Fox News: Philippine coast guard rescue 120 people from flaming ferry
Philippine coast guard rescue 120 people from flaming ferry
A ferry carrying 65 passengers and 55 crew caught fire while traveling from Siquijor to Bohol island in the Philippines. All 120 passengers were rescued by the coast guard members aboard another vessel, and the fire was eventually extinguished. Such incidents are not uncommon in the country, which has thousands of islands and few regulations around maritime safety.

The Mayon Volcano, the Philippines' most active volcano, continues to erupt and has caused the evacuation of 18,000 people from the Albay province. The country also recently experienced a 6.2 magnitude offshore earthquake, but no casualties were reported. The Philippines is located on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," an arc of seismic faults around the ocean, and experiences regular earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

Forbes: Premium Leisure Won’t Replace All Lost Corporate Business Travelers
Premium Leisure Won’t Replace All Lost Corporate Business Travelers
The airline industry has been discussing new types of travelers to replace lost corporate business flyers, including blended travelers and premium leisure travelers. However, while premium leisure travelers are valuable, they are not a 1-1 replacement for lost corporate travelers due to price sensitivity, differences in travel frequency, and the fact that corporate travelers pay with company money while premium leisure travelers pay with their own money. The hospitality industry may benefit more than the airlines from these new travelers, and airlines will need to adapt their revenue management forecasts and processes to account for changes in demand.

Red State: Grand Slam: LA Dodgers Honor Drag Nuns, Get Handed Worst Shutout Loss in 125 Years
Grand Slam: LA Dodgers Honor Drag Nuns, Get Handed Worst Shutout Loss in 125 Years
The Los Angeles Dodgers' decision to honor anti-Catholic drag nuns, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, led to opposition campaigns, prayer gatherings, and boycotting. The stadium was shut down by religious protesters ahead of the game. The Dodgers lost both games against the San Francisco Giants, including a 15-point shutout, leading some to blame the team's curse due to the drag nun antics.

In 1995, the Giants owner apologized for having the group on the field at a pre-game ceremony raising AIDS awareness. The inclusion of individuals dressed as Catholic nuns and the pope was seen as anti-Catholicism. The Giants have learned their lesson, whereas the Dodgers' celebrations led to empty stadiums and losses against their major rivals.
