The Epoch Times: Suspected Gang Leaders Arrested for Smuggling Illegal Immigrants on Small Boats
The National Crime Agency has arrested three alleged Albanian organised crime group members that facilitated the illegal entry of migrants into the UK for a profit. The group reportedly frequented both small boats and HGV transfers, charging immigrants upwards of £2,500 per crossing. The smuggling network has ties to recent cases in which immigrants have been dropped off near Cobham, Surrey, and Thurrock, Essex, after travelling in an HGV from France.
The Small Boats Operational Command along with the Border Force has acted on this issue after migrants have regularly risked their lives crossing the English Channel. Since the initiative was signed, figures have shown a decrease in illegal crossings and returns to Albania have increased. The UK government's current policy regarding illegal immigrants involves accommodating them on barges and alternative sites to reduce the cost of housing. Critics of the policy including Mayor of London Sadiq Khan argue that it raises concerns over the safety, health, and wellbeing of those fleeing "appalling circumstances".
Daily Wire: Inside An Illegal Immigrant Hideout On The Southern Border
Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland of Terrell County, Texas, takes visitors on a tour of the county that covers 2,358 square miles. The county is along the Rio Grande and includes Sanderson, the county's one town, with its natural beauty and metal velociraptor statue. Many of the buildings in Sanderson are uninhabited and dilapidated. The ghost town, Dryden, population 13, is only 20 miles away. However, an abandoned building between the two towns still has inhabitants; numerous illegal immigrants stow their camo backpacks there as they hike the rugged terrain to the highway where they will be picked up.
Sheriff Cleveland, a 26-year veteran of the Border Patrol, explains the challenges of patrolling the Big Bend Sector. Border defense technology such as autonomous surveillance towers are utilized to detect humans and vehicles as far as 2.8 km away. Despite these, Cleveland stated that the Big Bend Sector could be locked down, and it needs more technology and manpower to double the size of the Sanderson Station Border Patrol unit from 50 to 100. Cleveland echoed the sentiment of others living along the border; it wouldn't be difficult to find the resources to secure the border if only our leaders could first find the will.

The Epoch Times: Call Public Inquiry First, Then Tories Will Suggest Who Can Lead It: Poilievre
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre demands an independent public inquiry into allegations of foreign interference, but only if Prime Minister Justin Trudeau makes the first move. Poilievre promises to propose a mandate and terms within 48 hours of the call. The Liberals want federal opposition parties to work together to determine its terms of reference, timeline, and the commissioner who will lead it.
The Economist: Should Britain change its abortion laws?
Abortion-rights activists in Britain are calling for the decriminalisation of abortion after a case involving a mother of three who was sentenced to 28 months in prison for taking abortifacients when she was 32-34 weeks pregnant. The baby was stillborn. The Abortion Act of 1967 was a compromise that required two doctors to authorise a termination. The act criminalises abortion and has meant that abortion law in Britain has been considered largely settled for over half a century. The march was sparked by a case that activists claim highlights a problem in the law itself. Imprisoning a woman for having an abortion is pointless, even cruel, and threatens to cause great harm to all involved, said Claire Pierson, a law professor who co-wrote “Reimagining Global Abortion Politics".
While several leading politicians have suggested that Britain will not change its laws, incoming Labour politicians may create legislation that accepts the prima facie lawfulness of abortion in certain circumstances. Though the 1967 and 1861 acts specify Britain’s abortion laws, in reality, Britain has a fairly liberal abortion culture. The latest case has created an opportunity for both pro and anti-abortion campaigners to push their agenda, but the situation highlights the need for clarity in Britain’s aboriton laws. The Abortion Act of 1967 needs to be revised and the regulations on sending abortifacients by post to be tightened as there are legitimate concerns.
The Epoch Times: Judge Sets Trial Date in Trump's Classified Documents Case
Former President Donald Trump is set to have a criminal jury trial starting on August 14, 2023, as per US District Judge Aileen Cannon's order. The parties are recognized as holders of a judicial right to speedy trials, entitling the trial to 180 days after the initial hearing. The court requires speedy trial reports to be filed every 21 days. Additional time for motion must include reasons that outweigh Trump's right to a speedy trial. Proposed witnesses, exhibits to be presented, and jury instructions must be submitted and discussed during the calendar call on August 8. Pre-trial and limine motions must be submitted by July 24, 2023.
Trump pleaded not guilty to charges of holding onto documents containing sensitive information and obstructing their investigation with his co-defendant Waltine Nauta who also pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors showed proof that Trump violated federal law by allowing unauthorized persons to see sensitive documents after his term in office and not giving all documents to the authorities. While Trump denies the charges, the special counsel handling the case plans to seek a speedy trial, and US District Judge Aileen Cannon set the date at August 14, 2023. US President Joe Biden denies allegations of influencing the charges against Trump, stating that the Department of Justice made the decision independently. Merrick Garland, US Attorney General, defends the special counsel handling the case.
Fox News: MSNBC president open to Trump town hall, angering liberals
MSNBC President Rashida Jones is open to hosting Donald Trump on air in a town hall format, stating that it would be a "conversation" if he requested to come on the network. She said MSNBC was having conversations with all of the candidates "about how to bring their point of view to the audience." Some took issue with the MSNBC president's statement in the aftermath of CNN's Trump town hall, which was widely criticized by CNN employees and Democrats.
CNN was criticized for hosting a Trump town hall, including media reporter Oliver Darcy and CNN's Christiane Amanpour, who called out now former boss Chris Licht over the Trump town hall during a speech at Columbia's Journalism School. Licht stepped down in early June in the aftermath of the town hall. Fox News Digital has reached out to MSNBC for comment.
Daily Wire: ‘We Will Not Rest’: Comer Vows Hunter’s Plea Deal Won’t Stop Biden Corruption Probe
Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to federal tax and gun charges, but the plea deal will not affect a House investigation into the alleged corruption and bribery schemes of him and his father, President Joe Biden. House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer stated that the Justice Department’s charges against Hunter show a “two-tiered system of justice” and that growing evidence uncovered by the committee shows the Bidens engaged in a pattern of corruption. The committee plans to continue its investigation and bring in key witnesses for depositions.
Newsbusters: Hunter Gets Indicted, MSNBC Attacks GOP, Hails 'Good News' For Joe
MSNBC hosts defend Hunter Biden's plea deal against Republicans' "conspiracy theories" about the Biden Crime Family. Joe Scarborough attacks Republicans for trying to stir up "one after another disproven" conspiracy theories against Hunter. Jonathan Lemire boasts that Hunter taking responsibility for the charges is "good news" for President Biden while claiming Republicans will continue to ignore the facts to claim a "double standard of justice." Despite criticism that Hunter's actions were at least "sketchy," Scarborough and Lemire dodge corruption charges, instead focusing on Trump's appointment of the prosecutor who came to this type of agreement and alleging Republicans will continue to push baseless conspiracy theories.
National Review: The Corner: Chris Christie Should Have a Chance to Debate
Chris Christie's combative debate style, honed through years of navigating New Jersey politics, is what the Republican Party needs right now. A refusal to engage in internal debate leaves the party ill-prepared for confrontation with an emboldened Democratic Party. Facing this danger, Republicans must present a robust counter-argument that has been tested and refined through vigorous debate. It's about ensuring the wellness and vitality of the party's discourse.
Red State: Furious Reactions to the Hunter Biden Plea Deal Come in, as James Comer, Jonathan Turley, and Others Push Back
Hunter Biden pleads guilty to two misdemeanor charges for not filing taxes and lying on a federal form to purchase a gun. Many are outraged, saying that after five years of investigation, this is a slap on the wrist. Hunter Biden's associates are facing years in prison for similar charges, raising questions about special treatment. Rep. James Comer alleges that the Bidens engaged in corruption and influence peddling, and others point to evidence of it in the laptop emails and photos. The plea deal is seen by critics as a way to avoid more serious allegations facing Hunter Biden and his family.

Front Page Magazine: Hunter Biden Gets Probation for $1M in Tax Evasion, Gun Charge
Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has reached a deal with federal prosecutors to plead guilty to misdemeanor tax charges and serve two years probation, after a five-year investigation into his failure to pay about $1 million in federal taxes and possession of illegal drugs. The charge of possession of a firearm while being a user of illegal drugs, which is a felony, will be dismissed if he completes probation. Federal prosecutors had demanded 20 years in prison for "Chrisley Knows Best" star Todd Chrisley for tax evasion, while the average jail time for tax evasion is 3-5 years. ( )

The Epoch Times: Anheuser-Busch Exec Has Candid Response to Bud Light Backlash From Customers
Bud Light maker Anheuser-Busch faced a boycott following a social media campaign which included the image of a transgender activist on a beer can. The campaign prompted a backlash which resulted in a drop in sales from the week the image was posted. Marcondes, the beer company's chief marketing officer, has now said the backlash was a wake-up call which will require marketers to be more humble. Although Bud Light suffered a significant setback, Marcondes claimed the beer is set to make a comeback and that the brewer will be taking steps to appreciate and celebrate every consumer that loves our brands.
Sales of Bud Light have fallen to second place behind Modelo Especial, according to beer industry data. Anhesuer-Busch was ordered to divest from Modelo in 2013, with the brand being handed over to Constellation Brands. Following the recent campaign backlash, Bud Light sales fell 24.4%, while Modelo saw a 12.2% rise over the course of roughly four weeks ending in early June. The CEO of Anheuser-Busch U.S. released a statement, without reference to the campaign, reiterating the beer company's commitment to its "Brewing Great Beer" ethos.

National Review: China Plans to Establish a Military Training Facility in Cuba: Report
China and Cuba are in talks to establish a joint military-training facility on the island. The negotiations are at an advanced stage, and a base on Cuba’s northern coast could see Chinese troops stationed within 100 miles of Florida. The news comes after Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s failed attempt to reestablish military-to-military communication with China. US officials have not commented on the prospect of Chinese troops on America’s doorstep, but the White House has delayed imposing punitive economic measures on China and played down the communist country’s surveillance efforts against the US. A new military base on Cuba, combined with existing electronic eavesdropping bases, leaves the administration in an awkward position.

Despite warnings from Amnesty International that refugees are subject to mortal danger, Lebanon has deported dozens of Syrians back to the war-torn country that they fled from, breaking international law and violating conventions that Lebanon has signed. The province is seeking dismissal of the judge’s original decision while the public sector workers want the appeal to be dismissed.
Forbes: Biden’s Top-Down Economy, Powered By Executive Action
President Joe Biden is pursuing ambitious extensions of Washington's top-down power, including climate change regulations, infrastructure laws, and strict government funding requirements for companies. These requirements include providing child care services, committing to green energy sourcing, and agreeing to profit-sharing with the federal government. Biden's policies, which include "Made in America" covenants and stricter definitions of "prevailing" wages for mandatory union labor, threaten to undermine prosperity and abundance as the ribbon-cuttings fade away. Additionally, the administration is targeting credit card late fees, bank overdraft fees, hotel and airline charges, and prescription drug prices, deeming them "junk fees" and constructing new regulatory and guidance schemes to "fix" them, which could have its most detrimental impact on the poor.
The Epoch Times: RBA Says Jobs Market Too Tight to Control Inflation
Australia's job market is too strong, with an unemployment rate below 4%, making it difficult for the Reserve Bank to curb inflation and maintain its 2-3% target. The RBA's deputy governor said the country's employment level is almost 8% above its pre-pandemic level and warned that the unemployment rate must rise to around 4.5% to bring the economy closer to a sustainable balance point. The RBA has become worried about inflation expectations that would keep it higher for longer, and is willing to tolerate a longer time frame to bring inflation back to target.

However, commentator Cockburn believes Macron's conduct is exemplary and a refreshing contrast to the recent American presidents who abstained from alcohol. He suggests that Macron's behavior is a sign that he is a normal human being, rather than a distant politician.
