Former President Donald Trump defended his record of hiring personnel in an interview with Fox News, saying the majority of hires were good and acknowledging that some were not. He claimed that he did not know Washington when he took office and that he had put great people in, including Bill Barr and John Bolton. Trump disputed lists of those who he has criticized or who have criticized him, such as Mike Pence, Nikki Haley, Mark Esper, and Mick Mulvaney, saying he hired “10:1” fantastic people and that the ratio of those who praise him to those who criticize him is “20:1.”

The RCMP is not investigating allegations of political interference in the handling of criminal charges against SNC-Lavalin. In 2015, the company faced corruption charges and unsuccessfully attempted to negotiate a settlement. Reports in early 2019 suggested that prime ministerial aides had pressured the federal attorney general to strike a deal. The ethics watchdog later found that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had violated conflict-of-interest rules. The RCMP investigated but found insufficient evidence of criminality. SNC-Lavalin Construction eventually pleaded guilty to fraud over $5,000, paying a $280-million penalty and agreeing to a three-year probation order.

Instead of focusing on monetary reparations, it is suggested that promoting educational excellence and responsible parenting within the black community would be the best form of ‘reparations.’
