South Australia's government plans to amend residential tenancy laws to allow renters to keep pets without unreasonably denied requests. Renters will be required to follow any reasonable conditions set out by landlords, such as keeping the pet outside if it's not normally kept indoors and getting carpets cleaned after the lease's end. While 68% of South Australians own pets, less than 20% of rental properties advertise being pet-friendly. The proposed changes are similar to those introduced in other states, including Queensland, which allow landlords to refuse a request only on justifiable grounds.
