After suffering from the illness and receiving dialysis for two years, Calixto was hospitalized and a transplant was thought to be necessary for his long-term survival. There was a 50% chance that the father and son would be compatible for donation, and they were. The transplant took place on March 29, and both father and son are now recovering well.
