PJ Media: White House Keeps Pushing Debunked Claim on Assault Weapons Ban
Democrats continue pushing the false claim that the 1994 assault weapons ban reduced gun violence in America, despite evidence proving the opposite. Even President Biden and his press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, continue to repeat this lie, ignoring Department of Justice and National Institute of Justice studies showing that the ban had no impact on gun-related crime. The ban failed to reduce violence because "assault weapons" are not typically used by common criminals. Democrats' insistence on using this talking point to justify their latest gun control proposals is unfounded.
University of Pennsylvania professor Christopher Koper, who authored a National Institute of Justice report, explained that it's premature to make any definitive assessments on the assault weapons ban's impact on gun violence. However, it's clear that the ban's effects on gun violence are likely to be small, at best and perhaps too small for reliable measurement. Democrats' refusal to acknowledge that the assault weapons ban failed to reduce gun crime is troubling, particularly because it's been known since 2004, when the ban was allowed to sunset. Criminals don't commonly use "assault weapons," and Democrats need to focus on more effective ways to reduce gun violence.
National Review: The Corner: Canada’s Continuing Illiberal Turn
Fox News may be banned from Canadian television due to a complaint by a group advocating for Two Spirit, trans, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming people. The group claims that anti-LGBTI sentiment runs deep within the network, extending beyond Tucker Carlson's show. The move to censor media is a concerning erosion of democratic norms .
Breitbart: Biden, DeSantis Cross Paths in Dueling Silicon Valley Fundraisers
Biden and DeSantis both visited Silicon Valley for fundraising events for their respective presidential campaigns, with DeSantis attending his own events just across the freeway from Biden's evening reception. DeSantis has a rivalry with California Governor Gavin Newsom, and though he trails Trump in Republican primary polls, many donors see him as the only candidate capable of defeating Biden.
Washington Free Beacon: Judge Sets Trial Date for Trump Classified Documents Case
Former President Donald Trump faces an initial trial date of August 14 in Florida over federal charges of willful retention of classified government records and obstruction of justice. However, legal experts suggest the trial could be anything but swift, depending on the complexities of handling highly classified evidence and Trump's legal team's challenges to pre-trial motions. A US judge has ordered Trump's defense lawyers not to release evidence in the classified documents case to the public, and also imposed strict conditions on his access to the materials.
PJ Media: A Trial Date Is Set in Trump Document Case, so Let's Look Back at the Raid That Started It All
Former President Donald Trump faces an unprecedented court case in Fort Pierce, Florida on August 14th. The Department of Justice has asked for the case to proceed quickly under speed trial provision of law. This has raised concerns over security and legality, particularly as charges relate to espionage and theft of classified materials from Mar-a-Lago, which many believe is unconstitutional.
Donald Trump gave a speech at his Bedminster, NJ golf course that CNN refused to air. The speech attacked Joe Biden's Department of Justice (DOJ) for sending gunned-up FBI agents to tear apart his home, break his safe, and snatch his medical records in an overly-broad and unconstitutional search, as well as charge him with espionage and theft of classified documents. The case was formulated in Washington, D.C. and brought to Florida magistrate Bruce Reinhart who signed off on an overly-broad warrant that allowed officers to rifle through Trump's tax records, news clippings, medical records, and Melania's undergarments while bringing an armed FBI SWAT team to seize the rest. Charges relate to documents seized during the raid rather than the warrant's original reason and have been criticized for being political in nature.

Breitbart: Analysis: Republicans Cut Reliance on Corporate Donors as Populist Agenda Aligns Them with Small-Dollar Donors
Republicans are turning to small-dollar donors and distancing themselves from corporate donors as they push for a nationalist-populist legislative agenda. This shift has been happening since 2015, when then-Senator Jeff Sessions fought for a shift towards the interests of small businesses, American workers, and military families. Since then, small-dollar donors have become more common among Republicans, specifically those running for office with populist viewpoints. Legislation is also being affected by this shift, with many Republicans signing onto bills to protect American communities from big corporations and foreign entities. The GOP’s populist shift has been most prominently seen in the issue of immigration, where Republicans are advocating for strong measures against mass migration and illegal immigration.
Forbes: Trump’s Classified Docs Trial Set For August 14
Former President Donald Trump is set to face a jury trial beginning on August 14th over 37 federal charges, including violations of the Espionage Act, making false statements, and conspiracy regarding his handling of classified material after leaving office. The trial will take place in a South Florida federal court, which typically requires a trial or conviction within 70 days due to its speedy trial clock. Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges last week and has suggested he did not have time to separate classified documents from personal belongings.
The Right Scoop: Ben Shapiro and others react to Hunter Biden’s plea deal with no jail time
Hunter Biden has been charged with criminal offenses after a five-year investigation but was given a plea deal with no jail time. Critics say this is typical of the justice system, where Democrats get a slap on the wrist but Republicans face full prosecution. This has led to criticism from Ben Shapiro, Yossi Gestetner, Marina Medvin, Guy Benson, and John Hayward, who argue that this decision is "fishy" and that the Bidens engaged in a pattern of corruption, influence peddling, and bribery. The charges are related to $1.2 million in unpaid taxes and signing a federal gun form saying he wasn't a drug addict when he was one. This story falls under the hashtag.
The Blaze: Federal prosecutors give Hunter Biden sweetheart deal for tax, gun crimes that will keep him out of jail
Hunter Biden has reached a deal with prosecutors after being charged with tax and gun crimes. He has agreed to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges of failure to pay in 2017 and 2018 and has been accused of not paying taxes on a liability of about $1.2 million. Prosecutors have agreed to recommend only probabtion and to pay the taxes he owes. Meanwhile, he also admitted to illegally possessing a gun.
National Review: Judge Sets Preliminary Trial Date in Trump Classified-Documents Case
Former President Donald Trump will face trial on 37 criminal counts brought against him by special counsel Jack Smith beginning August 14, according to Judge Aileen Cannon. The trial will last for two weeks and take place in Fort Pierce, Florida, although it is highly likely the date will be pushed back. Trump's attorneys and the Department of Justice must first negotiate particulars and two of Trump's lawyers are currently seeking expedited security clearance.

The original Energy Security Bill briefly banned new coal mines until it was amended by peers in the UK's House of Lords. The original amendment was added following the news that planning permission had been granted for the UK’s first new coal mine in 30 years in Cumbria. The Energy Bill is a key part of the UK’s plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050.
