The Economist: Sir Keir Starmer’s magic lamp
Sir Keir Starmer’s magic lamp
Luck plays a big role in British politics and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer seems to have found a magic lamp, benefiting from a bout of economic pain that particularly hurts crucial marginal voters. Polls give Labour a 20-point lead, but luck may not help them govern if they win the 2024 general election. Debt is over 100% of GDP, growth prospects are lacking and public services are failing, making it a difficult time to run the country.

Former Biden rival warns of 'softness' in president's 'electability' in 2024 race
Julian Castro warns of a "softness" in President Biden's "electability" for the 2024 election due to those who believe he hasn't followed through on campaign promises. Biden faces two Democratic primary challengers for 2024, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Marianne Williamson, but the DNC has announced there will be no primary debates this cycle. Democratic House members have dismissed the idea of Biden debating his opponents, calling them "fringe candidates," while Williamson has written an op-ed criticizing "candidate suppression" by the party.

The Biden Admin Spent 2 Years Trying to Get FBI to Go After Trump Over J6
Washington Post reports that senior Justice Department and FBI officials initially rejected proposals to investigate pre-Jan. 6 actions by Trump and allies. Biden DOJ waited months for Senate confirmation of senior leaders before charging militia members with seditious conspiracy. The objective was always to go after Trump and political opposition.

If At First You Don’t Succeed
Freshman Rep. Anna Paulina Luna aims to compel the House to censure Rep. Adam Schiff, who most Republicans believe lied about former President Donald Trump’s involvement with Russia during the impeachment trial. Luna originally planned to expel Schiff but settled on censure, a formal mode of discipline. Schiff escaped the initial censure resolution, but Luna tweaked her plan, removing the $16 million fine. Schiff may benefit from being censured as he runs in the race to succeed Sen. Dianne Feinstein. This week, the House will likely vote on the new censure resolution.

Bill Barr urges GOP to 'get serious' in fight against early voting beyond a 'reasonable period of time'
Former Attorney General Bill Barr advised Republicans to embrace state voting rules and fight within those rules to win, while opposing policies that go against the "essence of a democratic vote." Barr cautioned against mass voting by mail and extended voting timeframes. A roundtable discussion on "Sunday Night in America" highlighted the reported shift in traditionally Democratic-leaning demographics towards the GOP, with education being a likely catalyst. The Republican Party struggles to attract young women voters, particularly single women, and needs to improve its messaging to avoid being portrayed as extremists.

The Epoch Times: DA Alvin Bragg Sued After Refusing to Release Trump Case Records
DA Alvin Bragg Sued After Refusing to Release Trump Case Records
The Heritage Foundation sued Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for allegedly coordinating with Rep. Daniel Goldman (D-N.Y.), the White House, and the DOJ about the prosecution targeting former President Donald Trump. The think tank filed two Freedom of Information Law lawsuits against Bragg. According to Heritage, it suspects that Bragg was "coordinating, or otherwise communicating" with opponents of Trump and that there is reason to believe he is a "prolific communicator." They are asking the court to release requested documents and declare that Bragg turnover the requested documents.

Former President Donald Trump’s lawyers have moved to have the Manhattan case against Trump transferred to federal court or for New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan to recuse himself. Lawyers for the defendant filed a motion asking for the case to be transferred to the federal court, saying the crimes took place while Trump was in office. Merchan has set a trial date of March 25, 2024, in the midst of the GOP 2024 primary campaign, and Trump appeared at court in April 2023 where he pleaded not guilty to the 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide payments made during the 2016 campaign. The charges relate to payments made by Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, who was reimbursed $130,000 for payments to Stormy Daniels to prevent her from making any public claims she had made about the former president.

Massachusetts DA’s Office Suspends Allah for Antisemitism
True-See Allah, the former director of Community Engagement/Strategic Partnerships Unit of Suffolk County district attorney’s office in Massachusetts, has been suspended after making antisemitic remarks during an interview in 2016. Allah, who appeared on a group’s radio show, which promotes the Nation of Islam, an anti-Semitic organization, described a Jewish man as having "short arms and deep pockets”, a hateful stereotype; and there have been more such incidents. Massachusetts officials neglected these for years and continued to promote him based on his identity. If Allah had been a white supremacist, he would have been sacked.

Alleged Ban on Pride Flags in a Michigan City Has Press in Conflict, Leads Them to Commit ‘Islamophobia’
The media is struggling to navigate the conflicting issues of LGBT?? acceptance and Muslim sensitivity as a town in Michigan reportedly bans Pride Flags on public property. The ban is not solely targeted at LGBT?? symbols and restricts all non-national socio-political banners. The town of Hamtramck is notable for being operated by elected Muslims, causing the media to hesitate in their condemnation of the decision and seek out proxies to deliver criticism. While some locals have called the ban an "attack" on the LGBT?? community, the press is struggling to balance their past support for Muslims with their newfound support for LGBT?? issues, resulting in a reporting paradox.

The American Mind: Woke Up

Corporate philanthropy has shifted from traditional methods of giving to more political and activist ones. Companies now engage in a form of philanthropy called "strategic corporate philanthropy," that allows them to leverage business assets and expertise to engage in politics, lobbying, and for-profit philanthropic schemes while avoiding IRS criticism and shielding their actions from shareholders and the public. They donate to and support causes such as Black Lives Matter and other radical left-wing nonprofits, leading to a waste of resources that should be used to create shareholder value. The unfortunate reality is that corporations have become agents of radicals and willing participants in the demise of the systems that made them prosperous.

The Corner: Companies Just Can’t Resist Juneteenth Marketing
Companies are profiting from Juneteenth, America’s newest federal holiday celebrating the end of slavery, but their attempts at social justice may be crass. Products like “It’s the freedom for me” cozies and Juneteenth Mix & Mingle Bingo (with a square for “loves to watch sports on television”) may fall short of worthy ways to commemorate the abolition of slavery. Walmart’s Juneteenth ice cream cheesecake- and red-velvet-flavored display was called “tone deaf”. Corporations are struggling to navigate the commercialization of Juneteenth amidst heightened racial tensions, leaving it unclear whether the holiday will be completely commercialized.

Blinken faces online backlash for saying US opposes 'Taiwan independence' from China: 'Bought and paid for'
The U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, confirmed that the U.S. does not support Taiwanese independence from China, but remains committed to peaceful resolution of cross-strait differences, and the U.S.'s responsibilities under the Taiwan Relations Act, including Taiwan's defence. Criticism and backlash followed the press conference on Twitter, with some saying Blinken's comments show the weakness of the U.S. administration, and raise questions about Biden's relationship with China. Tensions between China and Taiwan have increased in recent months, with China crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait, close encounters between Chinese and American military aircraft, and China raising the possibility of annexing Taiwan by force.

Russia Emerges as a Victor in the Endless, Vital Great Game
Russia has finally secured a logistics link to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean through a transportation network involving riverine traffic, roads, railways, and sea links. The North-South Transport Corridor connects St. Petersburg to India's Arabian Sea via Russia, Iran, and Azerbaijan. It is the culmination of years of work and political alliances between Russia and Iran. The corridor will help Russia's trade as a maritime power in the Indian Ocean and bypass the U.S. and NATO attempts to contain Russia strategically into northern and Arctic ports. The new strategic architecture of Eurasia will create a complicating dynamic for the West in the new strategic rivalry between Russia and China .

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy responded to Republican criticism of the US bolstering Ukraine's military against Russia. He challenged presidential candidate Ron DeSantis’s description of the Ukraine-Russia conflict as a “territorial dispute” and Donald Trump’s determination to “end the conflict and sue for peace.” Zelenskyy highlights that to fail Ukraine now would signify a willing “move on to the Baltics or Poland or some other NATO country,” urging support from the United States. In contrast, Trump and DeSantis are seeking a peaceful “cessation of hostilities”.

A Quebec city councillor and two local community groups have been promoting the Qiaobao mobile app to the local Chinese community. The app, which collects users' private information and transfers it to the Chinese authorities, is operated by a subsidiary of China News Service, the second-largest state-run news agency in China. The app's user agreement stipulates compliance with China's laws and regulations, including its "religious policy" and socialist system, and requires users not to publish information that violates these laws. It also sets out some regulations on the information that users can publish, including those that appear broad and ambiguous. More Than 40 Companies Pledge to Hire and Train Over 250,000 Refugees
More than 250,000 refugees will be given jobs or training to aid their economic integration in Europe by 41 companies including Amazon, Adecco, Hilton, and Microsoft, following the announcement of the “most significant set of business commitments ever made” to help refugees. The commitments were announced at the Paris-hosted Tent European Business Summit, organised by the Tent Partnership for Refugees, a non-profit founded by Chobani CEO Hamdi Ulukaya. The Epoch Times: IMF Pushes Global Central Bank Digital Currency Platform as Cashless Trend Builds Steam
IMF Pushes Global Central Bank Digital Currency Platform as Cashless Trend Builds Steam
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is developing a global platform for central bank controlled digital currencies (CBDCs) to interoperate, in order to prevent fragmentation and make transactions more efficient. The IMF wants central banks to adopt a global regulatory framework to promote digital currency acceptance. It believes a lack of a global platform would weaken the case of CBDC use and lead to cryptocurrencies replacing the currencies. CBDCs are beneficial for promoting financial inclusion and cheaper remittances. Around 114 central banks are exploring issuing national CBDCs, with about 10 having already deployed them.

While CBDC adoption in the US has slowly gained traction, the troubled banking sector during the COVID-19 pandemic could be exploited to introduce such a currency. In opposition to this, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. warns that CBDCs could heighten financial surveillance and threaten freedoms. Safeguarding financial privacy is a top concern for the Federal Reserve, as a CBDC would be an impediment to privacy and pose risks to core freedoms. A recent analysis in the Cato Institute highlights that CBDCs pose a foundational risk to America’s economic systems, while offering limited benefits. CBDCs do not stand up to scrutiny when it comes to potential benefits in financial inclusion, faster payments, preservation of the dollar’s status or enabling monetary and fiscal policy.

The Blaze: Horowitz: Why is Governor Brian Kemp promoting the net-zero electric car agenda?
Horowitz: Why is Governor Brian Kemp promoting the net-zero electric car agenda?
GOP governors are celebrating EV manufacturing plans and promoting its "job creation" effects through government regulation, subsidies, and monopolization of the public square. However, these "investments" are leaving Georgia without affordable and reliable cars, paying for the rope to hang its citizens. This entire project would never get off the ground without massive federal regulations and subsidies backing it up. It is rooted in a controlled demolition of the economy, lining the pockets of China with printed money that is bankrupting the country with debt, inflation, and insolvency.

GOP governors and congressmen should focus on the long-term solvency by sabotaging the green energy agenda, refusing to cooperate with any wind, solar, EV, or carbon capture projects. Republicans must defund the Green New Deal inside budget bills and there needs to be a knock-down, drag-out fight over the EPA's proposed "vehicle tailpipe rule" that will phase out all workable cars later this decade. The officials are subsidizing the process of producing an unsustainably expensive product, with an 86% rise in the cost of minerals since January 2020. Governor Kemp and other GOP governors hold the keys to the success or failure of Agenda 2030.
