Biden a free pass, while others dubbed the deal a “sweetheart deal.” Some prominent Republicans believe the agreement shows a two-tier system in the Justice Department where cases are decided based on who you’re related to rather than the merits of your case.
The Federalist Papers: Fox News Presses Trump on Former Admin Members Who've Turned on Him, Trump Hits Back Hard: "10 to 1"
Former President Donald Trump is facing opposition from his former hires, including Vice President Mike Pence, Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former National Security Advisor John Bolton, and former Attorney General Bill Barr. However, Trump argues that he surrounded himself with "fantastic" people and achieved phenomenal economic success, strong governance in the military, and the obliteration of ISIS. Trump's success is undeniable, and he challenges Baier's claim that he did not live up to the expectation of surrounding himself with the best and most serious people. This feud is nothing new as Trump was known for his "Drain the Swamp" campaign to drive out professional Washingtonians.
The Blaze: Sen. Fetterman recites BLM slogans in celebratory Juneteenth post, but is swiftly reminded of the innocent black jogger he chased down with a shotgun
Senator Fetterman tweeted about celebrating Juneteenth and reflecting on systemic racism in America. However, some Twitter users brought up his own past incident in which he pulled a shotgun on an innocent black jogger in 2013. Fetterman inferred the jogger was fleeing a shooting he had heard, but the jogger was not armed or involved in any crime. Fetterman admitted to chasing down the jogger and holding a loaded shotgun, which was deemed illegal by the Allegheny County District Attorney's office at the time. Fetterman later downplayed the incident and wiped mentions of BLM from his campaign site.

National Review: The Corner: We Should Be Proud of Hamtramck
Hamtramck City Council in Michigan, led by an all-male Muslim council, banned the rainbow flag from city property, drawing criticism from Democrats. The change in Hamtramck's population, once predominantly of Polish origin, but now heavily Muslim, highlights growing divisions among Democrats. While Democrats cheered in 2015 when Hamtramck elected the nation's first majority-Muslim city council, concerns about infighting within the Democratic base have since surfaced. The move reflects misunderstandings among progressives who don't comprehend how religious people approach politics as well as a particular opposition to the LGBT agenda from some Muslims. Muslims voted predominantly Democratic in recent years, partly as a reaction to the Republicans' Islamophobia and support of immigration restrictions, but the party's progressive stance on social policy may push them to trend right.
The American Mind: Solving the Global Housing Crisis
The global housing crisis, driven by ever-growing land prices and detrimental policies, particularly in the Anglosphere, represents the single biggest challenge to the future of the middle class. Rising costs have led to decreases in homeownership rates, with millennials being the most affected. Densification is often proposed as a solution, but enforced densification has not proven to be the best solution and can lead to rising prices and rents out of control, with the current regulations often failing to produce many houses. The political challenge is that forced densification plans backed by young and affluent progressives pose risks, as many middle- and working-class families prefer single-family houses on the periphery. The Green Gambit to oppose affordable suburban housing is outdated, and policy should encourage expansive and sustainable housing opportunities.
The Blaze: At least 4 dead in NYC e-bike repair shop blaze; FDNY recently cited location for multiple violations
An e-bike repair shop in lower Manhattan caught fire resulting in 4 deaths and several injuries. The fire was caused by lithium-ion batteries, which created an explosion-like blaze. The FDNY had issued summonses to the shop in August, with violators found guilty and fined; summonses were also issued in 2021. A total of 108 fires and 13 fatalities related to lithium-ion batteries have been logged this year, a significant increase from the previous year. Citizens are asked to call 311 if they see unsafe conditions related to e-bikes to help the FDNY in its enforcement and education efforts.

The Federalist Papers: China Finalizing Plans to Put Troops 100 Miles from US Mainland a Day After Meeting with Biden Admin: Report
China is in talks with Cuba over the establishment of a military training facility close to Florida's coast, according to reports. The move, part of China’s "Project 141" to expand military and logistical facilities around the world, will serve as a catalyst for China to build a permanent base for troops and undertake intelligence gathering activities. The sources quoted in the report said that US intelligence documents indicate the deal is in its final stages. The reports come just a day after Secretary of State Antony Blinken left Beijing following talks about the threat posed by China to the US and other countries in the region.
Foreign Policy: China Isn’t Buying Biden’s Balancing Act
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to China was met with a chilly reception and tense meetings between the superpowers. Beijing sees this visit as a calculated diplomatic snub, and tensions are only increasing with Washington hardening its approach to China, as it ramps up public and military support for Taiwan and implements trade restrictions and sanctions. While some experts see the trip as a minor diplomatic achievement, others question whether China will continue to engage in high-level talks with their U.S. counterparts, as military lines of communication remain closed.

The Epoch Times: Andrew Higgins: The Man Who Won World War II
Andrew Higgins was an inventor and entrepreneur who became renowned for his boat building and designing skills. After acquiring a large fleet of vessels, he began tinkering with the idea of a propeller-powered flat bottom boat, which resulted in the creation of the Eureka boat in 1926. As the military sought a craft to quickly land troops on shores, they tested Higgins' Eureka in 1938 and suggested making a modification to allow troops to disembark more quickly. Within a month, Higgins created the landing craft that met the military's requirements, later known as the famous Higgins Boat, which was crucial during the D-Day invasion in World War II.

Fox News: Europe pumps the breaks on transgender care for minors amid uproar in US
European medical professionals are pushing back on gender transition services for minors due to concerns over the reliability of supporting studies and the serious risks involved. In the U.S., national medical groups are advocating for the services, putting America at odds with European countries like the UK, Sweden, Finland, Norway, and France that allow puberty blockers and gender transition surgeries. More than a dozen Republican-led states have already acted to ban or limit the use of puberty blockers on minors.
The Epoch Times: Serious Health Concerns Over Cellphone Radiation: Is 5G Worse?
Experts are divided on the potential health hazards of 5G and wireless devices. While some studies suggest possible links between cellphone radiation and health issues such as infertility, neuropsychiatric problems, cancer, and inflammation, others have found no conclusive evidence. Concerns have arisen since 5G emits millimeter wave radiation, which remains relatively untested. While millimeter waves cannot deeply penetrate the body, and thus are considered safe by some scientists, they can be absorbed by the skin and trigger biological responses by altering cells’ electrical charges. The need to understand the impact on human health becomes increasingly important, especially with the extensive rollout of 5G antennas and their co-transmission of 2G, 3G, and 4G signals.

The Epoch Times: Study Infecting Patients With COVID-19 Finds 'Very Few Emissions' in Asymptomatic Cases
A new study published in The Lancet has found that infections from asymptomatic individuals produce relatively low COVID-19 emissions. Participants aged between 18-30 were intentionally infected with the virus and monitored during ensuing quarantine periods. Results showed that a small number of individuals produced a significant amount of the airborne virus, but these emissions were largely concentrated during the symptomatic period. Furthermore, emissions from asymptomatic individuals were found to be low, making predictions on virus spreaders difficult. The findings suggest that non-pharmaceutical interventions such as hand washing and surface cleaning in indoor settings are still important measures to reduce transmission risk.
